Gaber just extended hillâŚso not sure if shes any different
Bobby got fired because Phil and Judy hated him and he had done poorly long enough that they had a performance excuse to move on. No conspiracy there.
I do think the mothership and BoG make things difficult on us at a strategic level and a funding level. The name change is a good example. Has to be approved at the legislative level and I was told that was DoA not worth spending political capital on for a losing cause.
The everyday day issues of the university such as poor communication or engagement and the failure of sports programs is entirely on us. Blaming chapel hill for our failures is a convenient excuse that makes us feel better because itâs the boogie man instead of acknowledging our own failure.
Anyway - letâs shock people - us included and win Saturday.
Ironically, I saw Bobby and Judy talking in the parking lot while I was walking into the football game last Saturday.
Itâs not irony. I donât believe Judy or anyone else hated Bobby. Bobbyâs time had come and gone. His recruiting and winning ways were on the decline. I think it has been hard for him to move past, but it would be for anybody.
I love Bobby and spoke to him and Fearne at the game Saturday.
I love Bobby and Fearneâs friendship!! Itâs great for Niner basketball!
It was great having Bobby at the tailgate Saturday. He did say it was the first time Leemire had been back on campus since he left. Also loved having Eddie hang out with us.
I think I inserted Bobbyâs name in this thread. It was only intended as a time marker and when we seemed to move away from being focused on winning and more on image. Not a Bring Back Bobby campaign.
Regarding the med school, our leadership was told to âstand downâ by the UNC system. This was never advertised in a large forum but did happen. Dubois pushed hard, was prepared, made the compelling argument but was shut down by UNC system leadership.
Personally, I think Dubois should have fought harder, but why? He had a good life and good job. He was told, UNC will take it from here and we were forced to stand down under threat.
Regarding graduate students and their lack of involvement, I completely agree. However, in relation to the holistic approach it makes a difference. It gives undergrads a sense of pride knowingwe haveamed school, etc., raises the perception of our university, and also stimulates the environment for donations.
Universities with med schools have higher prestige. Itâs a fact! It better positions us for advancements.
To think the UNC system, influenced by Chapel Hill, is not a factor is sheer ignorance. They cannot shut down everything, nor do they want to. They just want to put a governor on our growth, relevance and prestige.
Itâs amazing what we have accomplished while being restricted in so many significant areas. I just think we have too many passive, naive alums and I include myself on that list.
This is what it all boils down to. NIL didnât fuck our basketball program. Judy and Mike did.
Dude Judy retired 7 years ago. Let your hatred go. You will feel better I promise.
Dude, Judy killed our basketball program and left us with a 6 win team when she âretired.â Sheâs going to have to wear that as part of her legacy here.
She doesnât have anything to do with this team, but every team, coach, player since then has been trying to dig out of the huge hole she left us in.
So guess all the tournament appearances during her tenure are irrelevant? The new arenas and stadium, football, etc etc donât count towards her legacy?
She did far more for this program than any of the haters want to admit. Blaming her at this point just shows the eternal hate some on this board wonât let go of.
Like I said, let the hate go. You will feel better
People can do both good at bad things. Judy did a good job getting facilities built.
But she also made bad coaching hires after deviating from a successful coaching tree she inherited. By the time she left the basketball program was a shell of itself. It needed an immediate successful hire and unfortunately Mike failed. Now itâs a husk rotting on fallow ground.
I donât care to continue Judy bashing, but itâs undeniable the decline started under her watch. This program was still a very desirable job when we fired Lutz. We could have hired just about any mid major or low major head coach at that point in time because we would have been a big step up in prestige from a recent success/conference perspective. A place coaches could see as a place they could go win. Instead, she hired a beta boy down the bench assistant coach. An obedient dog.
By the time her second hire was done, this place was a laughing stock. Iâm amazed we even got a top assistant like Sanchez to take the job.
Judy was a good steward of relationships with the university, and frankly (sadly) a better fundraiser than Mike has proven to be.
But she was a bad evaluator of coaching talent.
I said that killing the basketball program is PART of her legacy. There are other good and bad things that are PART of her legacy too.
The commissioner of CUSA 1.0 told Judy in the 1990s to start a football program since that would drive everything sooner than later. Judy told him we did not need football to be successful and that was the start of the downfall of Charlotte sports. We did well in basketball till Lutz was gone and it has been downhill since.
She only had a few big donors that kept the building going in Dale Halton mainly. We complain that Mike cannot fundraise, but we are asking people to give to the Evergreen fun, NIL, tixs, the new campus wide fund, etc. There is only so much money to go around, plus most companies have seen a big slowdown over past 2-3 years.
We made the tournament in spite if her, not because of her. We got football in spite of her. She didnt want it. She was terrible
Iâm afraid youâre talking to deaf ears. Some on here are gonna blame Judy for global warming. No sense in wasting time trying to be rational.
At least she left us in a great spot with Mark Price and a 1-11 football team who canât make money off of stadium name rights
