Just see how the worm turns.
I thought the offense was better tonight. Good for the seniors. Shep, Supica and matos were all three much better tonight.
I said earlier in the thread that playing well and winning tonight would be the most āCharlotte thingā ever. EDIT: Correction, i posted that in the game thread.
If he or the team took it personally and thatās why the effort was so much better tonight then, so be it. Iāll take it.
Sanchez didnāt sit much this gameā¦
I noticed that too. He was very animated.
I just got āback on the bus.ā Way to go Niners!
I wasnāt ready to burn the gym down after we lost to ECU (that came after we lost to App), but I was disappointed. I am very pleased that we beat Davidson, but I am not ready to say we are a good team either. I need more data, and our next two games should both be wins. A&T (2-7) and George Washington (1-5) are both the perfect kind of OOC opponents that should allow us to play deep into the bench giving players game experience, and still win the game. Of course I would have said the same thing about ECU and App. We should be 3-2, or maybe 4-1 right now instead of 2-3, but we can still right the ship going into conference play and make this the turnaround season we brought Sanchez in for.
In my personal life I am aware of one ODU grad, and nobody else from any of our other conference mates. I donāt work with any of them, I donāt live near any of them, and they just are not a part of my universe. Unfortunately, I know lots of App and ECU grads, and I will have to keep hearing about these losses for a year. If our coach, and the team, do not feel a special need to beat these in-state schools then we need to quit scheduling them. They are more important than other games, and if we cannot get up for them letās schedule somebody from Ohio or Delaware instead.
All beating Davidson did was make me more upset about the App and ECU games.
I like the scheduling the way we do it compared to many of our conference mates. We currently have the 2nd best win in the conference. UTSA and UTEP have yet to beat a D1 team. UAB has no losses, but their opponent average ranking is 311, Best win 201. Rice is 5-1 (opponent ranking 339), Best win 314. FIU is 4-1 (opponent ranking is 314), Best win 213.
We need to take care of business with the local teams, but the coaching style impacts that. We will be a much better team than ECU, App St., and Georgia St. at the end of the season.
Other teams with strong schedules, Marshall, North Texas, WKU, and ODU. Tier 1 for the conference tourney will come from 4 those schools, us, or maybe La. Tech.
Like last year beat davidson AND wake and lose to app, ezu and asheville. Gaaa!
Well thats awesome, at the end of the year I can tell all the APP and ECU people I know that their win in Dec doesnt matter because now my team is better.
I was thinking the same thing.
@Dowless, I get your point, but it sounds like you are saying we canāt do both. I feel like we must expect to beat, and then actually beat, App, ECU, UNC-A, and UNCW every time we play them. Schools like Davidson and maybe UNCG right now are more of a 50/50 situation where either team could very well win, and these are the measuring stick for us right now, it should not be App and ECU.
I do agree that playing better teams will help prepare us for competing for the conference race, but winning against those teams is the best preparation.
All other thing asideā¦we are blessed with a special basketball talent in Jamir Young.
Agreed. The poll said āstill have faith?ā.
Sorry, I am not saying that we canāt have both as we should. I am just not down because we lost to them because I have seen the growth in the team each of the years that Sanchez has been here. I think he is making progress, but we did have a setback this season. If he keeps losing so many guys to transfer then he will have big problems and we will need to find a replacement. I just think we should relax and see how it plays out for now. Way too early to lose faith given the progress he has made since arriving.
Deep breaths peopleā¦I hate losing to ECU and App as much as anyone, mainly because I loathe everything about both of them. However, we lost 5 strong contributors to this team in Bamba, Edwards, Martin, Robb, and yes, Vasic. Couple that with no exhibitions, no scrimmages, while trying to blend several new faces to this lineup, I can understand early losses, even if I dont like them.
I am firmly onboard with Coach Sanchez and definitely think heās got us on a good path. As fans, we are impatient and that is ok too. Hell, Iāve been a Niner fan since 1976 and am still here!
I gotcha brother. Iāve been a fan since ā71. I was spoiled in the early years as were you.
You guys make me feel young (got here in '77), and I really appreciate that!
