New Student Ticket Distribution Plan

Chisox, OriginalNinerNation, Robert(former GG member, not sure if he’s on here or not) and I met with John George today to discuss a new student ticket distribution plan. Basically it does a few things:

-Gets rid of all student group tickets (no more Greek groups sitting together, no more GG seats, no more student athlete seats). Everything is individual with the option to bring in up to 5 people and have them grouped together

-Everything is based on points. You get points for going to other sporting events, for camping, for going to basketball games and for joining something called Niner Nation Gold which is a student branch of the 49er Club.

-Online ticketing. You will HAVE to do things online to get tickets based on your priority point rating. If not you will get the best available after all priority point tickets are handed out. You must request a ticket during a specific time period, then you can print it out yourself when you get an e-mail with your assigned ticket, or you can get it from the ticket office.

-201 through 207 are now general admission student seats.

The details are being hammered out, such as the exact amount of points to give for each thing, the time periods involved for the request period, ect. The plan was come up with by John and Michael from the ticket office and we have been meeting with them to discuss details and share ideas. They are looking for ideas from all people this will effect. The SOAR freshman are being told about this, so they will for the most part know the deal, need to spread the word to returning students about going to other athletic events for better bball tickets.

Just letting people know, thought a few of you might be interested about something like this…

so was mighty mitch being in bed with these guys a factor?

Gang Green is no more so we won’t have to worry about that.

This I like!

If it’s online ticketing then what is the purpose of camping out after a while? Couldn’t realistically someone go to soccor and volleyball games and then realistically get out of camping out? I know you don’t have the answers for this just something to think about.

Also with the elimination of student athlete seating, wouldn’t this basically punish those who are involved in athletics. I like the idea of the soccor team and so on coming out to basketball games. My better half had a roommate who played tennis freshmen year for the University and that takes up a tremendous amount of time. Once again just something for those who are close to the ticket office and make these kind of decisions to think about.

NinerNation Gold? How much would that cost and should money influence where you sit as a student? I know one of the big complaints about Gang Green was people claimed you were “buying” your seats. Something to think about.

These are just some thoughts from myself on the idea. Overall I like a lot of the ideas presented.

HEHEHEH i don’t have to worry about tickets yay for being in pep band biatches

the band/golddusters/cheerleaders comp. seats that are the only ones still reserved other than that you are gonna fight for seats

It’s a start, the groups will have to figure out how to get 10-15 together for games. On the other hand, making the upper level general admission is a great idea. It will force the students not getting the lower level seats to get there before the game instead of wandering in during the first media time out.

Campouts will still be helpful, they will get you a ton of priority points (much more than soccer games, volleyball, etc). Go to some other athletic events and camp out pretty often, and you will be set.

No more greek groups in the lower level. Bout damn time. I was getting really sick of looking over behind our players’ bench and seeinga sea of bright blue, yellow, red and ACC hats.

I for one like the new system, like Chris said, its still a work in progress. I think when its finalized it will be an excellent system.

Actually a lot of those questions have been asked…

If it's online ticketing then what is the purpose of camping out after a while? Couldn't realistically someone go to soccor and volleyball games and then realistically get out of camping out? I know you don't have the answers for this just something to think about.

The purpose of camping is to gain priority points. You could go to soccer and volleyball games instead, but you would have to go to multiple of those games to equal the points you would receive for one campout. The exact point values are being worked out, but it’s looking like camping will carry 3 or 4 times the value of attending another sporting event(figuring camping takes about 3 or 4 times the time it takes to go to one sporting event). But the idea is to give people options. If you have a job or 8 AM classes or something else and can’t camp, the idea is to give you different options to build up points. And also you will get points simply for getting a basketball ticket and using it.

Also with the elimination of student athlete seating, wouldn't this basically punish those who are involved in athletics. I agree and I will double check that student athlete seating is gone. I am pretty sure it is, but not 100%. I will bring it up to John.

NinerNation Gold? How much would that cost and should money influence where you sit as a student? I know one of the big complaints about Gang Green was people claimed you were "buying" your seats. Something to think about.

It’s a $20 fee at the beginning of the year. And finding a balance of points it would give a person is something that’s being worked out. No one wants people to be able to buy their seats through this, it won’t be a tremendous amount of points at all, at most it might be worth 2 campouts. And this is something that is going to happen, can’t avoid it. It’s the 49er Club’s plan to get students aware of their options after they graduate. The points won’t be outragous, there may be opportunities to gain extra points by attending NNG events, but paying $20 will get you some decent seats for the first couple of games, but after that the campers will leap frog over you(most of them will probably joing NNG and already be in front of you anyway).

These are just some thoughts from myself on the idea. Overall I like a lot of the ideas presented.

Thanks for the input, the student athelte point is something I will bring up and your other points are already being talked about. There isn’t going to be a plan to please everyone, that’s for sure, just trying to find a good balance to be a good start for this year.

Thank you very much for your answers! Appreciate it guys! Keep the details coming! GO NINERS!

year.

Is this a joke? Seriously, we are going to the A-10, student interest is going to go way down. Do we really wanna be tinkering with ticket distribution? Lets compare apples to apples so after this season we can see just how big of a s#ithole we got ourselves into.

FRATS PUT ASSES IN SEATS! Good luck bringing people in with Gang Green Club Gold. At $20 a head, you may be able to afford a pizza party before the big George Washington game.

Campouts are worth more than going to other sporting events? WTF? Way to build support for the program Einstein. This idea supports an all night drunken sausage fest more than the Mens Soccer team. Brilliant!!!

The online ticketing sounds way way to complicated. Students put up with enough B.S. registering for classes. They dont wanna go thru that crap twice a week. And, with everything online, where is the campsite gonna be? Outside the computer labs??

The biggest complaint last season wasnt about filling up the lower level. The problem was filling up the upper level and getting everyone to wear the same color. When is someone gonna work on fixing that instead of adding complications?

This shows what a incompetent department we have going. This school is relying on students for these types of important decisions. Unbelievable.

from what i understand you get like 2 points for attending every guy game 1 for camping out 1 for girls games and .5 a point for everything after that

i dunno who told you that, campouts are going to be worth more than everything else.

This new plan is a Joke. I am glad I don’t have to deal with it.

This is the stupidest idea ever, by making things more complicated you are going to piss the students off (like myself) and end up having 3 K at every game and that is all. I mean we all have to admit at somepoint that this is Charlotte not Duke, ticket demand is simply not that high. I say just leave it the way it is and find some way to hand out more green shirts thats the only real problem there is.

I dont like the fraternity letters (at least one of them wears green) just like many others but i dont think its a good idea to disengage those groups. Greek life on campus is a big part of the campus life which will become more obvious when the greek houses open in a year.

Thank God I’m graduating in 5 weeks. I’d rather pay for my tickets than deal with that shit.

clt says this is how tickets should be distributed.

all non season tickets should be distributed via the ticket office. the earlier you get in line, the better seats you get. you can only get 2 tickets at a time per infidel.

clt will now go solve more of the worlds problems.

Nah, that’s too simple. If you’re not pissing people off, then you’re not doing your job.

Yeah, I don’t really like the idea of camping being worth more than games. We’re trying to encourage people to come out to games, right? The setup should be something like soccer holds the most value, women’s basketball and volleyball next, campout, then men’s basketball holding the least value. Anyway though – whatever.

NNG is a part of the 49er Club and run by the same person. It’s to educate more people about being involved with donations and such after students graduate. I graduated in May and received NO information about the 49er Club. The idea is to educate while students are still in school to help bring in more after graduation.

Yes, Frats put asses in the seats, but they will still show up! The frats agreed with the ticket changes, they will still go to other sporting events to build up their individual points. But instead of 10 people doing the work to get 40 seats, it’s on more of an individual responsibilty to get better tickets.

Campouts are worth more than going to other sporting events? WTF? Way to build support for the program Einstein. This idea supports an all night drunken sausage fest more than the Mens Soccer team. Brilliant!!!

Campouts are one of the biggest ways to get the message out to people that there is a basketball game. People walk by all the time saying “why are you out here?”, you have to keep the campouts to keep that free advertising. You also have to make them worth more, which is harder to do, go to a 2-3 hour soccer/volleyball game or spend from 8 PM to 8 AM outside in the cold? In order to keep camping you have to make insentive. The idea is to give people options, no one is going to camp every game and go to every other sporting event, the idea is to give people with different schedules different options to gain points.

The online ticketing sounds way way to complicated. Students put up with enough B.S. registering for classes. They dont wanna go thru that crap twice a week. And, with everything online, where is the campsite gonna be? Outside the computer labs??
It's going to be as complicated as signing into your 49er Express account, making a couple of clicks and optionally typing in the names of people you want to sit next to. If you can't handle that then have fun with the general admission seats. Also letting people print their own eliminates a huge burden on the ticket office. It should eliminate the hour long lines once people understand taht getting their early doesn't really effect what ticket they will get. Getting this online was a big part of the plan from the ticket office's POV. With the enormous amount of commuters this school has it can only help getting more people involved. And remember, the online portion is optional, you will still be able to get GA seats in the 200's without going online at all. Considering only about 200 students who showed up with an ID last year got lower level seats, the vast majority of people will be getting the same upper level tickets they would have last year if they show up a day or two in advance with their ID.
The biggest complaint last season wasnt about filling up the lower level. The problem was filling up the upper level and getting everyone to wear the same color. When is someone gonna work on fixing that instead of adding complications?
What has been done to hurt getting people in the upper levels? If anything it's been helped because friends can show up at different times and get their tickets but still sit togther because it'll be GA up in the 200's. A demand for lower level seating has been added, last year there were really only about 170 tickets in 104 that campers faught over. Next year over 1,000 will be open to any student who wants them. People who didn't camp because it was too time consumming can now still get lower level seats by going to other events. I don't see how the demand was hurt. Also, by eliminated the Greek seating, it opens it up for the Greeks to wear the correct color shirts to games finally. That along with the school producing Niner Nation shirts will only help the shirt color problem.
This shows what a incompetent department we have going. This school is relying on students for these types of important decisions. Unbelievable.
The entire plan was come up with by employees in the ticket office working with the ticketing company. Students who were interested have come in and shared ideas about the specifics. Our first meeting we went in and were told that the 200's were going to be GA and that the lower level no longer had any group seating. These decisions were made without the help of students, but the students are being asked to share ideas about possible problems and solutions. How terrible is it that the ticket office wants the people the plan will affect to have some input into how it works?

Bottom line is that this plan is meant to give people some “ownership” into thier tickets. They can no longer just hand their ID to somebody and sit in 104 because their friends camped out. And no longer get 105 just because they are in a Greek organization. It doesn’t make it HARDER to get a ticket, as you can simply show up to the ticket office and show your ID and still get a ticket in the 200s. But it will increase the amount of people dedicated to getting lower level seating. Not everyone is going to think it’s a great plan, but not everyone thinks the one we’ve had in previous years was so great. All of the freshman are being educated about it, if the ticket office is able to successfully get the rest of the students educated it should work fine. The few clicks you will have to make online while checking your e-mail may be annoying to some, but I’m pretty sure a few people will find it a little less time consuming than standing outside the ticket office for an hour at 8 in the morning.

I think this is an excellent plan in theory and it addresses all of my concerns and then some. I love the online idea, great way to make it easy on lazy students.
