Poll: Was extending Fearne as HC the right move?

Even still, he and Jackson have similar number of blocks.

Not all about blocks stopping drives with positioning is important as well.

The debate is kind of irrelevant now with Jackson announcing his transfer. But I too liked Jackson at the 5 better as well. My main original point was that they have different skill sets. Not necessarily comparing apples to apples.

Nastradamus right here. I do wonder in light of the recent announced transfers how that changes anyone’s opinion on, we originally retained Fearne to keep players from transferring excuse and offering Fearne a contract before the season had ended.

EVERY SINGLE COACH has lost good players to the cursed portal.
Unfortunately we are among a group of about 260 D1 programs that are now a feeder pool for the top 60 or so “power schools”. Sucks but we are going to have to understand it and reload every year…it will be a vicious, nauseating cycle that may drive me and a lot of folks away from college sports

Knew all along that transfers would happen and that is why it will be important for Fearne to either recruit well or hire a recruiter. With where we are it is also important to have a coach that can lead a new team each season. I think Fearne could excel at that. Get rid of complicated offenses and defenses because they are too hard to teach in one season. Switching simple defenses or playing a havoc style will work better. Tag up to man is what we played more of this season as we played less pack line. Waiting to see when the assistants that run Princeton Offense get released or move on.

Yeah. Each season it’ll be like pick up ball in the park. Whoever shows up, plays, and each player just plays to his strengths and whoever wins, wins. Continuity is over for most everybody, especially programs like ours. We need to evaluate the new landscape, adjust, and get the best out of who we get and improve the schedule to have any chance of EVER making it to the Big Dance again.

Getting to the dance should not be that hard. Duquesne(sp) is in it and just beat byu.

When is the last time we went? It is pretty damn hard. Also, they hadn’t been since 1977 I think.

Ali went 0-6 with byu today with 2TO, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.

The excuse to hire someone should not be to keep the Team together. Hire the right coach should be the goal.

You can state the right coach is not available.

I do believe we are lucky to have Fearne as the coach. I think he will do well here.

That was my point. Well said.

Basically everyone got turned into some version of the one-and-done teams. Stinks, because one of the reasons other programs had a chance against the top programs was they could get together an experienced team that built on prior years and played well together. Now, with zero continuity, that won’t happen, and the teams that were already picking the best incoming talent can now pick the best revealed returning talent too. My interest in college basketball just keeps going down (I might have watched one or two non-Charlotte games this year?). The unpunished cheating in the past decade was the biggest hit for me, but these other problems are just pushing me out further.

As for Fearne, he at least did well with adjusting new and staying players to a new philosophy, hopefully that’s a sign of how he’ll bring new people in every year and fit them into those that stick around. At least until contracts come around.

I am one of those of whom you speak!

Watching all this Tourney bball & the fact that we had a much sought after ‘double bye’ this year…. Next year two conference Tourney wins will be a minimal threshold for us to show any type of progress.

Not a fan of those double bye formats, better just to get on the court and win a game in March.

I may be too optimistic on this subject, but I know we’re gonna lose guys every year. But I also know that there are a shit ton of P5 that aren’t happy that we can make a run at.

Igor was not a panic move. He and Jackson both will get over 6 figures. I hate it but take the money young man.
