You know, comparing those two box scores, the glaring difference is 3pt shooting for us. Pfeiffer shot almost the exact same % for the game in both years (and our guards got smoked as badly), but we simply didnt hit the 3’s this year, so the margin was narrower.

Mitch was much more offensively productive too. But they were running 2 guys at him and our other points all last night, which I dont remember them doing last year.

FTs sucked both years. 20 of 40 and 23 of 43.

Clearly our team is different this year. Much slower paced, much more defensively focused. And clearly without a strong 3pt shooter. I know DA can shoot the 3 better than he did last night but still…

I think this is a great year to make the transition into the A10 because this is the kind of ball this conference likes to play.

We took 65 shots last year compared to 60 this year. 43 FTA this year, compared to 40 last year… I respectfully disagree. We’re just less efficient shooting the longball.

I cant draw a conclusion on our interior defense being improved because of the ridiculous height advantage we had. We had 12 blocks this year versus 11 last year. Nice effort, but inconclusive.

However, my eyes told me that our guards were smoked as badly as last year. We MUST fix this, fast.

I was not impressed in the least. This will NOT get it done. Getting POINTS ON THE SCOREBOARD will and we CANNOT SHOOT worth a crap: FTs, 3s, jumpers, WHATEVER!! This was no fun to watch at all. I really appreciate all the preseason attention we’ve gotten, but if we don’t get better REAL fast and take on the mentality of the “hunted” (as opposed to the hunter, as we’ve been in the past in CUSA) and prove how good we can be, we’ll get our asses kicked each time out and by some teams we should NEVER lose to. Having said that, I’m optimistic our coach (who’s looking for a better job, by the way) will get us rolling by mid February for a long run to the Sweet 16 AND BEYOND!!! Se y’all in Indianapolis.

you don’t seem very optomistic. this was an exhibition game. If you thought the 9ers were going to play all out you are wrong. We were playing to half our potential and pfieffer was playing to their full potential because they can’t even remotely stay close to us if they didn’t. If we would have played like it was a game that actually counted we would have demolished them like it was no one’s business. Don’t complain about 3 point shooting. Our main guy who shoots the long ball is out because of a injury to his left thumb. So give it a rest don’t complain about the little things that are easily fixable

your attendance was better.

Leemire played. Just sayin’.

we looked as bad as we did last year, maybe worse.

And, though it may be an exhibition game, looking bad against phiffer still means we’re not very good right now.

FT shooting below 50% is going to kill us again, but Curt is a monster and De’Angelo will be when he stops shooting the 3 ball.

the plus side for leemire was he was perfect from the line. Also marcus and lee should add that much needed depth for that 3 point shooter that we are looking for

I wouldn’t want to see De’Angelo stop shooting the threeball. I like when he shoots the three. But not as much as I like him playing midrange and using his wide frame to score inside when the opportunity presents itself.

It’s a lot like what Tom Crean said about Curtis up-top versus in the paint.

I agree that our shooting was poor but you have to realize this is there first true game playing together with a defense guarding them. There is no chemistry right now and until there is some chemistry they will continue to struggle shooting and getting open shots. The free throw shooting was pitiful and that falls on the players. Free throw shooting is mental.

Last year’s team had basically had five starters returning…Baldwing was basically a 6th starter going into last year’s game with Pffffeifer. This season, we are trying to blend six new guys into the roster, which will take a few games. I wouldn’t be surprised if we drop a couple we shouldn’t lose early in the season. Also, Pfffeifer could probably beat a good number of mid major teams out there, despite their lack of size.
I do agree that the loss of Plavich will hurt much more than we expected. Bennet’s return will definitely help, but we don’t have anyone with Plav’s 25 foot plus range…no way. That is a difference maker.
your attendance was better.
It was ok for an Pfeiffer game but there was no where close to the reported 6500. There might have been 4000. I wish they would cut it out and report the actual attendance.

Just now got around to looking at the box from Wednesday. As others have pointed out, Withers had a monster game shooting and rebounding. What stood out to me though was his 5 turnovers. Were they from fumbling passes or from trying to dribble in the post? I read that the Falcons were collapsing heavily on him, buit that will be the norm this year. I know these may have gone unnoticed against Pfeiffer, but against good teams who can capitalize on these turnovers, they will hurt.

Stepped on the line once, maybe twice, got called for an offensive foul once or twice. Nothing major.

Did get a two handed rebound ripped out of his hands. Pfeiffer kid just made a very good play.

This is EXACTLY the problem with our team, not just this year, but for the last decade. I don’t care if we’re playing the Southern Institute for the Blind…WE SHOULD PLAY 100% FULL EFFORT FOR EVERY GAME! PERIOD! Read the Observer article today on Duke’s preseason game. They have future NBA players all over their roster and they played a Canadian scrap team…BUT THEY WERE DIVING FOR LOOSE BALLS UP BY 50 with 2min TO GO!!!

That is what separates the good teams from the special teams. We will never be a special team until we learn to acquire a real killer instinct.

We have NEVER had it (unless we play Cincy or Louisville) and that’s why we lose to cupcakes each year. It’s the most frustrating thing about following this team.

You may be OK with that “turn-it-on-when-you-want-to” mentality…But I am not from that school at all.

100% effort…100% of the time

It’s called PRIDE…get some

No excuses.

Im with Ktown. DeAngelo was the only one on the team who displayed even the slightest bit of emotion in that game.

You forgot the pass that hit Curt in the back of the head as they were bringing it up. I agree with you guys. Very passive/lackadaisical. We need a floor leader, someone to get things organized on the court. I hope it was just one game.
