Phase 2, New Tennis Building

My dad sent me some info on the new tennis building that’s in the works, I dunno if anyone has seen this already:

UNC Charlotte is going to build a new Tennis Building (lockers, restrooms, etc.) and several new courts.
New Tennis Building, Phase 2, on campus, Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC
Cost Estimate: $4,480,000

Is this being built on the current site of the tennis courts? Or are we clearing more land?

Current site.

where is tennis playing in mean time? Front field courts?

They haven’t torn down all of the courts, there are still a few untouched. I haven’t seen anyone using them though.

I wonder if they will have lights?

4.5 million for tennis but no $500,000 lights for football? WTF?

this is needed much more than a new building. its a travesty that our courts didn’t have lights.

Have you seen some of the girls at the US Open? We need some lights on our tennis courts if some of our ladies will be that beautiful.

I don’t have problem with lights on the tennis court - i just find it hard to believe that if we are spending 4.5 million on tennis we can’t find another half mil for some lights for a sport that people actually care about a little more than tennis.

Different pots of money. Do you donate $500,000 for lights or do you donate $2,000,000 and get your name attached to the tennis facility for the next 20 years?

why are we spending 4.5 million on a sport that doesn’t generate revenue in the first place?

New Tennis Courts – design and construct 12 regulation size tennis courts for intercollegiate competition that will include a 3200sf building for restrooms, locker rooms, storage, coaches’ offices and a conference area. The complex will have court lighting, bleacher seating, fencing and a small parking area serving the complex

EDIT: What’s the story on the $500k football lights? I missed that. Nevermind, just saw the other thread.

Yeah I got that - I just find it hard to believe you can’t find 500,000 for college football lights if you managed to find money for tennis.

Wouldn’t that cancel each other out by having both men’s and women’s tennis?

Its not a male vs female thing. Women use the tennis facility for their sport and thus keeping it in nice order benefits women. That men’s tennis uses it as well is simply bonus. Plus the tennis facility is by far the worst sports facility we have. CLeaning it up helps the program. If we bring, say, Big East officials for a tour do we want them to see our current outbuilding or the shinny new one with chairback seats?

I’ve seen what it looks like… not impressive… but we’ve all been down this road.

Yes, I’ve saw Men’s and Women’s teams practicing out there almost every day.

those courts on frontfield are horrible (at least when i was there)… if they haven’t been resurfaced, they should just be scrapped completely when the new facility opens.
