Not Happy With Win
I wasn’t there, but where was the inbounds from, wasn’t it on our side of the halfcourt line?
Inbounds was from underneath our own basket (same spot it would have been if Temple had just scored). That’s why it was a little riskier to toss it down low underneath our own goal… an interception may have given Temple a chance to get off a good shot.

there is a big difference in 5 secs on the clock and 1.1.

I wasn’t there, but where was the inbounds from, wasn’t it on our side of the halfcourt line? I won’t argue with the result of the game, but the result of that play is hard to argue for. 1.1 seconds, surey to God you can get the ball in, and if you didn’t have a timeout to call, we could have just thrown it at someone who’s back was turned.

I’ll describe it one more time. The inbound pass was from underneath the opposing basket. The ball was thrown down court where Phil Jones and a Temple player were standing. The idea is that one of them will touch the ball and time will run out. Unfortunately nobody got a finger on it and it went out of bounds giving Temple the ball under their own basket with 1.1 seconds remaining. Good call; bad execution.

Its a decent call if you have someone with any kind of mobility waiting for the ball to at least swat at it. Phil is a big target, but can’t move at all if the ball doesn’t go directly to him.

Yes, it was bad execution. But, really, it should be VERY easy to have a guard cut to the inbounder and receive the pass with one second left. The 75 foot pass to jones is a bad option, in my opinion. Too hard to make a 75 foot well placed pass.

didn't see any of your explainations before, thanks. For some reason watching the shoutbox I had the impression we were inbounding from the halfcourt line. But then again at one point in the shout box someone said "Ball game" then couple of people posted "whew"/"good win" then 2 minutes later (real time) we are inbounding with 1.1 secs on the clock?

I’m not complaining, because winning ugly is, hey, what we do, and that’s how we’ll have to win all year, but that playcall was ridiculous. The only way I could see that being called is if we actually were having trouble getting the ball inbounds. We didn’t at all, ALL GAME, because we have very quick guards. That play was stupid, especially bc we were passing it to the guy with the worst hands and coordination on the team, but we made up for it by good defense once again and we won. Bottom line, we pulled it out, so it’s over. Learn from your mistakes and move on. I just hope we don’t try that again. GO NINERS!!!

Couldn’t we have just thrown it backcourt to a guard like we usually do?

they were manning up everyone tight bc it was their only prayer. Harris would have been too small a target in that type of situation. Normally they arent sticking to them like white on rice when we do that…

I just watched the game video archived on Yahoo. I think Mack was so pumped up after taking the charge that he just threw it way too far.

I recommend the Yahoo service. They show the pregame introduction video, you can pause it, fast forward, reverse. It looks like we are starting to take advantage of mis-matches and going to the hot guy. Was much easier to see on tape.

I think I would have been happier with a loss too.

Wow man… just wow.
-take the Win and move on.
-Not every win is going to perfectly done
-Temple is a good team ! (they have a tough schedule like we do , so they’re record doesn’t reflect it.)

…

I really think I’m going to have to give up on this website again.

first off im happy that we won and will take a win where we can get it but temple is not a good team is not a good team they are an ok team. they have two good guards and no depth or inside game.

this thread is ridiculous

this thread is ridiculous

thank you. you shouldn’t have to defend A WIN… but we seem to find ways on this website.

Why don’t some people understand that even if you win, there are still improvements to be made? Discussing those improvements is not being a bad fan.

I think his point is he is “Not happy with ‘the way we’ won”… we all criticize after games, I think some people are just concentrating too hard on the topic of the subject. I really would find it hard to believe that someone is not happy with a “W”, but the way you went about it may not be so pleasing.

This thread is rediculous. Bobby said Temple had the two best guards we’ve faced all year. We held them relatively in check. The team was due for a let down after a big win. The 1.1 second pass was a good idea, it was just executed poorly.

With bad officiating and Andersen’s injury, the team was forced to play strange line ups. Dewberry, Mack, and Lee really came through. Temple’s coach said that their second half defense was by far they’d played all season.

Sure it was an ugly win, but it was a good win. A lot of character was shown gutting out this one.

[Gavel sound]

I can’t remember the exact quote, but I think Bobby said in Utter’s blog that the long pass was the 3rd option on that play. The guards were smothered so Mack went with option 3. It was a bad pass and it ALMOST cost us the game, but it didn’t, we’re undefeated in the A10, let’s go beat the Hawks.

Let’s be honest, the only ones unhappy about this win are the one’s who want Bobby out… just keep winning, just keep winning, winning, winning

I realize that there are improvements to be made, but to say “I’M NOT HAPPY WITH A WIN” or “I’D BE MORE HAPPIER WITH A LOSS.” is just ridiculous.

I think it wasa good call to go full court pass as 49Xthe lovin said. If you throw to the back (near) court, you risk Temple actually grabbing it and putting up a <30 ft. shot. If you get it past half court, all you have to do is have someone touch it and 1.1 secs or at least .7 or .8 (enough to require a tip-in on a subsequent inbounds) will tick off the clock. Thats high percentage that someone on some team will touch it, but it just didn’t happen. Glad to win though.
