If it is MIller, can someone tell me why I should be excited? I feel like when I first saw his name and looked him up I was positive but now that I look at his tenure at Cindy and overall record, I am NOT pumped at all. Am I missing something?

Wes Miller took UNC Greensboro, where he was before Cincinnati, to the NCAA in 2018 and 2021. Also, he averaged over 20 games a season for five years at Cincinnati in a really tough league. His worst season in the last 10 years has been 18 wins, so I think he would be a great hire

Outside of where he graduated from, he is a strong hire. I have a hard time with another Chapel Hill hire but can get over it if he wins big and isn’t a dick like most of their graduates. Is he our first permanent coaching hire with division 1 coaching experience? I can’t think of another as hard as that is to believe.

Hal Wissel had previous D1 experience at Lafayette (1967-71) and Fordham (1971-76).

He also got threw into things probably before he was ready at UNCG. The current coach retired mid season and he took over. I think he was learning on the job those first few years.

If you throw out those early years, he looks pretty darn good records wise.

Also, when he took over at cincy, they were under sone scrutiny from the previous coaches’ shenanigans that probably was a distraction. Plus, when he took that job, it was cincy in the AAC, snd then they are in the big 12.

I could care less about his ties to UNCCH. I get that he had success at UNCG, but the lack of NCAA bids at Cincy is concerning. Different league, but just falls a little flat to me. Granted, I want to hear him talk see what type of talent he can bring and see the style of play before making judgements.

He is reportedly a defense minded coach. The bearcat poster says he needs an assistant to coach offense. Those are the things that concern me.

I think our fanbase wants a team that is fun to watch - I think we want to see a team full of talented scorers unleashed.

He got fired this year after going 9-9 in the conference below. Nearly 1/3 of the Big 12 finished ranked in the top 20. We just went 9-9 in our conference and people here are questioning if this is an upgrade. Besides Keatts I don’t know who we could realistically hope to get that would be a better fit than Miller.

Yeah this is a little concerning. Hopefully if it is Miller he will shake up his staff and bring in an offensive minded assistant. But after watching our defense this season I really wouldn’t mind having a good defense. I don’t think we ever really had a great defense with Sanchez and definitely not Fearne. We just slowed the game down to limit our opponents possessions.

Davidson, Appy, Elon, and GaSo left the Southern Conference in 2014, I believe. Appears UNCG started trending up after that. Regardless, if he’s the choice, I hope he succeeds.

I’m also concerned about the defensive focus, but if it’s good defense that allows us to score in transition, I’m for it.

The last 8 years we were a defensive team that played shit defense. We just made it look like it score wise by having a god awful pace of play. A good defense should lead to some easy buckets on the other end.

It also doesn’t take much of a better offense to be more fun than what we’ve had either.

We have very low bars on both sides of the ball. It won’t take that much for it to feel more exciting than it has been.
