They have recently resurfaced the front courts. If I remember correctly they even replaced the fence around them.
Yes, I’ve saw Men’s and Women’s teams practicing out there almost every day.
those courts on frontfield are horrible (at least when i was there)… if they haven’t been resurfaced, they should just be scrapped completely when the new facility opens.
Front court, aka The Beach, tennis courts are just for general student use anyway. I don’t think the tennis team even uses them for organized practice.
Yeah I got that - I just find it hard to believe you can’t find 500,000 for college football lights if you managed to find money for tennis.
I think because it’s hard to put your name on the lights. Hopefully people will step up and increase their donations, making more of these amenities possible. Jimmyhate still needs to PM me about getting me to open up my wallet more.
I disagree with this logic that “we’re getting this tennis facility, we can find money for football lights.”
I hope they put some rules in place as far as how you should treat the courts.
As a tennis player, students/people have absolutely destroyed the courts. The casual recreational tennis player treats the courts like dirt. Not only that, it’s very disappointing
to see other people and students use tennis courts as a soccer field, volleyball courts, bike track, skate park, skate rink and any other use other than tennis.
Any thing that irks me is not using the correct shoes on the court. If you’re on a tennis court, use court shoes meaning those with non-marking out-soles. Nothing pisses a tennis player
off more than using the wrong kind of shoes and marking up the court as well as the lines.
Personally I am glad to see this facility being redone. My girlfriend played tennis for Charlotte from 04-07. They had been promising recruits the new facilities starting back in 2002. There were no viable options for seating and the facilities were a joke. Yes it is not a revenue sport for Charlotte but it is something that is important overall for our sports facilities and aestetically it looks 100X better.
Just a thought: Perhaps this facility has been in the works for a while (maybe before 2002 when they were promising recruits new facilities) so this money was being raised and allocated to this cause since before football?
Secondly: Perhaps its significantly cheaper to put up lights for a tennis facility than it is for a football facility.
Bottom line: Charlotte has been known for having world class facilities. We all have been to other universities and taken a look around, and yes, everyone has that “one facility” that may top ours (though thats rare), but all in all I’d challenge any university claiming to have a more well rounded set of facilities than ours. The only facility that isn’t at the upper tier in any conference is our tennis facilities. I’m glad this is being done, and I’m glad it will be lit. If we have one of the nicer facilities around maybe we’ll pull in some of the top recruits - add another top 25 program to our athletic badge of honor and we look just that much sweeter to any conference we want in for Fball and Bball.

Agree 100% at one time we had nice tennis courts at a local community building. Bunch of kids playing roller hockey destroyed the nets and supports to the extent that they just took them down after replacing them several times. Also, could say the same for basketball courts as none of the rims are square b/c of people hanging on the rims. Luckily the local pee wee football team uses the baseball field for practice so the rec dept pays to fix the goals every once in a while.
Any draw ups of what this facility will look like?
Why are we wasting $4.5 mil on new tennis sh*t? Let them play where they are now. They want $4.5 mil, start drawing paying customers, damn it! That $4.5 mil belongs to FB or one of the 3 required Title 9 teams.
Well they’ve already torn out the old courts so too late now.
Where will the tennis team place this year?

Tennis team will play on the new courts for the spring season. The new courts will be done in January and the building in May.
Panning for Gold had a quick picture of it around the 4:27 mark:

That statement is hyperbole. Just not true. Of the 347 schools that play D1 sports, Charlotte overall is solid/adequate mid major in facilities.
Nice post rook!
