Official Stadium Construction Thread 🏟

Did anyone else notice on the post card/invitation to the groundbreaking that the note mentioned that (not verbatim, I dont have it with me) the “complex” was scheduled for completion in August, 2012 (not 2013) and specifically mentioned that this would allow the team to practice at the facility for 12 months before the first game? If this is correct, I assume maybe they are referring to the fieldhouse and practice fields with the rest of the stadium to still be complete by August 2013.

Could the fh and practice fields be ready in 14-15 months? I assume it was not a typo since it mentioned the full year of practice before the 1st game. Anybody have any insight?

Could be accurate that the whole thing will be finished. It is my understanding that the stadium itself will be ready to go for our first spring game in 2013, which would mean completion of the complex in the fall of 2012.

It looked like they had about a third of the brick walkway between Rec Fields 8 and 9 tore up today. I also noticed this morning a load of used bricks being dumped over by the Belk Tower where they’re replacing the concrete walkways from Rowe to McEniry with brick. They’re likely mixing in the old bricks with the new there.

Jones said his office expects to start taking bids for the stadium project in early 2011, with construction to begin by April of that year. The completion date is projected for July 2012.

I have a list of milestones on my wall at work, and it says the Fieldhouse opens the Summer of 2012.

Is it listed as “Fieldhouse”? I hate that term, sounds small. Hope its “Football Center” instead. The building goes in first cause we already have coaches needing offices. Practice fields are next cause they start practice in August of next year. Stadium itself, playing field, concessions and bathrooms can wait for completion in Spring/early Summer 2013.

Now all that stuff can/could be going on at the same time and that wouldn’t hurt my fellings none! Lots of trees to cut down for the practice fields.

Field level is going to be 25 feet below existing grade. They are taking that dirt and using it to fill the areas for the practice fields. This will probably be one of the first things they do since the field house will be at field level. You are right that plenty of trees need to be cleared first.

25’ below the existing grade on the LOWER FIELD?

I beleive it is 25" below the upper field level or the existing parking lot elevation. The concourse will be at that elevation and field level will be 25’ below that.

Football Center sounds very BCS. Fieldhouse sounds very Division III. Let’s aim higher.

Agreed

Well said good sir, well said.

All of the light poles on (former?) Rec Fields 8 and 9 were down as of this morning.

If you build it, they will come!
