Now Listening to...

After spending a few months with this album, I’m becoming more convinced it is the most underrated of 2010.

Sure Bushwick Blues and White Table are great “singles” tracks, but the deep tracks are what make this one great. A couple of examples:

Delta Spirit- Ransom Man

(album cut)

or

Ransom Man - Live @ SXSW 2010

Delta Spirit “Ransom Man” - SXSW Music 2010

and Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead, Live on KCRW

Delta Spirit performing “Devil Knows Youre Dead” on KCRW

or live on Le Figaro.fr

Delta Spirit - Devil knows you’re dead - L’invité du Figaro.fr

Both are extremely cathartic songs, for different reasons. I love listening to the album cut of Ransom Man, driving on a lonely highway at night. The emotion behind it is overpowering. It engulfs you.

Almost didnt postt his because the cameraman is retarded:

Ive been listening to a lot of other stuff, but I guess I’ve made it my mission to champion these guys.

Oh,a nd how awesome has ACL been lately? Band of Horses (great), The National (snoozer), Monsters of Folk (excellent) Black Keys (yep), Sonic Youth (kinda disappointing)… The lineups have been awesome.

Your constant hatred of them only makes me want to post more:

The National - Terrible Love Castle Rock Session Pitchfork.tv

Really good version of that song, and its in a castle so there’s something for everyone.

NA is right, The National is boring. Restorations on the other hand, pretty solid.

Second coming of hum, but mixed with folky influences.

hehehe I dont hate them Cmack. I just think they’re boring cause of the lead singer. He’s a lounge act. If they had a dynamic frontman, they might be okay. I like some of the music, but it comes off alwfully sleepy, and that’s coming from a guy who actually listens to Morning Benders…

Boring, but in the most awesome way possible.

Hum was good.

I think it’s a valid criticism, it took me a while to get used to it but I’ve been thoroughly addicted for a few years now after not being very interested for a while, his voice is a big hurdle. Then again, I like The Walkmen as well, so maybe I just like boring music?

That guy from the Walkmen is trying to be Dylan so bad…

They’re okay too, but their best song is a cover, and their fans will shoot me for saying that, but it’s true.

Which one? I think Angela Surf City is probably their best song

Check out restorations then. They are awesome.

The Walkmen–Another One Goes By–Fox Soccer Channel Promo

Originally by Mazarin… That song demands a bottle of whiskey and a broken heart. It’s fantastic.

I’m gonna spam some more Delta Spirit until someone shames me into stopping:

KEXP inStudio 7.1 - DELTA SPIRIT

Vivian - Matt Vazquez lost his grandpa and his grandma while he was out on tour. He wrote this one for them. Singing as his gramps… Has a definite Tom Waits vibe to it too. The banjo version is quite a departure from the album cut but I like it.

Delta Spirit - “St. Francis” (In-studio on TheAlternateSide.org)

St Francis - this and Ransom Man are now my favorite two songs on that album. Acoustic, but still amazing.

Braid - Frame & Canvas for the first time because they are reuniting and I wanna see what the fuss is about. Pretty good stuff.

Cake= both new and old

I’ve been listening to a lot of Edward Share, mainly because my kids demand it almost non stop. There is a really cool cover on youtube of some toddler and her dad covering home. Kinda gets to me a bit.

Home - Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros Acoustic Cover (Jorge & Alexa Narvaez)

Also listening to a band called Black Mountain. They are getting a lot of Zeppelin comparisons, and you can hear the influence but its still kinda unfair imo. Good stuff regardless

Black Mountain - “The Hair Song” (Official Video)

Edward Sharpe is pretty good hadn’t heard that song in awhile, good one. Had to go look it up and listen to it again.

I mainly listen to what NA tells me to.

I know it’s not in the true spirit of this thread but as cooky as Steven Tyler has gotten by being on American Idol, I had to be reminded that the dude is really talented. Wish Aerosmith could have continued with their 70s and 80s formula.

For the first line or the second? The first one was honest, the second was loaded with sarcasm.

Cowboy Dan by Modest Mouse just came on Pandora, and for some reason it struck me that this song triggers feelings about our AD.

Modest Mouse - Cowboy Dan

Everytime you think you're walking you're just moving the ground Everytime you think you're talking youre just moving your mouth Everytime you think you're looking youre just looking down

I’m just happy to hear that you genuinely like Edward Sharpe & TMZ. I love that song, especially the Letterman peformance. That’s not a one hit album either. 40 Day Dream kicks butt, and Jade can sing her ass off.
