OT: VG

I won’t disagree with you on that PI, but this was going on before Demon even knew Vince. Go look back at the South Mecklenburg days, Vince was kicked off that team for multitudes of reason, but primarily his attitude.

One big difference between Demon and Vince was that Demon was willing to play where Coach put him, 1 or 2 he didn’t care. Vince wanted to be a 2 because he felt that was his NBA position.

I could see why some guys could get annoyed with Demon because he was brash and cocky like Vince, but Demon played and practiced hard. He was always the first to practice shooting extra jump shots and any problems with other players were never open aire like it was between Vince and Cal. This was something that brewed for an entire season, that everyone knew about and errupted with punches.

I caught wind that Cal and Vince argued all year who was tougher and would win in a fight. Maybe Clemmons wasn’t as cool headed and is just as much to blame. Being a fourth year junior he probably could have handled the situation better.

If Grier had the jumper here he now has at Minnesota, Lutz have played him at center if he wanted to, I’ll guarantee that.

Two guard isn’t just Grier’s NBA position, it should be his college position. Taller than most two guards, but doesn’t lack the speed or quickness, arms of a guy 6’9"

Like I said, Vincent Grier is no Plavich.

This is true and maybe people wouldn’t be so hard on VG if he hadn’t laid out Calvin. Had Cal dropped Vince some may be singing a different tune. Either way it takes two to tango and Cal certainly was as much at fault for letting it go as far as it did.

Lot of guys on the team did not like Vince

We can thank Demon for a lot of that. He took VG under his wing and that was Grier’s first mistake. Demon had him in a bar fight before the first game.

Those same players didn’t like Demon either but it didn’t stop him from playing here.

I thought VG started the bar fight? That was the story an observer of the fight posted on the old board.

Originally posted by LeftyNiner@Jan 14 2005, 06:53 PM Normmm, he is actually playing the 2 now and wanted to do that here..since his only chance ot play pro ball is at the 2. He takes a lot of shots and is their go-to guy. He's not an ideal 2 for our system, although I could have seen him develop into it. Bennett/Alexander will most likely be the 2 next year and they're jump shooters, not necessarily "3-pt shooters".
I was talking about in our system. Vincent wants to play the 1. The 2 games of Minn I saw he brought the ball up the court half of the time. He was a different style of player for Bobby's system. The 3's he hit were not from running around screens, like our 2's do. They gave him the ball and let him create his own shot.

But none the less:

BP - 42% 3pt
VG - 37% 3pt

I don’t dislike VG. I wished it could of worked out. But I also don’t blame the coaches for going with the guys they went with. I wish VG would have stuck it out and he probably would have started his JR year.

I agree with that. I wish he would have stuck around...matured and helped us win some more games. He was a cocky freshman, the coaches explained what they saw for him in the future and he decided to leave.

And someone mentioned chemistry being overrated. I think that’s far from the truth in college basketball. If guys don’t believe in eachother/like eachother, there’s no way you’re going to get through the tough times. And in our situation, we’re never going to have superior overall talent. We have to have the right combination of guys to be really successful.

Alexander will hopefully play the 3. If he plays the 2, who would play the 3, Curt?

I certainly hope EJ doesn’t start over De’Angelo, from what I saw of Alexander, he’s a lot stronger defensive presence and easily as good as or a better scorer.

EJ(3) and Alexander(2) starting together is what I meant- Curt at the 4. But, I didn’t think Alexander will start or play that much at the 2(Bennett).

I would think you start Mitch, Bennett, De’Angelo, Curt and nance.

I like the sound of that line up PB.

That get my vote also. We’re going to be loaded at the 3.

It’s amazing, as good as this team has the potential to be, next year could be even better.

Nance can only get better after a year in the system, Bennett probably knows this team better than any player on it (save Eddie), De’Angelo has proven himself a big time player in a big conference and it looks more and more like Curt will probably be back next year.

Mitch will get most of his growing pains out of the way with a year under his belt as the starting PG and Leemire’s game will be more refined.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying next year this or that, I know this team is still capable of special things, but next year’s team may be our most talented team ever.

I don’t expect much out of Coleman his first year, but he could be big off the bench, Mullis will hopefully provide some solid minutes and Jarrell will be good for spoting our backcourt.

Lutz may not be getting the guys he wants, as some posters have noted, but he’s getting some pretty awesome talent here. I am not a huge opponent of the JuCo and transfer route, because it is paying off for us now. We’ll have so much talent and experience next year it’s not even funny. I just hate that we have to lose a guy with as much talent, drive and will to succeed as Eddie. That’s why he’ll just have to get it done this year, and win it all for us.

Yeah, we’ll be loaded with athletes next year. If Iti and Withers stay which it looks like they will and Alexander and Bennett step up to ā€œreplaceā€ Eddie, we’ll be a very dangerous team. Although, losing Eddie is going to REALLY HURT!!! The trio of Alexander/Drayton/Coleman may be enough. Withers will have to be the man next year.

The only thing I see missing is a proven scoring option at the 2. Bennett should be a good player, but I’m not sure he can put up 12-14 per game.

Plus we have one 'ship left for another player or CJ.

I have never seen Bennett play outside of Midnight Madness, where he was absolutely sickening, and two pick up games with other guys from the team.

He torched Eddie in one pick up game so bad, I think my jaw is still stuck to the floor.

According to members of the team, Bennett’s overall game is undeniable, he can score and is a good defender. He has an outside shot, but loves to attack the rim. Sort of like Leemire, only a lot better. Bennett is a guy who wants to go to the NBA, I don’t know if his game is that good, but one can only hope.

I’ve seen Alexander in 3 games, and all of them he was awesome. He may end up being one of the best players to wear a niner uniform.

Ok, then I have no concerns. Go ahead and hang the national champions banner tonight.

btw, one of best Niner ever prediction for Alexander is almost as solid as my best Niner shooter ever for Plavich.

I think I’m still high from the UAB win.
