Phil Jones the real deal...

Was at about 3/4 of the game tonight and must say, Phil Jones looks like a STUD. This guy is the real deal, not sure what his box score looked like but I would have to say he will be the best Center we have seen at UNCC in a LONG time!

Feeding the ball to Phil will open up plenty of 3pt opportunities for the Guards.

The team looked good and very talented, we will see how it plays out!

5 for 5 on the field 5 rebounds 3 blocks 1 assist in 21 minutes.

I will say he is the best young big guy we’ve had since Withers was a frosh (i dont know if that means anything, though). He could be a similar caliber player as Withers, he definitely has a better feel for the game than I was expecting.

The competition was awful tonight, but big Phil looked confident. He has good moves, moves his feet on D, and goes strong to the basket. I think he is going to be very good.

Off topic, why didn’t Phaler play? Are the athletes just that much better this year? Injury? In trouble? I left with 3mins left, so I don’t know if he got scrub time.

I was very pleased with Phil’s play. He looks like he knows what he’s doing. We have not always been able to say that about our new big men. I also liked the fact we were able to feed him the ball when he was open.

Apparently Phaler wasn’t all in and showed up late for pregame warmups.

UGHH, Last time after an exhibition I remember seeing threads about a certain player who was the real deal.

Nah, in all seriousness, you are correct, he is the real deal. He does so much for the offense, most importantly force teams to pack it in against him thus opening up Lee for 3 ALL DAY. Having Mack or Coley down low with him is like icing on the cake. Bobby commented on his conditioning though, so I hope Preston has him running everyday.

Really? Good, if you show up late, don’t expect to play. I like Phaler, but honestly it’s your senior season, don’t be late for the first game against opposing competition.

being late to pre-grame warmups is so ridiculous I can’t put it into words. Good to see Lutz bench his frail butt.

I must say that after taking my kids trick or treatin, it was a shock to see the score 55-11. I honestly think a Char-Meck HS would fare better so lets all be cautious with Phil/Withers comparisons.

I’m with metro. I saw lots of things I liked but the competition was severely subpar. No one took bad shots and the passing was much better than in the past. However, this team is far more athletic than I imagined. Let’s hope those shots keep dropping because FT shooting is still a concern.

I think this will be the best front court combination in Bobby’s 10 years at Charlotte. IMO, the previous
best frontcourt was the 98-99 trio of Kelvin Price (12pts/6 rebs), Galen Young (14pts/7 rebs) and
Tremaine Gardiner(8 pts, 6 rebs). That was in Lutz’s 1st year as head coach.
Phil Jones, Lamont Mack and Anjuan Wilderness looked really good last night although the opposition
was horrible. And having Coley and Gabby coming off the bench gives us a lot of depth. Also expect
to see a good bit of Charles Dewhurst at the small forward with Anjuan moving over to power forward.
Gabby sure looked polished for a guy who has only been playing organized ball for 3 years,

Are you suggesting Phil Jones is no Martin Iti?

I scoff at this thought.

Just like there is only 1 MJ, there is only 1 Iti. Both were once in a lifetime “talents”

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: great ****ing analogy

these reports sound so damn good i keep pinching myself to make sure i’m not dreaming. can’t wait to see this team in action.

Phil is the anit-Iti?

Is Wilderness the anti-Butter?

Good idea. That keeps us from having to make Eddie comparisons.

And when do they Phil Jones/Malik El-tamer/Chuck Norris lines begin?

Yes

When Phil Jones steps into the paint he doesn’t have to swat the ball away, it goes out of bounds in fear.

That didn’t take long…
