Notable C-USA players opting to stay or transfer out

Not everyone happy with the coaching change at Tulsa. SG Jordan Clarkson (1st team All C-USA) transfers to Mizzou, while PG Eric McClellan is headed to Vandy.

So, we’re not allowed to start threads about former Niner coaches in the 49er Basketball Forum, but it is okay to start threads about Tulsa in the 49er Basketball Forum?

Boy Run, You be butt hurt or something?

Naw, but let the mods move things as they will. A rose is a rose by any other name no? So, it doesn’t matter what forum a thread is in, the thread will still be the same.
As for saying that the mods should let threads be in any forum then, they are organizing the threads as they see fit, so that new people, and visitors can build a frame work about Charlotte athletics. think about the n00bs…THINK ABOUT THE N00BS!

I’m not supposed to report Conference USA news? What’s that all about?! ???

I’m just messing Run.

Ok, I’ll play. Is the new Tulsa coach as bad as ours? This scene of players leaving seems somewhat familiar.

Now the thread can stay in this forum

Maybe we can move it to the NCSU forum, they lost 3 after this year. You’re trying too hard 49r9r

I’m really not trying very hard at all 2k.

I know where I have seen this rash of players leaving before! At UNC-P. Good thing we did all the stealing :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

FWIW, don’t remember anyone objecting to the postings about Lyons and McConnell transferring. Just figured that whatever is happening with our conference opponents, both current and future, is newsworthy.

Manning has been a busy man as he works to replenish the team.

Former St. Joe’s guard Pat Swilling Jr. of New Orleans joins the Hurricane after spending last season as a JUCO at the College of Southern Idaho. Swilling, son of retired NFL Pro-Bowler Pat Swilling, is probably remembered best for what he did off-court at St. Joe’s than on. He and Todd O’Brien were involved in an incident that resulted in both being suspended “for failure to comply with the university’s community standards” (and probably what kept Martelli from releasing O’Brien to UAB). Anyway, when Swilling left SJU, rumor had him landing at UCF or Louisiana Tech prior to taking the JUCO route. Then he had actually committed to Samford of the SoCon before getting a “better” offer. Hopefully he’ll continue to stay out of trouble during his 2 seasons in Tulsa.

Former Northeastern F Kauri Black joins the Hurricane for a one-and-done in 2012-13 as a grad student. Didn’t have big numbers as a Huskie (4.6 ppg and 3.2 rpg in 33 starts in 2011-12), but Manning needs the bodies!

In addition, a couple of freshman guards, PG Rashad Ray of New Orleans, and combo G Shaquille Harrison of Kansas City, have signed on as well.

Not sure if any of the three players signed by Doug Wojcik stayed with Tulsa or not. Will check on that and report later.

Other notable players saying “adios” to C-USA include a couple of Rice players: starting PG Dylan Ennis (2012 C-USA All Freshman team - transferring to Villanova) and SF Jarelle Reischel (13 starts and one of only 2 Owls to play in every game in 2011-12 - transferring to Rhode Island after choosing URI over VCU).

In addition, SG LaShay Page, 2nd leading scorer (11.6 ppg) for Southern Miss, is leaving to get closer to his South Carolina home. Page is from Dillon, SC and wants to be closer to family following the death of his mother earlier this year. Per the Clarion-Ledger, Coach Tyndall tried to convince Page to stay for his final year, but to no avail. In turn, Tyndall gave Page a list of 10 schools he could transfer to, but not sure if Niners on that list or if we even have a spot open with JT Thompson coming on board. Anyway, Page has graduated from USM, so will be eligible to play in 2012-13.

One notable who decided not to leave C-USA early (for the NBA, not as a transfer) is Tony Mitchell at North Texas. Gets some good pub here:

He’ll never play a game in CUSA.

Barring injury, he’s a lottery pick next year. No way he stays at UNT for his junior season.

He’s only played one year. He’s a soph and already said he is coming back next year, which run stated in his initial post.

Tony Mitchell will play another season in the Sun Belt and then will bolt for the NBA as a top 7 pick. He never said he would return after his soph. season.

In fact, many were surprised Mitchell didn’t leave UNT after this past season, especially when Jones left to take over at LSU. Anyway, probably 2013 Sun Belt POY, then off to the NBA.

Oh yeah, didn’t realize they are not in CUSA this year. No way he comes back after this coming year, I agree with you. They lucked out they got him in the first place.
