No. The A10 is a better basketball conference
I agree it is. But I the name brands arenât that much different from American and I wonder if the city of Charlotte would bring more intangibles. In this specific case, the salary bump makes it a moot point.
My thoughts also. Some of the Coaches we are considering I would imagine are still in play in the tournament. If it is Miller then a lot going on behind the scenes for his staff that also might be in the tournament . If Miller should know by Sunday after the brackets are whittled down.
I suspect it would be a salary decline here. Heâs making $1.25 million more annually than Fearne made here
The delay could be that salary negotiations are going on. If Miller, although he would take a cut in pay, it is a chance for Him to come in and turn us around and be in the running for the Carolina job when it opens since he is a past player and alum
I mean I like to dig into conspiracy stories from time to time. although in this case considering the AD hire and the rumored coaching hire I would sooner guess it would be less about keeping us down and more about turning us into into some kind of training pipeline for the mothership at the moment. but thatâs if you wanted to believe.

Again, not sure if this is legit
That job might be coming open faster then you think, UNC Chapel Hill
wish that to be true, but I also wish they would quit teasing us with these posts until they are legit
First, want to acknowledge that I really do appreciate all Hunter does for Niner sports.
That said, in this 34:30 podcast:
- Hunter mentioned Matt Brownâs recent Extra Points piece about 2024-25 CBB operating budgets and while rattling off info for several America schools, said numbers include NIL when, in fact, they do not. Brown even highlighted the following in his piece:
It does not include athlete revenue share payments.
-
In one of Jeremyâs tangents, said Clemson doesnât like to âshell outâ NIL. Not true. Plenty of money being doled out in Death Valley. Issue has been the football transfer portal, though Dabo Swinney has warmed up to it somewhat
-
Said Bobby Lutz went to NCAAT year after year. Actually 5 times over 12 seasons and none during final 5 years. (Of course, after a 2 decade+ NCAAT drought, âonce in a blue moonâ -basically 3 years - suonds great now!)
-
Said Niners vs ECU game on 2-3-2024 was first Halton sellout in 20 years. Actually previous one occured on 2-2-2013 vs UMass. Yes, thatâs a long time but not still not 2 decades.
-
Another Jeremy tangent, this one about 3 pt shooting âtrickling downâ to college from NBA. Not sure what he meant by that as 3s have been integral to the college game for decades now.
-
Hunter on player retention implied Jahmir Young left primarily due to NIL when, in fact, JY departed to fulfill his long-time desire of playing for his âdream schoolâ and home state Maryland Terps. NIL was very nice âicing on the cakeâ but he would have transferred regardless of that perk.
-
Hunter said players get to immediately transfer if coach fired / leaves. Not anymore. Now there is a 15-day window that begins 5 days after a new coach is announced for players to enter the portal.
-
Said Matt Painter built program at Purdue. Predecessor Gene Keady did so after succeeding former UNCC coach Lee Rose, who left in 1980 after leading Boilermakers to that yearâs Final Four.
-
Said LuâCye Patterson âfizzled outâ at Minnesota. LP was Gophers 2nd leading scorer and assist man, starting all 32 games while also logging second most minutes played in 2024-25.
-
Said Nik Graves was âballing outâ at Creighton this season with chance to play in NBA. Graves was pulled from starting lineup due to poor play before regaining spot. BTW, Bluejays are 15-17 though selected for CBC tournament in Las Vegas, so chance to pick up some more wins in whatâs been a very disappointing season in Omaha.
-
Hunter butchered Yaxel Lendeborgâs first and last name and said he played for USF when he actually played for UAB.
-
Said Charlotte didnât begin AD hiring process until mid-January when the groundwork was being laid before then. With AD searches typically taking 3-6 months, fell well within those that time frame.
-
Then another Jeremy tangent, this one about P5 vs non-P5 conferences.
-
Finally, Hunter said Wichita State has historically been a top program in American. While that was true when the Shockers were in the Missouri Valley, since joining the American almost a decade ago they are on their third HC - two were fired - with a couple of one-and-done NCAAT appearances, zero league tournament championships, and only one regular season title.
Gonna be completely honest, a lot of those seem incredibly nit picky⌠and I know they arenât always right, but theyâre running that podcast more as fans than reporters.
For example, getting on them for saying Patterson fizzled out when minnesotaâs head coach was fired partially due to his poor play, but then also getting on them for saying nik graves is having a big impact for creighton when heâs playing almost 30 mins a night at 11 p / 4.5 A. (Better numbers than patterson).
Theyâre filling a void that no other fans are willing to do. I appreciate them giving us their unfiltered opinions on things even when i donât agree with a chunk of it
Definitely a good bit of nit picky - thus the Grandpa Simpson meme!
FWIW, Patterson averaged 33.2 mpg, 11.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and 3.3 apg while starting all 32 games for the Gophers last season. No one expected him to supplant returnee Dawson Garcia (19.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg) as the teamâs top player. Latter now a G League teammate of Brice Williams.
And Gravesâ stats during what has been the worst season for Creighton in over a decade - 26.7 mpg, 10.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg, and 4.3 apg while starting 20 of 32 games. As already mentioned, lost his starting spot midseason for poor play, though he definitely had others joining him on the pine as McDermott tried in vain to right the ship.
Hey everyone â just wanted to share my perspective as a huge Cincinnati Bearcats fan.
I really think Wes Miller is a great hire for you guys. I know the fact that he didnât make the tournament here raises some concerns â trust me, I get it. But this guy can flat-out coach. His defensive game planning is among the best in college basketball, and if he pairs that with the right offensive mind on his staff, you can compete right away.
Heâs also one of the hardest-working coaches out there. No one is going to outwork him when it comes to preparing, recruiting, and doing everything possible to win. He genuinely loves the game, and that shows in how he approaches his job every single day.
Honestly, I think his time at Cincinnati was more about timing than ability. He was hired to coach in the AAC, and then almost immediately the program jumped to the Big 12 â one of the toughest leagues in the country. Thatâs a massive shift, and I donât think he ever fully got the chance to find stability because of it.
All in all, I really believe this is going to turn out to be a great hire for you guys.
Appreciate the insight.
I think that a lot of our fans want to see a more offensive minded coach. 8 years of the pack line and whatever Fearneâs take on it would be called, has burned a lot of us out. Especially since we never could seem to get stop when it mattered.
Thank you for the perspective. Itâs been a long time since we have heard from a Bearcat. Your take is encouraging and appreciated.

I just wish we would get a legitimate source to verify that these rumors are true
Those are legit enough for me. Canât say Iâm the biggest fan of Lorensen but thatâs mostly due to his snarky posts while an intern under Leonard at Queens.
Meanwhile Leonard is hankering to get out of queens as fast as he can
so if the wes miller move does happen, is there anyone on the cinci roster thatâs worth poaching that he could get?
