OT: USNews Rankings Fall Again - #31 Universities-Master's (South)

I Here would be my standards for admission.

Minimum SAT 950.
Minimum High School GPA 2.8 weighted, 2.5 non weighted

After 10 years, I would look to see if possible raise the standards to 1000 and a 3.0 weighted, 2.8 non weighted.

Are you serious? Our admissions are that low? Those are community college standards…

From the admissions page:

Either they changed the scale or someone is on crack. What percentiles do those range of scores represent?

Either they changed the scale or someone is on crack. What percentiles do those range of scores represent?

Must be the crack…Just kidding. The SAT is worth 2400 points now. They added a writing section that is worth 800 points on top of the test we are all used to.

Supposedly, a 1600 is now a mediocre score. I’m not sure what the equivalent score was on the old SAT.

So I’m looking in this News & Report stuff, it seems as though if you come out with an MBA from Charlotte you will make less than you would if you got an MBA from NC State, UNC-CH, Wake, Elon, and Queens.

At least we didn’t get a ranking like Warren Wilson College down the road…

Check it out:

Former UNC Charlotte vice chancellor Doug Orr just retired as president of Warren Wilson in May.
I think the model we should follow is UC-Irvine. It was founded in 1965 and it’s quite prestigious already (a top 50 school). It has great relations with the city it’s in, and contributes much to the region.
I live 10 min. from UC Irvine and was actually looking at their MBA program recently. There program gets a top 50 ranking…But it seems to be about the same as UNC Charlottes program. If I remember Correctly the GMAT scores are very close to the same. I think the reason they get a better review might be the fact that they have a large medical research center. The medical industry is huge in Orange County and I think this is a big draw for them. Despite all this… they still are overshadowed by UCLA and USC.

All in all though we have nothing to be ashamed of. UNC Charlotte beats out the California state schools hands down. None of the State schools have any phd programs. None of Cal state schools have separate colleges either…ie Belk College of Business.

I really didn’t realize how well our school compares until I started looking around at grad schools. Sure we can stand to improve in areas… but we do have a great school and can compete nationally.

UC Irvine girls > UNC Charlotte girls

hands down…

Why is UNCC so low here? Did they give reasons?

ironically we are tied with ksu.

but what has happened to our business program?

Admissions standards will not increase as long as we are trying to grow the school.

There should be growth, but it should be tappered with a long term strategy. Personally it appears that we are growing just to grow.

If that is the case then add a student fee into everything to get a football team rolling along.

What is the graduation rate of the losers we’re bringing?

What is the graduation rate of the losers we're bringing?
My teacher in my econ class has spent 2 days talking about this. He said that 52% of the freshman class will graduate from here in 6 or less years. 8% will transfer and graduate from another university in the same amount of time. I don't know if this is soley a figure for our students however.
Admissions standards will not increase as long as we are trying to grow the school.
This makes no sense. We rank 14th out of 16 in per student funding. Yet, Dr. Phil is determined to continue this path of constant growth. Is this not going to put us further behind?

Don’t worry the PhD in bus. admin. is starting this semester… This will give us a HUGE bump up. Basically, colleges w/PhD programs trump all those without.

I say let growth only come with academic quality, else raise the fees and at least get a football team out of it… definitely not growth that hurts academics and still does not give us football.

I had rather emphasize future growth on post graduate curriculums.

maybe a school of journalism too, so we can have us some sports editors like chapel hill does.
