NY Times and Fort Mill?

Don’t know how this article originated. We are a long way from Manhattan. Good for my home value.

:wow: Wow, how did that get on their radar? I have known of some good investments in Baxter. My wife wants to move there.

I took my kids to the school in Baxter this morning. Great developement, sort of similar to Birkdale.

another tidbit, former 49er standout 3rd baseman Andy Bovender and wife owns the “Six Pence Pub” in Baxter. Its a hotspot. Its a replica of a British pub

You should check out Sutton Place (directly behind Baxter). My wife and I built here 4 years ago and we love it. The lots are a little bigger than what you will find in most of Baxter and you are still close enough to enjoy all of the perks.

I work uptown and my commute from door to door on most days is 25-30 minutes…
Many of the people moving to the area are part of the overflow from the tight real estate market in several areas of Charlotte, looking for good public schools and plenty of new construction, as well as from other parts of the country.
In SC? Really?
In SC? Really?
the avg SAT at Fort Mill High School was 1064 last year. Its the best school district in the state.

Fort Mill high is consistently ranked as a top public school in America.

I’m not saying FM isn’t good compared to the rest of the state, but doesn’t SC usually rank near the bottom in public schools nation wide?

Yes Kevin. It’s sad, but Fort Mill High is better than most of the CharMeck schools.

And I wish I had enough scratch back when Baxter was being built to buy in. I knew it was gonna take off.

did you know “Jack at Night” does his 106.5 broadcast just outside your neighborhood, from his house?

true, the poor parts of SC (mostly low country) are in bad shape. In fact I think Barrack Obama and John Edwards are campaigning this week along I-95’s corridor where the poor folks mainly are.

Irmo, Greenville, and Fort Mill are far above national averages

SAT is out of 2400 now ain’t it?

SAT is out of 2400 now ain't it?

Yep, three sections of 800 points.

according to the wiki chart and from College Board numbers under the old 1600 system 1064 would be in the 58th percentile and under the new 2400 system it would be in the 15th percentile.

true, the score I gave you was on the “old scale” (1600 perfect score)

the new test gives a 3rd leg for writing. haven’t seen those results.

I did see this one where the Fort Mill ACT score is 21.7 (natl avg 21.2)

yes, but from what I’ve heard, most colleges still just focus on the reading and math sections.

You said last year though. Didn’t the old one stop being used in Jan 2005?

from the link I gave you:
Fort Mill High students who took the SAT college entrance exam in 2004-05 averaged 1,064, which is higher than the national average of 1,028.

Gotcha.

I coach quiz bowl at Robinson, and Fort Mill’s team has creamed us on several occasions. They won the tournament we hosted about a year and a half ago.

S.C. has some really bad public schools, but their schools in more suburban areas tend to be very good. Another great example is Dorman HS, located just south of Spartanburg.
Gotcha.
actually, just found this site too
http://ed.sc.gov/topics/assessment/scores/sat/2006/index.html

in 2006 Fort Mill went up to a (SAT 1083) #2

Riverside (in Greer) was #1 for non magnets

so I guess 2007 is the new scale
