I know they traded their first round, but did they put any restrictions on it? I know sometimes teams do a thing where if the pick is a top 10 pick, then it moves to the next year. The Panthers are probably looking at a top 10 pick.
No restrictions. We don’t have a 1st rounder this year even if it’s the top pick. Actually, the top pick is a curse most of the time, because you have to pay the guy a ton of money and he may be a total bust. The last time a #1 pick actually resulted in making a franchise much, much better for a long-term period was Peyton Manning in 1998. For every Peyton Manning there is a Tim Couch, Alex Smith, David Carr and Jamarcus Russell. Guys like Mario Williams and Jake Long are All-Pro caliber players, but aren’t franchise turning around type of guys. So at least we won’t have that curse… Sigh…

Eli Manning was #1. But you are right… It is a high risk that usually doesn’t pan out
That is only in the NBA... Marty Hurney is a complete idiot for this move and should be fired... With the bye week looming I'd love to see a shake up.
Meeks is terrible. The game plan is awful- the team can’t make adjustments let alone tackle. How many time does Choice or Jones have to hit that draw for 9+ before you figure it out? In a off season of failures, hiring Meeks seems to be one of the biggest.
Davidson is ill prepared to be a OC in the NFL. His game plans are horrid. The offensive line has taken 10 steps back.
The entire organization needs a shake up from the top down- I hope we see wholesale changes fromt eh GM down after this season.
Panthers in 2009: 0-8
I think we’re heading in that direction. This team doesn’t even look like they’re trying anymore. Running Kris Jenkins out of town was a huge mistake. He is a total stud and we never replaced him. Free agency this year is going to be huge for us. We should have some cap-space and be able to shore up the defense. However, quarterback is a huge gaping hole for us and it can take years to find a long-term solution there and unless we do, we are going to be in big trouble for a while.

Peppers needs to go- from a cap space and mental aspect- addition by attraction. Why is the 1mill per game stud standing on the sidelines during the last Coqwboy drive that resulted in a FG? I really dislike him because he has no passion for this team.
I’d offer the Browns pennies on the dollar for Brady Quinn once they bench him.
10 passes and 5 runs in the 3rd quarter, which we started with a 7-0 lead. 11 carries for Deangelo for the entire game. Criminal. Peppers $500,000 per tackle, Everette, SF-is-laughing-themselves-to-death, Brown’s face on a milk carton…
I want to fire Fox and Hurney, but I dont want to knee jerk. Cowher is only appealing if you get quality coordinators. He’s a motivator, not an X’s & O’s guy.
Sign and trade Peppers, hopefully for a 1st rounder. Next year’s NFL draft is loaded with 1st round caliber DTs. (Gerald McCoy - OK, N. Suh - Nebraska, Terrance Cody - Bama, Marvin Austin - UNCCH, etc) Get one. Kemo will be a FA. Don’t overpay. Get Cowher under Charles johnon’s rear to become an impact player at DE. Draft quality depth everywhere else (more Ryan Khalil type value picks). Stop reaching for needs. Give Matt Moore some more snaps with the 1st team. I dont love Jake, but he’s not our top problem.
If we get Chris Harris back 100%, and with his head right, plus some more quality DL, some depth to help with fatigue and special teams, and an easier schedule, we’ll be okay.
BTW, Moose has one more year left, tops. He is really slowing down. I love his run blocking but he’s offsetting that as a non factor in the passing game. Need to start giving his heir apparent some snaps.

How is Brady Quinn the answer? The same way David Carr was the answer? Gotta find someone I suppose.
Nobody has mentioned having two kickers on the roster. If Kasay can’t kick off, he needs to be out of the league. We don’t need to waste money and an active roster spot on a 2nd kicker. Somehow we can manage to sign a 2nd kicker but couldn’t land a backup for Kemo in the offseason.

I really don’t mind that becasue they both do their job well… They are 2 of about 8 guys on the roster who can say thet week in and week out.

Pay attention to this post, because it's 100% correct. Cowher is good at motivating and delegating (he does bring in good assistants) but at this point of his life, you really have to question whether he can bring the intensity like he used to. I saw a different man on the sidelines after he won the Super Bowel. He looked content for the first time in his life, which is a bad thing. I still have a very high opinion of him, but should Fox get fired and they bring Cowher in, consider yourselves warned.

Loyd makes $460k. Not going to get much of a DT with $460k.

Nope… thank you.

I have to say when the trade first went down, I was a little irritated by SF’s motives. I doubt they forsaw Carolina’s collapse but I guess they realized they were a bit better than any talent they could pick up in last year’s second round. Needless to say, I didn’t think so either. As for Carolina’s current direction, and SF holding their 1st round pick, I hope they net the Niners the third pick. First pick is usually 10% boom, 90% bust, but usually that stuff gets weeded out by the third pick.
