But⌠couldnât the team we lost too have this going on as well and they still beat us? Us as fans shouldnt have to understand early home losses against those 3 teams that we think we should beat. We lost. I blame Sanchez for the loss and there is no excuse. Now Sanchez has to win more games.
Neither App or ECU had the turnover we had. And I didnât say you had to understand or like it or anything else. I said I understood.

Of course we lost to App last year too.
Turnover is something every team has to deal with and prepare for even more so now that transfers happen so often. If our system is that turnover makes winning games against lesser comp early in the season so difficult maybe we need to re-evaluate the system.
I just donât want turnover and difficult system to be a yearly excuse dropping games like these. Doesnât help that App that beat us at home got worked in Knoxville last night.

Weâve always had those âscratch your head losesâ as far back as I can remember. Give me a defensive minded coach every time . Most are very successful because unlike shooting, defense can be more consistent.
Glad we have passionate fans but you all need to be more supportive and keep the negativity to yourselves. Iâm sure players read these posts so letâs donât turn this into a hate Sanchez rant which probably doesnât bode well with players. Just remember we all want the same thing , coaches, players, and fans.

This program needs to be shaken, not stirred. From offense and no defense, to defense and no offense, why canât we just have nice things that make sense?
The problem with this "defensive " coach is that we seem to give up more layups than almost any of our teams that I can remember. Thats not good when the offense is so ineffective at times.
You need to reremember better back to price, major and Lutz teams.
Oh I do remember themâŚand Watkins, and Mullins, and wissel, and pratt.

Give me offense everyday of the week with a decent defense.
We just beat one of the best defensive teams in the country by 15.
Charlotte ranks 166 offensively and 115 defensively. Last year they were 89th in def efficiency and 211 Sanchezâs first year.
Just because we run the pack line defense I wouldnât mistake Sanchez as a defensive coach. In fact, he actually hurts us. When you are poor to mediocre defensively and your scheme limits your offensive possessions it can spell disaster as we have seen on occasion.

Letâs support our coach and team. The road to recovery is never a straight line. A strong recovery requires strong fan support. Good things are happening. We beat the top 2 teams early in the season. Sure, we have had some really bad losses but we will learn. I am as frustrated as the next but donât wait until we arrive to enjoy the recovery, be part of it.

There is a solid core of players growing in the system. Young, Williams, Rossetto, Garcia, and Threadgill all show promise to be solid players. CSC, Byrd, Folkes, and Khalifa have potential. There is a big gap to fill waiting for recruits to come up the ranks. All G5 coaches will succeed or fail based on how many of their freshmen recruits transfer out. Sanchez failed in 2020 in that aspect. Robb and Martin were big losses. I hope the younger guys coming up look at how the transfers are performing at their current schools. Martinâs playing time was drastically diminished. Robb did see a bump in playing time, but his scoring is only up marginally.
The seniors need to learn to lead the way. They account for 43% of minutes played, 42% of points scored, 45% of rebounds got, 56% of the steals, and 49% of the turnovers. Typically, seniors would score more points compared to the percentage played and fewer turnovers than the percentage they play.
This is exactly what I was saying, our defense is bad and that hurts us even more with a bad offense.
I agree about the layups. Sometimes it looks like they are so focused on the pack line when it breaks down the players stand around looking at each other trying to figure out what went wrong while our opponent goes uncontested to the basket. We need big men who can provide help defense when it breaks down. Bamba was pretty good last year but this year there is no help. We need one or two athletic bigs who can block shots & rebound for next season. We just donât seem to recruit that kind of player.
Our defense is not bad. I donât know how anyone could watch our games and think that.

In prep school, Garcia was a great shot blocker. I hope he starts showing that soon.
