I'm so f'ing sick of apologist on NNN that get so offended when anything negative is said. Bottom line is just getting in the tourney is not that special it's nice but certainly not special. If you think that's special maybe you should raise your expectations a little. I think that's part of the 9ers problem, there are way to many of our fans that are satisfied with just getting in post season play. Good lord man, they just went 43-13 during the season and couldn't even hold off JMU with a 10-2 lead to get just one win in the regional. That pisses me off and it shocks me that there are people on this site that aren't at all upset about it. I don't know, maybe I just have a little higher standards for my University, so sue me.
youāre clueless- and I bet you got cut from every girls softball team you ever tried out for.
read the facts: not one of our starting pitchers from our opening series in Feb threw in Raleigh. We were patched together and lucky to get where we were.
and to pile even more in your faceā¦OUR BEST RELIEVER had his face shattered (literally) a month agoā¦did ya know that Yogi???

and he refused to get it wired shut. shows how much determination and character players on this team have.
hibbs has done well with this group of guys and will continue to do well coaching for as long as he sees fit.

I donāt understand why people get so upset when someone says something negative. Itās just their opinion.

go reread the thread, āfing sick of teams chokingā is not what this team did
Iād say the baseball team choked āIFā they had their squad they thought preseason. 3 huge injuries on the staff = no room for fans to vent in a negative fashion.
Ok agreed. Maybe they didnāt choke, however, I bet if you ask the players they are a little disappointed. There was no excuse to lose to James Madison. Even if they didnāt win the regional, they couldāve at least won 1 and I bet any of the players would agree with that.

true, but take into consideration what happened:
game 1- you throw a freshman (who was not even a starter in Feb) and he got hit hard by USC. Then in the 2nd inning, you have to decide if you concede the game and throw your lesser relievers, or burn our 2 studs, and we did the latter hoping to beat USC.
the same a-holes who call us chokers, would be pissed had Hibbs conceded the USC game saving his 2 studs out of the pen- Ham and McClain.
I agree we should beat JMU day in day out, but there is more to it from a decision made the previous day. Keep in mind they threw their ace 75 and 50 pitches 2 days in a row which is IRRESPONSIBLE.
We scored 12 runs, and our experience rested in our hitters not our pitching staff. The experienced players did their part.
Hibbs gave his best shot to beat USC, the only game that really mattered. He didnāt coach to be mediocre and just win a game before getting knocked out of the regional. Give the man some props to that. He didnāt quit on his team when they were down; he threw everything he had at USC. The better team ended up winning. No offense to anyone on our baseball team, but USC is loaded with talent. (And we still managed to beat them this year, thatās pretty impressive on its own.)
We were defenseless against JMU, so we lost. Whatever, big deal. I donāt care about winning or losing to JMU⦠as long as we gave everything we had when it mattered.

I don't know much about the health of pitchers arms, but I imagine doing something like this could end a kid's career. For what? To win ONE game in a regional? Stupid.
I dont follow baseball, so Iām not qualified to make a statement about the sport. I dont know 2 ****s about James Madison, and I cant tell you if we blew the game or not.
What I can say is the life of a Niner fan is hard freakin work. 1 and dones in post season tournaments get real hard to swallow after a while.
Iām with you Metro. I was pi$$ed off on Saturday, but I got over it because this team did show a lot of character this season, when all things are considered (ie; pitching staff being destroyed with injuries). The thing that I hate the most after we lose a game or an NCAA series, is some of our own fans ripping us continually as if we ALWAYS choke in every sport. Has the golf team choked out in the first round recently? No. Did the baseball team lose out last season in their first 2 games? No. This year, we just didnāt have the pitching depth/quality to get any further. Yes, it sucks but this team/program will be back. I see the pitching that will return next year and even a couple newcomers that will help a lotā¦Get over it drama queens, weāre not as bad as you make us out to be!
During the A10 tournament, Luke Stahl was left in the game and threw a complete game against Rhode Island. In doing so, he saved our pen for the championship game.
In the regionals, Luke Stahl had a 10-4 cushion after 4-1/2 innings and was removed. Why? Stahl already showed he had the durability. And we needed to save the 'pen if we wanted to give ourselves any shot at moving to the next round.
Highly questionable managerial decision. Even if we had won, we would be in piss-poor pitching shape for any future games.

apples and oranges
actually he was removed with 2 outs in the 5th. We were up 10-4, but there were 2 on first and third. I suspect Hibbs wanted R on R. Its one swing from being 10-7.
the A10 game was 11-1, Rhody had 2 hits the entire game. The lone run was a solo shot.
what I am saying is JMU was rallying big time, Stahl needed to come out. In the A10/Rhody game there was not a single rally nor close to a threat.
Hibbs also knows tendencies you nor I see. Maybe he knew Stahl was done or doesnāt react well in that situation, etc.
A college team who came from being a nobody to making the NCAA tournament two years in a row blowing a 10-2 lead isnāt choking. Itās inexperience.
The āmost accomplished franchise in professional sportsā (as a friend of mine put it) blowing a 3 games to none lead⦠now thatās choking.
Or a franchise that illegally video tapes opposing teamsā signs being 18-0 and losing in the title gameā¦now that is choking.
i wonder if even a majority of the percentage of the people complaining even regularly attend baseball games. the way people complain on this site is laughable.
Iāll take two if the better year in the programs history back to back. It sucks balls to blow that game vs Madison but that loss should discount the positive trend we have going. This coupled with the new park has set the table for future success- recruiting will get easier.
You need building blocks, you donāt just skip the steps and go to the CWS.
