nvm
so we need to go after a big guy. Preferably a 4 year player but it looks like we might have to go juco route if davilla doesn’t pan out.
We wont, because they dont play the same position. Lee is a 2 (who plays the point a good bit), Harris is a pure pg.You’re right though, after Lee graduates, we only have Ian and Barnett at the two. As much as I like Ian, we definitely needed to sign another sg for the 08 season. So as of right now it’s Ian, Javarris and Shamarr at the two in 08.
Yea I know but I had to put the disclaimer for some people on this board

Bowden made an unofficial visit to Charlotte on Friday and then drove to Wilmington for an unofficial visit with Benny on Saturday. Moss had felt it was between the 49ers and UNCW.
"“I think I will fit in with the system real well at Miller. They do a lot of cutting and using screens and my game is pretty much coming off screens and shooting the ball,” Bowden said. “Although I’m pretty much a two-guard now, I will get a lot of work as a combo guard which will help me be able to play the point. "
After reading this quote…if this guy is a combo guard who likes to shoot, well then it wasn’t hard to see he was coming here. That’s all we’ve really had in the last 10 years.
I really hope we aren’t battling it out with Benny and UNCW for recruits, though. No offense to them, but that kinda scares me. Was the VPI offer pulled, I wonder? Or did he say no to them for some reason?
Thanks Mike!
I got information on interest being shown to a recruit for 2009. I don’t know a ton and because I don’t know the interest level on either side I don’t want to divuldge anything other than he plays the 3 & 4. I can’t find much online about him so I will save the rest until anything else materializes at which time I will give it it’s own thread. He plays with my cousin in Ohio.
Good to hear we have future prospects.

Man… you know you’re going to drive everyone nuts with this insider info thing…

I wouldn’t label him the next Chris Sager just yet Iron. Vanderbilt offered him a scholarship. That alone says a lot.
You guys are all talking about when we will have no real good guard play when Lee leaves but does anyone remember Michael Gerrity. This guy started at Pepperdine as a true freshman as well as being a four year starter at Mater Dei High School.

Shamarr Bowden (6'3" Jr. SG, Greensboro (NC) Miller School) Nice scoring guard was an important complement to the inside scoring of teammate Ed Davis this weekend. He shot the ball well from long range all weekend long and has above average quickness, and generally seemed to take good shots along the way.Link: Hoopville.net

Greenberg is losing them left and right. Augustus Gilchrist decides VT isn’t for him after the shootings and will be prepping, Nigel Munson – pretty much pencilled-in as the starting PG in 07-08 – decides he wants to be closer to home and is transferring (word is he wants to go to GW but Greenberg has said anywhere but there!), and Dorenzo Hudson has yet to earn admission due to academics. Hmmm…
Here is some info with some box scores:

Also his teammate daquan cook will play at St. Bonaventure

He’s a PG… we’re talking about a SG… whether Gerrity is a scoring PG or not you still need a SG out on the court.

The guy from Louisa he mentions… I don’t know him, but when I played in HS we used to kick the **** out of that team.
Hey cool - welcome to Charlotte, Shamarr Bowden! It’s a brand new name for me and I’m looking foward to seeing what he brings to the table. So far I like what I’ve read in this thread.
Since the open 2007 schollie is obviously intended to go towards a mid-season pickup a la Gerrity (otherwise, we would have given it to Harris by now) and the last 2008 schollie is reserved for Harris … does that mean we are finished for 2008 recruiting this year?
I was kind of hoping that we’d have a name to chant this year at March Madness besides ‘Wilderness’ again. Maybe we can get a 2009 to join the festivities.

Gerrity is already on scholarship btw. We have 1 scholarship left. If Lewis opts out of his 5th year we could have a possible 2 scholarships left. Assuming Lewis wants to stay for another season.

Welcome to the board, 35 - and you’re absolutely right. I’d expect Gerrity to be a starter the moment he is eligible.
Of course with a 15-man roster, the team could use the appropriate amount of guards, fowards, and centers. The more talented, the better. Gerrity, Ian, Barnett, Harris, and now Bowden (hopefully Lewis will hang around for another year, too) means that we’ll be pretty settled at guard for quite some time! Seems like a good mix of zone-busters, speedsters, and height. Hopefully, someone out of the group will be able to defend too.
