I think he was referring to making Fearne interim coach because he retained players and/or extending his contract mid-season as panic move. Not Igor or Jacksonās decisions.

Itās way too early to really answer this question. We can say whatever and itās just premature speculation. (Insert own joke here.)
Weāll be in better position to make a more definitive answer after next season.
Locking Fearne in mid year was not a āpanic moveā by any definition. Dude over performed with the team and EARNED an extension.

I gotta wonder if we had chemistry issues later in the season because of known portal moves within the team.
I think Fearne could end up being a better hire than expected in this environment because of his pro experience. Though, with the no contract turnover at the moment, this is another environment.

Jackson getting 6 shots total in 2 games down the stretch / tournament might be a sign eventhough no teams were guarding Folkes at that point. Energy from earlier in the year was definitely down.

Some players played like they were ready for the season to end during the Temple game. I wonder if they were in a hurry to get that check?

Sounds like Fearne knew they were going to the Portal before the season ended. Easy to tell that the effort and toughness was missing at some point late in the season. Igor and Dishon both made several āsplashā plays during the season to build their highlight reels. Transfer portal is ruining college basketball. At least make it off limits until the season is over.

Healy made a comment that if the kid hits the portal it means they have already been contacted and agreed to a deal elsewhere - and that most of that happens under the tale.

We see it all the time in football. Players take a pass in bowl games so they donāt get hurt.
I saw the same thing at the end of the season. Money was on the table so ādonāt push yourself and risk injury.ā The heck with the school that has invested in you; education, food, housing, flights, etc.
Charlotte had the potential to be special. It appears some of our players decided to skip the post season. Weāll see more of this in the future.
I do think Fearne has the ability to help tackle this issue. He is a great hire based on the current environment.

Perhaps we only bring in players with one year of eligibility and do it again next year.

I cannot say all deals are done before the season ended, but I do know one transfer who had it all planned before January. This was a player last year and did not leave/go to Charlotte.
As soon as a player has a solid few weeks they are going to start hearing from Other schools unofficially.
I think you have to approach it with the hopes you get lucky and get some guys who actually want to be here. Thats hard to do now but maybe if you have enough success and you get guys who care about winning more than the next greener pasture they want to graze in you can actually keep some for more than 1 year.
I really wish there were enforceable tampering rules and schools would lose scholarships for contacting players before they enter the portal. But at the top level they would just give them NIL scholarships as walk ons so that probably wouldnāt completely stop tampering. I really find it hard to believe a player with lots of options can commit to a school 1 week after entering the portal without it being pretty much a done deal before he entered.
Dishonās deal had to be done before the portal was open.
Others, I think they probably knew they were going to transfer before the season ended, but not sure they had anything lined up.
It is probably only the P5 who lines up deals before the season is over. I doubt Charlotte does considering the collective just got started.
