Poll: Who do you want as HC of Men's Basketball next year?

Not like we have anything else to talk about

shooting fish in a barrel. Well, WHO ya gonna call? May as well be Ghostbusters.

clt asks that you add a " no opinion" option.

LaVelle Moton.

However:

Central basketball coach LeVelle Moton has signed a contract extension worth a total of $2 million through 2022, making him the highest-paid coach in the school's history. Moton's contract, which was extended in May, has an annual base salary of $250,000 for eight years.

Take into account that we’ll likely have to pay Major something to buy out the rest of his contract (unless we can use the health clause of 90 days and fire him while owing him nothing in return) and then pay NC Central something to buy Moton out of his contract… Sigh… The possibility of us then offering Moton say a five year deal at $450,000 annually drops tremendously. Maybe a whale will step up.

They really stepped up for him, good for NCCU (bad for us though)

In comparison their last coach was paid a base salary of $80,000.

Really? Major for Moton? Really?

Every time I listen to Odom talk, I’m left with the impression that he is very comfortable with mediocrity. I get no sense of urgency to do whatever it takes to improve and play at a consistent level. It is getting harder and harder to listen to. We absolutely new a whole new staff. Keep Henry Williams as director of player development, everybody else has to go.

What is your issue with Moton?

yes really. This guy turned around a team brand new d1 team and has made them a meac power. In addition, he knows a lot of people.

I’d much rather have an up and comer who goes 27-5 and undefeated in a lesser conference than an older retread from a power conference who consistently finished middle of the pack or worse.

I’d also be cool with Stephen F Austin’s coach.

This is rhetorical at best. At best. I think it helps the discussion more to just list why you don’t think Moton would be a good choice. Just my opinion.

That $80,000 base was for a D2 coach though. Moton’s salary is higher mainly because he was taking over a new D1 team, and NCCU needed to offer a competitive salary.

We talk about rebuilding here at Charlotte, so this is why I am intrigued by Moton- He takes over a 4-27 HBCU team as they transition from D2-D1 (They received full D1 status in 2011), has them at 0.500 his first year, and playing in the schools first NCAA by year 4 after winning the MEAC tourney.

He appears fiery and passionate in his coaching videos, has established ties locally (recruiting?) has a proven record as a HC, has experience rebuilding a program, and perhaps most importantly, is obtainable. We are an upgrade in salary, facilities, and conference. I must add though that he is coaching at his alma-mater. Not sure if that would give him any pause though.

MOXLEY !

Or maybe an up and coming Davidson assistant so we can at least try to start beating them again.
