NINERS BLEW IT
we just joined the party.
Agree.

More important, to me, is making that stay involved in the party. Baseball and Golf have raised the expectations.

The both deserve credit.

I just hope these 2 sports don’t do what basketball has done — no NCAA wins since 2001 — and fade away for awhile.

my point is this: you win in the NCAA tourny (in all sports) with healthy seniors who contributed for 4 yrs. We didn't have that pitching. We had a beat up young staff

Ahhh, now I get your point.

metro is the voice of reason in this thread.

Silvio, say it ain’t so. No hoops wins in the tourney since '01? Are you sure?

I am so f'ing sick of obnoxious posters that have no clue about the reality of sports, theres a zillion of them on this website.

reality check: its our 4th regional in 29 years (93, 98, 07, 08), last year we won 2 games, to win more regional games this year would of been very difficult because ITS SPECIAL to get to that level.

keep in mind, every kid on this team signed as a recruit w/o the new facility, in other words we still have not had a recruiting class with our existing stadium, and facilities = talent. We have overachieved to get to the level we are. Now with the new stadium, you’ll see big time talent coming in. Sit back and watch.

The baseball team hasn’t let anyone down.

I’m so f’ing sick of apologist on NNN that get so offended when anything negative is said. Bottom line is just getting in the tourney is not that special it’s nice but certainly not special. If you think that’s special maybe you should raise your expectations a little. I think that’s part of the 9ers problem, there are way to many of our fans that are satisfied with just getting in post season play. Good lord man, they just went 43-13 during the season and couldn’t even hold off JMU with a 10-2 lead to get just one win in the regional. That pisses me off and it shocks me that there are people on this site that aren’t at all upset about it. I don’t know, maybe I just have a little higher standards for my University, so sue me.

Thats retarded. We are in the process of building a top program, but we haven’t reached that level yet. It’s been a long season and our pitching showed their youth which is what happens in NCAA Tournaments. Whoever it was that compared losing to JMU with losing to Monmouth is a dink. Ofcourse we should have won that game today, but **** happens! Our pitching was terrible all weekend, everyone knows it. This isn’t being apologist or making excuses, it’s being realistic. We haven’t reached that level… yet. We have a young staff with talent coming in. It will get better.

Our fans have a reason to be upset after failing to beat James Madison. You can’t criticize us for being upset about that, after the season we’ve had this year and last year. Charlotte baseball has grown leaps and bounds in the last several years, and it with continue to grow. We just recently started making the NCAA tournament, and that being said, we need to make the NCAA tournament every year, period. That is the expectation from now on.

making NCAA regional every year in the stacked CUSA would have been an incredible accomplishment.

I expect to make the NCAA Regional every year in the A10.

Nonetheless, an great year for a team that lost so much at the end of last season. Its a sign in college athletics of how good your program is after losing a handful of starters to graduation and coming back the next year and win.

Arms should be better next year, Pffirman coming back is HUGE! because hes left-handed and has some good stuff. Rosie and Yermal both back as well.

Losing Taylor, MAc, OB, Burt, Moody all hurts but I expect guys to step up and play.

BTW I have heard rumblings that Garret Hanselmann is coming back after his mormon mission. Folks who remember the last years in CUSA can attest that guy can straight up MASH!

I’m so f’ing sick of 49erMatt. Take your PS3 and your blah blah blahs to Coach Hibbs, I’m sure he’d love to hear your concerns.

Hanselmann is coming back it’s not a rumbling it’s a happening.

QFT

I’m obviously upset that we lost to JMU but like metro said we are starting to build this program to contend on a national level. I’m thinking this is just the beginning.

Tough loss to swallow, but in the overall picture the program is in good shape.

Call me a freshman (which i am because of 2 credit hours stupid 30 hour rule) but who is hanselmann and whats position and stats did he have

He only hit 4HRs with us vs. CUSA in his freshman year i think. But damn those things were moonshots over the tree line. He will likely play DH or 1B. These were his stats this year in Community College…

i couldnt agree with you more. everyone else has low expectations for us. we need to have bigger goals than just being in the postseason.

We have the same goals, but this isn’t the year. We had young pitching this year and they need to develop before they can make noise. No team is going to win the NCAA tourney with a Freshman #1. With all that we lost from last year, I’d say we did very well this year.

Well said. 49erMatt should have been there when I was there ('98 - '02) and no one even came to the games. We have come along way and the program is only getting better. Last year spoiled us I will admit because beating State’s ass was awesome. And our golf program? Man, I would have never dreamed that in a million years.

i never expected us to win the ncaa tournament but blowing a 10-2 lead is inexcusable.

Good point. There is no reason for us NOT to make the NCAA tournament every single year given the level of talent in A10 baseball.

Something worth noting not yet mentioned:

I believe JMU did what Hibbs refusses to do (Metro, correct me if I’m wrong abou this). They used the same pitcher for NUMEROUS pitches in consecutive games. I think Friday’s starter also threw over 50 pitches again yesterday after probably throwing 75 pitches on Friday.

That’s a good way to throw an arm away in my book. Hibbs refuses to jeopardize the pitcher’s arms. I commend him for it.

I was there Saturday. It was dishearteneing to see us lose the way we did, but let’s wait another year or 2 to see where we stand. I think we’ll be in good shape. I want us to host a regional, and soon.

correct. Hamilton can hit 92mph and thats what Hibbs meant by ā€œhe can do things beyond this level.ā€

What the JMU coach did was shameful and will ruin your reputation.

totally bush league for a guy who threw 75 pitches to throw 50 the next day
