Wow! That’s some great stuff. Well done.
I also like the way Calvin is training (not that I’m an expert on boxing). Secluded area and “training” facility, no distractions and brought in the 6’6" canadian heavyweight champion to spar with.
Got to add, The FRONT PAGE of the paper top banner includes a lead-in to the story with picture of Brock.
he is pretty outmatched in terms of size. I’m assuming he’s probably a lot quicker?
he is pretty outmatched in terms of size. I’m assuming he’s probably a lot quicker?
Yes, although he was pretty stagnant in the last fight. The article said he has worked on getting quicker and lighter for the fight. Now at 229, trainer wants 224. If he can stick and move, he’ll be fine.
Knock his lights out Cal!!!

Missed this last week when it was posted.
Good stuff.
New Sorenson/Observer article: http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/15966462.htm
His trainer (quoted from article):
“But this is the wrong fighter for him. Wladimir is in a class by himself. Wladimir Klitschko would be a problem right now for Ali, for Lennox Lewis (whom Steward trained), for anybody. The man is too big and too fast and too explosive.”
Now, say what you will about beating Brock if you’re his trainer… But ALI???
Completely delusional statement.
I know he’s trying to talk up his boxer and the fight, but that borders ridiculous.

Man…I know guys are supposed to talk up their fighters…but that is just crazy! I could name 10 plus fighters in the past 15 years that would eat Wladimir’s lunch. Thowing out names like Ali is just stupid!
Not to look ahead any, but if by chance Brock were to win a title…His next opponent could very well be Shannon Briggs…the guy who was supposed to get Wladimir first.
Briggs boxed everyone to sleep last week and ended up knocking out Heavyweight Champion Sergi Liakhovich to win the WBO title. Both fighters are absolute bums…and I would have much rather seen Brock and Briggs change fights.
But if Brock can get by Wladimir…he could set up a unification bout with Briggs…and odds would certainly be in his favor.
Corrie Sanders
Lamon Brewster
Two chumps that flattened (pretty much literally) Klitschko whom would never beat Brock. Knowing that I would never make a comparison with any of the greats.
I think Brock is going to take it. He’s ready and the champ is a commie who killed Apollo.
Two more articles today and front page photo of the weigh-in. The Observer is covering this as a major event.

I’m not feeling good about this one. Brock looks overmatched…but really looking forward to this weekend.
Klitschko reminds me of Dolph Lundgren. “I will break you.”
I’m thinking Klitschko is going to manhandle Brock, but I hope not.
Klitschko looks like one the inept russian mobsters chasing around Elwood Blues in Blues Brothers 2000.
I was hoping for a little more of the “I will brrreak you” Drago look. THAT I could hate!

Huh? The same paper that most people here have bashed for not doing any stories on Brock? Imagine that.
The bottom line is that up until this fight, Brock hasn’t had a fight that warranted any coverage. Now that he’s actually facing someone with credibility, it is getting the press it deserves. No one cares about the fights he had to get to this point. But this one is the one that could put him on top of the boxing world. But unfortunately, I agree that Brock is overmatched in this one. I’d love to see him win the title but he’s gonna have to fight a perfect fight. I just hope it’s a good fight from a spectator’s perspective. More often that not, heavyweight fights are pretty boring but hopefully we can get some good action in this one.

And like I said before, criticize when deserved but give credit when earned. He was a title contender when he fought in his hometown and it got very little coverage. That was the beef with that.
I just got an email back from Sorensen (says he’s loving the hype, btw):
consensus among experts up here is that wladimir wins. but give brock this
– he is treating the event the same way he would treat a fight at grady cole center or lowe’s motor speedway. there’s no difference, except he is enjoying the attention. he’s on jim rome today.
i have to pick the winner for saturday’s column. and i have to be honest, no matter how much flack i get.
I hope the fight gets to the latter rounds, if it does, Brock has a shot. The fight is building some momentum and should get some good pub on Sat night.
