Poll: Do you still support coach Lambert as HC?

I think bringing in a punter will be the 3rd biggest target in the off season behind Recruiting coordinator and QB.

I voted yes, but since I thought we’d win 4 (maybe 5 games) this season and you called me crazy, let me play devils advocate.

Lambert has won 12 games in 3 seasons. A mark he hit 10 loooong weeks ago. Of which, only 6 of those teams were Division 1 scholarship programs.

Bobby Wilder for example at ODU had 17 wins in his first 2 seasons.
Larry Coker had 12 wins in his first 2 seasons. In his 3rd season at UTSA (While in CUSA) he went 7-5, tied for 2nd in the west.
Brian Bohannon won 6 games this year at Kennesaw State, he’s halfway to 12 in 1 season.
Bobby Lamb at Mercer won 16 games by the end of his 2nd season.

So what was the plan here? it was clear the goal wasn’t to win in year 1, or year 2 apparently. I was hoping in year 3, but unfortunately not year 3 either. Now year 3 is a little unfair given the huge bump in talent we went up against, but I don’t think we did a good job of preparing for this season. Depth is still an issue after 4 recruiting classes, and the QB we trotted out there couldn’t throw it from a shoutbox gang member to the nearest female.

If we don’t add a QB, it won’t be year 4. Judging by the fact that we are dead last in CUSA East for 2016 Rivals recruiting ranking, may not be year 5 or 6 either.

At some point winning needs to happen. Again, he has my support, right now. I think he’s excellent on camera and a good figure for our program, but he’s got to win.[/quote]

I am with ID 100%.

How long have you had that one stored away?

This is the concept that gets lost on me…

I said 2 wins was the over/under going in… We start out 2-0, which was fantastic, but just because you hit 2 wins after 2 games, it doesn’t mean you just coast on home and results be dammed… Lets take a look

MTSU- Welcome to reality. Nothing we could have done there.

FAU- 17-7 Loss. We turn the ball over 7 times, our QB’s are 11-34, 89 yards and 6 INTs including a pick 6. They scored 17 points- 7 off a pick 6, 7 from a very short field because our punter dropped a punt, they had 1 drive that resulted in a FG… We scored 0 offensive points despite Kalif rushing for 159 yards. We were the more talented team on the field that night, we had the best player on the field and the better defense… But we lost. The first real sign we have no QB at all- again, thats on the staff.

Temple- Outclassed… Defense played a terrific first half. We actually outgained them… We weren’t going to beat them, but again, a poor day by the QB.

ODU- Pissed this one away- no real other way to slice this one. Turnovers again kill the team. Also some really terrible play calling in the 4th killed them. This should be a W.

USM- Outclassed

Marshall- Outclassed

FIU- Special teams puts us in a hole early and we never really recovered.

UTSA- No reason we should have lost this one. Coaching was horrible… Chance to take a 10-0 lead into half but decide to let the QB who can’t throw or run, attempt a fake FG. Of course UTSA marched down to start the 3rd and ties the game. Play calling in this game was just mind numbingly bad. The officiating was terrible, but we also lacked composure in a big way

Kentucky- Outclassed

Rice- They were better

So… Yeah, 2 wins was a reasonable expectation pre season- but once the ball was kicked we had every chance to be a 5-7 team, rather than a 2-10 team. Watching the horrible QB play, really bad special teams, and, questionable play calling take a winning effort and put it in the loss column is frustrating. The buzz from a year 1 squad winning 5 games, 3 in conference would have been huge for the fans and recruiting. This season showed me, I have no idea what we have from a coaching perspective. We made terrific defensive progress, but took 3 steps back offensively.

I’m still behind these guys, but right now there are as many questions marks as there are answers.

My thoughts exactly!

I said yes, but I still have my doubts. Offensive play calling has been awful, and the QB situation this year raises lots of eyebrows.

He’s everything you want when it comes to non-football stuff, so I really want him to succeed.

You used a lot less words, but got where I trying to go… Lambert is an easy guy to root for as man. He’s been a great face for the program, and he’s also shown he will make difficult changes if needed.

I’m actually pleased with my irritation, its much better than being 1-11 and having been outclassed week in and week out.

I rarely agree with S’ posts, but this one is SPOT ON. Great post!!!

Also to add to FIU game… Late in 4th (2-3 min to go) we score a touchdown to put us down 18. Lambert instead of going for 2 points and making it a 2 score game only goes for 1. Then lambert opts to not attempt an onside kick to try to get the ball back. He quit on the game.

The whole qb mess is a huge mess imo. A entire year of this crap. I voted no. This isn’t high school football. Lambert is getting paid a lot of freaking money to not have 3 qb running in and out. I hope we somehow get the qb situation fixed and we continue to improve but I’m a lot less optimistic than I was after last year.

Most people think Lambert should have 5 years before judgement, collectively what does everyone think our program should look like after 5 years in order to base the decision of him to stay?

Cusp of a bowl game. Competitive games, good recruits, and a promising future. I think that is a tempered expectation for a new program, but anything short of that is probably a failure in my eyes.

I think this is fair. Bowl I don’t think is a requirement, but solid .500 season that kept bowl talk alive is.

ODU, a late ref whistle that results in a fumble lost this one
UTSA Kings late hit
Rice missing Kalif and 3 field goals…

We were this close from 3 more wins in year 3… And that was with FCS recruits starting. We redshirted this years entire freshman class… Lambert is building a program. Solving the QB issue and fill some select holes where depth could hurt us next year are his challenges this off season (and to find a new O-line coach…)

Phillips missed most of USTA game, we had a touchdown waived off on a terrible call and don’t get me started on the interception on their last drive that was waived off.
We were playing without a full deck all season. Georgia State was faster and bigger than us. The fact that we competed in a lot of these games, even for just a half is a testament to the coaching staff.

As for the personal fouls, while they were annoying, we didn’t do anything that an average nfl team doesn’t do over the course of a season. Kids, unfortunately, are going to be kids.

Is Donnalley not coming back?

He will be back, but what role will he decide to fill. He’s a class act and fits in well.

I agree, i hope to continue to see him on the sidelines in some role.

Keep an eye on the roads & sky! Our coaches will be dropping by to see you soon! #stateofcharlotte

I don’t know if I still support lambert or not. However, we did beat a bowl team this year. I guess that’s something.

clt says he is playing FBS with FCS players.
