Now Listening to...

All over the place tonight… such extremes:

First: Mirroring - Fell Sound

This is a side project for Jesy Fortino (Tiny Vipers) and Liz Harris (Grouper). This song demands the right mood, which is probably late, late at night, behind the wheel or after a couple of drinks. It’s an intense, but perfectly pitched dream, with just the faintest ominous haze to it. It’s intoxicating.

Second: The Lumineers - Ho Hey

Live video - The Lumineers - Ho Hey

This sounds like Edward Sharpe w/ a splash of Avett Brothers. It couldn’t be any more different than the last song I linked. It’s a happy, feel good song that demands you sing along at maximum volume. My wife loves it.

Westbound Train - I’m No Different

The new Punch Brothers album is really good. No one takes you seriously when you mention a bluegrass band, but you really need to give these guys a shot. The new album even has their Kid A cover on there.

This one is from their last album…

Punch Brothers - Rye Whiskey

Tennis - Origins (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

I am getting pretty excited to hear the upcoming Guards record… (no official release date yet).

If you happen to know or like Cults, this is the band fronted by Cults’ lead singer Madeline Follin’s brother.

I’ve been listening to the Do It Again single for the last few months. It’s still great. Turns out they made a video for it. I dont know how to post a direct link to the video, but I like it enough to recommend it:

So, anyway, he has a full band now, and they are in the studio:

Guards - BTR Live Studio [ep90]

And I think they’re gonna be a good time band. I’d really like to see them:

Guards Live at Daytrotter Barnstormer IV

The 6ths - Falling out of Love (With You) (with Dean Wareham)

Found this band on Spotify. Hard to find much on them online, but they’re pretty dope.

Roster McCabe - The Traveler - Live Performance

Trying this one on to see if it sticks…

I like the video a lot. Not sure about the song. It’s understated, but sometimes those are the ones that have the most substance…

This is the thread I meant to post this in. Best song.

Twilight Singers - Blackberry Belle
Saw 'em @Cat’sCradle last May…terrific show for that venue.

Greg Dulli’s band right?

The same. I’m a huge fan of his and Mark Lanegan…Afghan Wigs, Sreamin’ Trees, Twilight Singers, Gutter Twins…awesome stuff.

Good man!

I was gonna say the same thing. I like Duli and Lanegan, but am not as fanatic as most of their fans are.

I did frequently rock out to Afghan back in the day. Debonair and Gentleman were awesome.

I’ll never forget them being the house band at the bar in Beautiful Girls. That was kind of surreal.

Other Lives - Tamer Animals (Free, legal MP3 download provided by Paste magazine)

… This one is really growing on me. Pretty righteous played through a nice set of cans…

like for instance, these AKG 702s…

BTW, if you are any kind of music lover, you owe it to yourself to own or at least try out high end headphones. It’s amazing how much better music sounds on them. Will open up new worlds.

This is also my jam:
Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra) - official video

I just find it amusing that I’ve been onto Gotye longer than PB… I feel so… smug.

Why the fuck didn’t you share that shit?!

This is kinda cool… sounds a great deal like Curve, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing…

Heavy bass line, kinda brooding, sultry female lead, yeah, it works.
