No NIL...you get this

Totally disagree. Win, and you get more nil, and exposure, which means you can replace the players you lose with other quality players

Im just not sure there are enough people that see value in that model- especially for us. At what point of donating to NIL do you realize how much a waste it is? Why do that for Charlotte when you can can a fan for free at Chapel Hill and they don’t need your NIL money and get top talent.

FWIW I have talked to 2 people who did donate to our collective that said they won’t after Patterson fiasco. It’s only two - but have to wonder how many other folks are jaded.

Gonzaga is never Gonzaga with NIL. That example lets you know how heavy of a lift it will be for us moving forward.

There sre a lot of multi millionaires out there that can not buy into the NFL or NBA but can now buy a college BB team and be the defacto owner / GM.
Arkansas and Rutgers are 2 prime examples if you look at where their NIL money flows from.

It would take YEARS of consistent winning (Conf Tourney, NIT/NCAA) to build a consistent base of donations/supporters needed to maintain/attract a certain level of player(s).

We haven’t won consistently in 20 yrs…without NIL.

Like NWA said…get lucky with a roster today and have 1 good season and win…just once…and the players get plucked away now.

How do you build a consistent winner like that? You literally can’t.

If your entire premise is built on IF we build a consistent winner…THEN we can get consistent NIL support…then that premise is DOA. Because with NIL we literally can NOT build a consistent winner (when our best players are plucked away every season).

We improved last season, and lets say we improve again this season, we get more nil donations, which means better ability to replace what we lose.

But again…how do you build a CONSISTENT winner when your best players get plucked away every year???

Luck??? So you plan to HOPE we get lucky for 5-10yrs straight??

You said (and you’re right) that we need to win big and consistent to build our NIL base.

In this environment…there is NO way to do that. Because you don’t even have to win even a little…your best players are gone every year (see our last 3 seasons).

I also said that each year of winning will increase your nil funds, so the quality of players you can land is better. Thats how you build a consistent winner.

So…us winning this past year gave us enough NIL to lose our top 3 players…
And the guys we signed to replace them are better…
which has improved our roster…
so we will win even more next year???

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh No.

Our roster is decimated. We’re relying on luck again with the unknowns that are replacing the starters.

This will be the yearly cycle…which does not produce consistent winning seasons which will not generate a truckload of NIL every year.

But thats exactly what happened the last 2 years. We lost our best players from the previous year and improved. So why can’t that happen again next year?

Theres luck to everything but we added quality pieces and yes, i anticipate being better. We had no depth, no 3 point shooting, no size on the wing and minimal athleticism already and we still have 3 to give

Thats called luck. Luck by definition isn’t consistent. You can’t build or sustain success based on getting lucky every year.

How is this concept so difficult to understand!?

Your assumption is that its a result of luck. Mine is that its due to finding the right replacement pieces and good coaching. As you point out, luck isn’t consistent so we couldnt have just lucked into 3rd place in the AAC. It had to be more than that.
Lets see how things turn out next year. If we continue to improve then its clearly not about just getting lucky

Not like we’re trying to replace Bird and McHale……

Alright @ninermac time to shut the board down. The posters say we can never achieve anything now.

We used to get lucky from time to time during our heyday. Out of a team of 12 players…we would hit on a Diego…or a Jarvis…or a Demarco…or Jobey…maybe once every couple of years.

But when we did …we’d keep them and build around them for 4 yrs.

Now…we have to find a DIego, Jobey and Jarvis every year (to be good again)…literally every year. It’'s rare to find one stud every 2/3 yrs or so… Now you’re asking the coaches to find 3 studs EVERY year consistently for a decade or more???

That takes more luck than hitting a Powerball

No, we don’t. We are not recruiting high school kids and hoping they produce in college, we are recruiting players with xollege experience and have a track record that gives us an idea of how they will produce here. Different ballgame.

You’re not way off base but there’s a part you’re skipping.

Most everyone at our level is in the same boat.

I don’t know how many times this will be said and how many times the doom and gloomers will ignore it.

Weve been in the same boat with the same group for 20yrs…without NIL and unlimited transfers…and couldn’t compete/recruit consistently.

But i guess NIL and unlimited transfers just makes that easier now?

Silly me.

In all honesty, we’ve never had highly ranked talent outside of Rodney White. Our success has been evaluating raw talent and developing it. I hate the new system but at least we offer a thriving, metropolitan city to live in. Imagine being a 20 yo and choosing to live in Lynchburg or Provo.
