Portland Game
Actually your original point stated that he was as good of a scorer and that is not true. If Rodney was the focal point of our offense as Curt is, he would average a lot more points.

Rod average 18ppg playing with Jobey, Demon, Diego, etc.
Last year Curt averaged 18.0 PPG and 8.1 REB with Plav here. Just because Curt gets points by playing big inside and getting 3 pt plays as well as being big on the boards doesn’t mean he isn’t as good as an offensive player than Rodney. I think Curt plays better D and he can score on anyone in the NCAA in the low post.

Yea maybe Rodney did have a better jump shot, but Curt’s game isn’t mostly about jump shots, it’s taking it to the hole and being physical. I always think a physical big man is better than a big man that can shoot and is “softer”, because not only can he hold his own in the D end, he can wear out defenders and by the end of the game they are wore out.

Exactly Ninerballin. And Curt averaged 18 with Eddie and Plav getting a ton of shots.

I think Curt will average over 20/game this season and close to 10 rebounds which, with his defense and toughness makes him a much better basketball player than Rodney ever could have been in college.

Curt did all of this his freshman or sophmore year? How many 1st round NCAA games have we won with Curt?

I like Curt and am not trying to take anything away from him, but he has not near the offensive game that Rodney had.

Rodney was a lottery pick because of his ability to score the basketball…

OK everyone, morninglimp is right no matter how the facts stack up against his ridiculous claims.

No, Rodney was a lottery pick because of hype, his size and potential…which he never lived up to.

You’re right, Curt probably has a better offensive game than Rodney right now and will certainly will by the end of the season.

Just for comparison…

Rodney White
2000-01 - 28 Games, 26 Starts; 188-386 FGs, .487; 33-95 3-pt FGs, .347; 114-160 FTs, .713; 182 Rebounds, 6.5 RPG; 72-3 Fouls, 2 DQs; 41 Assist; 82 Turnovers; 20 Blocks; 34 Steals; 523 Points, 18.7 PPG

Curtis Withers

I’d still take Curtis.

Just for comparison…

Rodney White
2000-01 - 28 Games, 26 Starts; 188-386 FGs, .487; 33-95 3-pt FGs, .347; 114-160 FTs, .713; 182 Rebounds, 6.5 RPG; 72-3 Fouls, 2 DQs; 41 Assist; 82 Turnovers; 20 Blocks; 34 Steals; 523 Points, 18.7 PPG

Curtis Withers
2002-03 - 29 Games, 18 Starts; 104-264 FGs, .394; 3-30 3-pt FGs, .100; 63-100 FTs, .630; 187 Rebounds, 6.4 RPG, 57 Fouls, 0 DQs; 38 Assists; 46 Turnovers; 22 Blocks; 34 Steals; 274 Points, 9.4 PPG

So if we look at their freshman years only. Rodney shot 10% points higher in total, 25% from 3 pointers, 8% better from the stripe, averaged more rebounds and started 26/28 games versus 18/26 games. So if we compare these stats, I would say Rodney was the better player for his one year here. Imagine if he had developed his game for 4 years. UNSTOPPABLE.

Wow has this gone down the wrong road.

All I stated was that right now, Curt is a better basketball player than Rodney was when he was here. Which he is. I never said anything about what year who was and when.

Also, it wasn’t like Rod was a 17 year old freshman…I think he was 20 when he left here and I think we’ve all seen that Rodney White was as developed as he was gonna get when he left here.

Again, to claify for the slower individuals on this board:

I just wrote that right now Curt is a better basketball player than Rodney was the year he was here. Thats all.

Everyone has overlooked the most important fact. Rodney claimed to have dominated college basketball.

Curt has never made that claim.

OK everyone, morninglimp is right no matter how the facts stack up against his ridiculous claims

Back to calling names…

If your comparing Curt now to Rodney, that’s a fair claim statistically, but it is kind of like comparing apples to oranges because we don’t know how Hot Rod would have developed/progressed in another year or two. But I’d say your claim is arguable and justifiable.

Rodney’s averages would not have increased either. He did about as much as he could, he was a bigger part of the entire offense that season, Curtis never was until last season and often he didn’t get a touch because of quick jumpers into the possession.

Everyone knew all along White would not stay, Withers has improved enough that he’ll have a career somewhere. While he got the $$$ early, Rodney is still looking to begin one.
Some bad things. Leemire was 0-7 from the floor, man he is cold. Mitch needs to go to the bench, he sucks. Drayton is still struggiling aswell.
Glad you’re not our coach
