now that we have a coach, we have to focus on recruiting. with four scholarships, we need another shooter, a small forward and a big man. i think we should save one scholarship for next season. who is out there? mcdonald is still available, taurin blue, talor battle half brother decommitted from penn state, kenyan harmon, etc. there is some decent talent available so we shouldnt have any excuses.
If we decide to hold on to that schollie, could we possibly give it to a walk-on for the year? It is just one year, but if nobody is going to use it anyway it would be nice to help one of the walk-ons out…
…and if Colby gets it, it might not hurt our chances with Tyler down the road…

so basically give it to parks or lewis for a year and then take it away. if tahts okay with them then yeah.
i saw that tauirn buie was one of the players that major was targeting while at osu. wonder if he will follow him here. it would solve our depth problem at shooting guard.
Here’s an unsigned player I saw mentioned on Zagsblog who sound pretty decent - 6-8 PF Jonathan Graham out of Baltimore:
ESPN.com: Jonathan Graham | PF
Terptalk.com: Update on Jonathan Graham
BTW, also reading that at least two of the Wake signees - 6-2 PG Tony Chennault and 6-10 C Carson Desrosiers - are having 2nd thoughts since Guadio was fired.
In addition, Clemson signee 6-7 PF Marcus Thorton has requested to be released from his NLI following the resignation of Oliver Purnell.
Of course, local product 6-6 PF DeMon Brooks (2010 I-Meck POY) did receive his release from Howard and has decided to join his Hopewell teammate 6-5 SG Jordan Downing at Davidson.
Anyway, the window is small but there are players out there. Will be interesting to see what transpires.
I do not think we will ever have another chance to come in and possibly nab a couple of recruits from 2 of our ACC nemesis WFU & Clemson because of coaching changes. We almost had a trifecta with recruiting competiton if Va Tech had lost Greenberg to St. Johns. If Goodman is correct and WFU chooses Colorado coach as Dino’s replacement then I think all the WFU LOI’s will be worthless. If we could grab JT Terrell and one other I would be elated. The payback would be sweet!!
Signed with Penn State. BTW, he’s the younger brother of current Nittany Lion PG Talor Battle.

he asked out of his letter of intent.

Jalen Steele…guard from Fulton High School in Knoxville, got his scholarship released from Auburn when they fired Lebo. He’s a PLAYA!
there are plenty of good players available. especially with the firings, there are a good amount of good players decommitting. no excuses to not bring in some talent.
I agree. I’m thinking that he wouldn’t have been hired if they didn’t think he could bring in talent. Bringing in talent starts now. We need a couple of key pieces and we could be an NCAA tourney team.
he recruited Lenzelle Smith (SG) to OSU this year, not sure if he’d follow him here:
EDIT***scout profile shows he’s signed his LOI
Note he also played AAU ball for Team NLP, coincidence???

Among those uncommitted is 6-8 SG Chris Hill of Christian Faith Center Academy in Raleigh. Rivals rates him a 3-star.

Rivals.com: Chris Hill
6’8 SG, could you imagine he and Sirin on the court? Yowzas
what is his coach style? Lutz = jack up threes.
When is late signing period start? Hopefully, Major will have something up his sleeve to help with a couple of recruits in late signing period. I agree that we may not get another opportunity to get a player from Clemson or Wake with new coaches.
Anyone have ideas on assistant coaches?
with all of the coaches getting fired, there are a lot of kids asking out of their letter of intent. ben brust just got out of his loi from iowa and that center derosias got out of his from wake forest.
Some intriguing players that I’ve been reading about the past few days include:
[ul] [li]Melsahn Basabe, Freshman, PF 6-7/220, ESPN rating = 89 (released from NLI by Siena)[/li]
[li]Gilvydas Biruta, Freshman, PF 6-8/225, ESPN rating = 91 (requested/awaiting release from NLI by Rutgers)[/li]
[li]Brady Heslip, RS-Freshman, PG 6-2/165, ESPN rating = 91 (transferring from BC - will have 4 years of eligibility)[/li][/ul]
Speaking of Rutgers, reading that Mike Rosario is looking at Florida, Kansas State, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
And that reminds me that another former Rutgers player, 6-5 G Earl Pettis, will be eligible at La Salle in 2010-11 after sitting out this past season.
Does anyone have news from what the new staff did this weekend trying to fill a few holes? I know it is a longshot at this point, but hopefully we can get a couple of the guys that are getting out of the LOI.
