NINERS BLEW IT

Well, good season. To blow a 10-2 lead and lose in the last game of the season to James Maddison just pisses me off. It just shouldn’t happen. That’s all I’m gonna say.

it’s a shame we didn’t bring any pitchers to Raleigh.

I really hope Hibbs has some stud pitchers lined up for next year. I guess maybe having Adam Mills last year spoiled us, but we really need better pitching.

What a terrible game.

I’m really gonna hear about this on Monday. My closest coworkers graduated from South Carolina, ECU, and… JAMES F’ING MADISON!

You know, we really lost it because we could hit but we couldn’t hit when it mattered.

And our defense was pretty bad. The ump made some questionable calls both ways, but I thought the JMU fans were gonna lose it on them.

It was a really fun game to see, but we shot our load way too early, and just left guys on bases all game. JMU managed to keep the runs coming in consistently, while we sputtered out. We had a real hard time with their curve balls near the middle of the game.

Although I agree with you on most of your points, if we score 12 runs against James Maddison, we should win every time. In fact, if we score 12 runs on anybody, we should win.

1000% agreed. I said this in the a shout earlier and I’ll keep saying it. I’m so F’ing sick of our athletic programs letting us down on such a consistent basis by choking in the games that matter. 43-13 on the season and can’t even win one stinking regional game. I’m not asking for a CWS win or even a super regional win but you can’t even give us one regional win. Pathetic!!!

Yes we did. :frowning:

We should win. I’m not arguing that. But they were a lot better than we were that game. Not the first half, and their pitching was terrible, but they were a better team from the 5th inning on and in a big way.

We didn’t have pitching and our outfield defense was suspect. We didn’t have the pieces to win a game.

Very difficult to win baseball games when your pitching and defense give up 10+ points per game in the ncaa tournament field.
Hopefully we can get better results out of our pitching staff next season?
Any thoughts on next years squad??

I am so f’ing sick of obnoxious posters that have no clue about the reality of sports, theres a zillion of them on this website.

reality check: its our 4th regional in 29 years (93, 98, 07, 08), last year we won 2 games, to win more regional games this year would of been very difficult because ITS SPECIAL to get to that level.

keep in mind, every kid on this team signed as a recruit w/o the new facility, in other words we still have not had a recruiting class with our existing stadium, and facilities = talent. We have overachieved to get to the level we are. Now with the new stadium, you’ll see big time talent coming in. Sit back and watch.

The baseball team hasn’t let anyone down.

in regards to everyone dogging the pitching, keep in mind 3 key pitchers are hurt. Our ace (Yermal) was not even a starter at the beginning of the season…whats that tell ya?

We should beat JMU, but we rolled the dice vs USC and threw the kitchen sink at them. In hindsight, maybe we should of layed down and saved Hamilton and McClain

And you are asking alot for a fresham/Yermal to go out in his first season to face an SEC team at the regionals (I can’t even describe to you how difficult it is to stand on that hill mentally and physically in that situation). I was the starting pitcher for the Niners first NCAA game in 1993 at UT as a soph, so I have an idea of how he felt. Last year Mills was a SR and its a huge difference. USC has 3 guys projected as MLB players. We have 0. USC is light… I mean light years ahead of us talent wise. They are building a freaking $15 millon dollar facility.

I am not making excuses, just bear in mind the facilities arm race and where we are in it…we just joined the party.

You make some good points metro. Posts like those bother me. Especially when they come from those who never played an inning, quarter, half, down, of college sports in their life.

The fact of the matter is, and you know this better than anyone, you have to get people out. Our pitchers couldn’t do that this weekend.

Thoughts about next year: Young pitching with a stud freshman coming in should mean improvement.

starting rotation in the first series of the year vs Manhattan:
Rosenbaum
Moreland
Rivers

starters in regional:
Yermal
Stahl

Pitchers on DL:
Moreland (projected starter)
Pffirman (projected starter)

I understand that, but the guys that were pitching today and yesterday didn’t play well. They are young and have a ton of potential, hopefully they will improve and we will have a great team in the future.

The guys that pitched today are the same guys who helped us get to where we got.

It stinks we lost. It’s awesome we went to the NCAAs two years in a row. Let’s make it an annual appointment.

my point is this: you win in the NCAA tourny (in all sports) with healthy seniors who contributed for 4 yrs. We didn’t have that pitching. We had a beat up young staff

100% Agree with you.
