How long have we known we were going FBS? Did we not know this before our first ever season? If so, this is not an excuse lambert can use. Recruiting, just like everything else, in the end falls on the head coach.

I believe our first recruiting class is all FCS. All of our FBS recruits are underclassmen

Our first class and a bunch of our second were FCS type players. We really shouldnât be competing at his point. Every game should look like Marshall or at best FIU. Lambert has done great job putting us in a position to compete. Our 10-3 half against Temple should have gotten him a few coach of the year votes.
Recruiting isnât going to be easy. The age of the program and pedigree from a Wâs and Lâs perspective hurt⌠A hurdle they have is getting kids to come play in the smallest stadium in FBS. The Rich is awesome, but itâs a FCS stadium with a Video Board.

So many of our commits had few or no fbs offers.
Not going to win many fbs games if that continues. Recruiting has been hugely underwhelming.
I think he deserves another year. Of course my hope was that we would have more early success and Lambert would be here for a long time but realistically I figured 3 to 4 years after play started, weâd need to move on.
Besides, the longer we keep Lambert, the more likely that it will be a different AD, who picks the next coach.
Just to add a wee bit of perspective: after Charlotte beat Georgia State in the first game, lots of Panther fans were ready to sack Miles and Co., every last one of them. After losing to Liberty, Panther fans were livid, ready to torch everything. Losing sucks, especially games that shouldnât have been losses in the fansâ perspectives. Being consistently regarded as the worst FBS program in the county stung, daily, especially when the conference brethren, in particular a loudmouth school with a strong history and national championships, always seemed eager to remind Panther fans about how bad the program was/is.
Something clicked, recruiting, schemes, whatever, and Georgia State goes on a four-game win streak, including handing Georgia Southern its worst home loss ever to become bowl eligible.
Perspective. Charlotte has all the right tools in places, so it will get better. I predicted two wins (not against GSU of course), and we got there. Next year weâll see improvement, and the year after that. WKU didnât become WKU overnightâŚit lost something like 23 in a row after going FBS.

Not sure what you mean: do you agree with me (i.e. patience and perspective) or are you telling me to get the âFâ outta here with mentioning the GSU example because you only want to discuss Charlotte?

This is why so many Panther fans are left scratching the collective head (and why the loss to Charlotte so demoralized the base). I warned them that Charlotte is better than what they expected, but odd too because that Charlotte team only made rare appearances for the rest of the season.
Given how bad it was at GSU (2 wins in three seasons), it was easy to overlook the good things the staff was doing, the player development, etc. Still, the sweetest thing was dominating Georgia Southern at their place to get bowl eligible. GaSots are as big a pain in the backside to State fans as Appys are for 49ersâŚI swear Appys and GaSots read from the same playbook of arrogance and condescension.

QB situation was different in that game. Johnson seemed the best to get the most out of the offense. Coaching staff then seemed to want to get McNeil snaps. I suspect if we had the McNeil in the GSU game that we saw most of the season, we might have lost that game too. I guess it remains to be seen if that game plan was smart.
Totally agree Normmm⌠We played 55 minutes of really good D that game (last 5 were a heart attack)⌠And Mattâs play (5 TOâs included {I know 1 of the fumbles should be charged to the Center}) was probably the best QB play we had all year in terms of consistently putting solid drives together.
Iâd really like to have seen how the season unfolded if say he only turned it over 1 or 2 times vs. GaSt⌠He would have played the entire Presby game, which was a good game for the O do put up #'s⌠Iâm thinking and went into MTSU as THE starter, not at all saying we are even competitive there, but who knows if the avalanche that killed Barden happens the same way⌠But as Iâm always the first to say, if my aunt had a peter, sheâd be my uncleâŚ
Either way, we get solid QB play and we arenât having this conversation about Lambert⌠We are asking when the extension for the coach who had 5 wins in year 1 is happening.

And why I never understood the QB shuffle this season; I donât think I heard an explanation for it either from Lambert or any other source. While Johnson might have some issues, the shuffle was just baffling and frustrating. No doubt in my mind that if the 49ers get a QB on par with GSUâs Nick Arbuckle, next season will be much different than this frustrating season. The pieces are coming into place for the Niners.
Brad Lambert has sparked consistent banter here at Todayâs U, spanning back from the spring when Charlotte was granted a slot in the FBS, all the way to midway progress reports and postseason evaluation.
The 49ers, at 2-10, settled right around the presumed win total that the sports books dialed up back in early June. Kicking off the docket by stringing together consecutive victories over non-conference opponents marked the highpoint of the year as Charlotte nabbed ten straight defeats.
Unable to get acclimated to the full extent with its peers of the Conference USA, Charlotte remained considerably competitive with the knowledge that personal success and growth would peak its accolades for the inaugural season in the FBS. With three losses by ten points or less and a wide margin for leeway, itâs daunting to unleash a harsh scolding on a 2-10 49ers program.
