I would put Xavier in the Top 15 of BBall programs right now…(In no particular order, just as I thought of them.)
1 Kansas
2 North Carolina
3 Duke
4 Kentucky
5 Michigan State
6 Ohio State
7 Syracuse
8 UConn
9 UCLA
10 Arizona
11 Texas
12 Louisville
13 Florida
14 Pitt
15 Xavier
Pretty hard to argue with the top 8 or so. In Xavier’s range, 10-20, they’re more interchangeable.
Surprised you of all people left off Nova.
Michigan and Indiana are down now. But are easily the 2 biggest sleeping giants.
Have said for years that Wake is the most over rated school in the country.

I don’t think Wake is overrated per se, I think it’s more a case of the ACC being overrated. Duke & UNC-Ch are elite programs, but that’s it. Wake, Maryland, GT are decent but the big two seem to elevate their status for some reason.
I think Dino is a mediocre coach too, but no way X > Wake unless you’re just going by the last three years. They have eight elite eights in their history compared to X’s two.
They’ll probably fire Dino after next year and hire Mack.
As I wrote in another thread, it is hard to argue against the fact that Xavier is a top 15 program in college basketball right now.
They are somewhere up there. Wake still has greater resources and a more rich history. Long term I would still put my money on them.
How about the Zags? 12 straight tournament appearances. Rank them above X?
Judy: Pat, I am pleased to introduce you to Johnny Harris.
Pat: Mr. Harris, I’m pleased to meet you.
Johnny: Uh, Coach, it’s Johnny, not Mr. Harris. It’s great to have you here in Charlotte. I hope you and Judy can settle that paper work stuff. I’ve got an open spot on my ProAm team for our tournament in a couple of weeks. I would love to have you join my team. But we can work out the details later. You and I are expected on the 1st tee. Let’s get going.
Pat: Thank you Johnny. Judy, I’ll catch up with you later. Ok?
Johnny: (speaking on iPhone) Mac? Coach Kelsey and I are on our way to Quail Hollow. We’ll meet you on the 1st tee.
Johnny listens quietly.
Johnny: (still on iPhone) Of course I did that Mac. His wife is at Southpark right now. Also, Pat prefers Ruth’s Chris, so I changed the reservation. But we are still meeting at 7:00PM.
Johnny (hands Pat a small card): Here is my direct number. Call me if you got questions about stuff around here. I have a pretty good track record about getting stuff done.

In the last decade, Xavier has been a much better program then Wake Forest. MUCH BETTER!!

except for that part where Johnny wants Buzz Peterson. I wish the above would be how it goes, though.

I guess that’s kind of my point. They’re similar to ND in football. Every preseason they’re ranked. Then by the end of the season they fall. I’m not saying they’re garbage. But they just seem to always finish lower than they’re predicted to finish. Or as high as the players they’ve had. Paul, Justin Gray, Teague, James Johnson, Duncan, Aminu, Josh Howard, Eric Williams.

Johnny Harris has a vested interest in the entire sports landscape here in Charlotte, and that includes us.
If Pat Kelsey is indeed the guy that will give us the greatest chance of success (and I believe that he is) then I’d be willing to bet Johnny Harris gets behind him 100%.
Not knowing Butler’s success like stated. Also, didn’t people talk about their coach coming here possibly? Why would their coach come here? Is Charlotte head coach job better than Butler head coach job? $$$ ?
