Official NNN 2009 Summer Movie thread

don’t forget about the much anticipated, Alien Trespass!

Wow, that was a bad movie. It was worse than X3.

Just got my tickets for me and the little lady to see Star Trek at the IMax at Stone Crest.

#1, I have never been to an IMax movie so I don’t know what to expect. Anyone got a review of the Stone Crest IMax? Is it worth 2x for the normal tickets?

#2, Should I drop the money to see Wolverine? I have no real complaints about any of the three X-Men movies, but not sure about this one.

#3, I’m hoping that if I like the IMax Star Trek that Transformers 2 comes IMax as well!

wait, wait… there’s an Imax in Charlotte?

for my opinion of Imax Dome, see also http://rjsheridan.blogspot.com/2008/07/do-not-go-see-batman-in-imax-at.html

Just came in from Wolverine - not as good as X1 and X2 but far and away better than X3. The movie had it's high points and a few low points. I have an issue with how some of the characters were used, but I won't go into that because I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone. I will say though that if you go see the movie stay through to the end of the credits. Much like X3 and Ironman there is a scene at the end that you need to see.

I read the samething about not being as good as X1 and X2, largely b/c those two movies revealed the basis for his backstory, making seeing him burst from the admantium chamber less dramatic, etc.

If you know nothing at all about the comic books, and I mean nothing, it isn’t going to bother you. I have no problem with taking liberties with a series, but it was just silly the things they did.

As far as is X-men Origins good? Well, it was mediocre. It was probably a better movie than the 3rd one, the action was worse but the story was more cohesive. They are both a blight on the series though.

I saw State of Play last night. Has a pretty strong rating on RT. I thought it was worth the ticket price, and fairly well acted, but you feel every minute of its run time. It was an intrigue thriller that let you off the edge of your seat too often.

Disagree. Although it had its flaws (especially b/w Wolverine and Sabretooth and their backstories.)
-It was one of the most visually stunning movies I’ve seen (the last battle was nuts!)
-Plus this needed to happen with how much they touched upon it in X2 and I think they did a good job.

Saw Star Trek last night and WOW! It is a very good movie. Just the right amount of humor, excellent job of honoring the orig characters, but allowing the new actors to make them their own. The action was full throttle from the start and it was visually stunning. Story wise it was very interesting and the impact it has to the Star Trek universe. Overall I say thumbs on ST - great movie!

Star Trek was a solid, solid movie. I have low expectations for T4 and GI Joe, so ST imo is the odds on favorite for best movie of this season.

Gi Joe & Transformers 2. Probably T4.

I loved Star Trek but the best movie of the Summer is going to be Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.

This pretty much off topic - but I finally saw Frost/Nixon tonight.

Frank Langella did an amazing job as Nixon. Humanized him - his strengths and his failures. Supposedly, the Oliver Stone fil Nixon does a better job of it, but Langella was really good.

Star Trek is incredible. Wasn’t filmed for IMAX so definitely wouldn’t matchup to The Dark Knight but it might be a pretty good experience. For whoever asked, there are 2 IMAX theaters in Charlotte. Discovery Place and at Stonecrest down in Pineville. Discovery Place doesn’t play R rated movies, but I saw TDK there and it was incredible…best movie experience I’ve ever had. Terminator and Transformers are also being released in IMAX. I think Transformers is shot with IMAX cameras. T4 is definitely not because McG sacrificed shooting in IMAX for using a special type of film to give the movie a different look.

I definitely recommend seeing Star Trek…all-around great movie, and this is coming from someone who absolutely despised ST before this movie. Never got into it…but this movie is an enjoyable, well-acted, brilliantly cast action movie.

Saw the IMax Star Trek at Stonecrest and it was great. Not worth $15 a ticket but I plan to see Transformers 2 at Stonecrest.
Okay, but the Machinist, can anyone defend that movie? It was god awful terrible, horrible bad.
I thought Machinist, Batman Begins and 3:10 to Yuma were all pretty amazing, especially the acting. I’m pretty sure you’re in the minority on all of them…

christian bale may be a douche…it’s up for debate. but he’s a brilliant actor, IMO

I loved Star Trek but the best movie of the Summer is going to be Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.

I have trouble putting Transformers in the same category as ST because the writing is so much weaker. I’ll watch it and thoroughly enjoy it, but it’s really just a mindless action flick with a retarded hot lead actress.

Not a summer movie, but I just found out they were making this movie so I am pretty amped about it. Probably the most jarring book i’ve ever read in my life.

Here’s the trailer to The Road

Not mentioned yet, but August 14th, Ponyo on the Cliff comes out. It is Hayo Miyazaki’s newest flick.

Well I am 3 for 3 on big summer movies! Saw Angels and Demons last night. It was very entertaining. I have not read the book, I had read the Davinci Code,.

I am sure there are some issues people have that read the book, but I found it enjoyable. One of the big scenes towards the end of the movie was really cool! So here is my 2099 Summer Movie ranking thus far:

1 - Star Trek
2 - Angels and Demons
3 - Wolverine
