That’s a bunch of meetin’ and greetin’ in an hour. ;D Methinks it’ll be sittin’ and listening. Still good.

Yeah, I was suprised how short it was, we’ll be shooed out the door carrying our half-eaten BBQ sammiches.

Anybody else going to this tonight? I’ve never been to one so not sure what to expect. Sounds cool though and seems like a good way to get season ticket holders more invested in program.

is the scrimmage going to be streamed? i have to work otherwise i would go.

I don’t think so but not positive.

Well. Someone had to attend.

Can you educate us who could not.

What did we miss?

I found it funny BBQ was served like I joked before. Hi AD!

Highlights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBCFrvEtc-I&feature=youtu.be

I missed the scrimmage, but NLP covered it well. Here are a couple of other notes you may be interested in.

Judy said the basketball office got a call right after Mark Price was named coach, and she called a dad back who said “I want my son to play for Mark Price.” He told her he played against Mark when he was at NC State, and wanted his kid to play for Mark. “Wow, have you called NC State too?”, Judy asked. “Nope” said the dad.

Price is good in front of a crowd. Jeff Mullins good. It was a short talk, but he clearly is comfortable in that role.

There are plans to continue the alumni player annual reunion. This will be Alan Major’s legacy. They do not know when or where it will be, but it will happen. Some of the former players that have reconnected bought football tickets, and some are giving money to the 49er Club. It is good to see them back in the gym.

Marlon Thomas ('97-'99) has come back to finish his degree. He was a good kid, and I am glad to see him finish this up.

The 3rd floor hospitality suites were packed tonight. The crowd tonight may have been larger than a couple of our games last year. It is a great sign that these were all people that have bought tickets, and are that excited.

I saw a comment here a couple of weeks ago, and thought I would mention that the lights at the main entrance, in the columns and on the sign, were pink tonight. It is a nice touch when they do it.

One more thing to add was that Price mentioned that he was working on scheduling a 4 year deal with Wake.

NLP said they finalized the series with Wake. That would be great. We owe them for the last farce @ Winston - the one where Withers fouled out on phantom calls cause he was abusing them.

What I am not seeing in those highlights is any type of rim protector. Its the foundation for an effective defense, which must be why Price has them playing mostly 2-3 zone. Beans looked like he was taking advantage of it - expect to see other teams’ bigs lick their chops. I’m sure playing Miami with Izundu will be loads of fun.

Lots of made jumpers from the young guys in those highlights. That’s something at least.

We’ve got a loooong way to go to rebuild this program. We’re not rebuilding from last year. We are rebuilding from last year, less Thorne, Clayton, Woods, and Dorn (and even Benny). As blah as our record was with all those guys, we are starting from much worse than that. Makes me think we’ll be very fortunate to finish .500 this year.

I was pretty sure I heard her say that was a recruit (and parents) that was in her the other day. Not sure who she was taking about but it probably wouldn’t be difficult to find out. What I heard her say was that we had a recruit here last week and his dad said “when I found out price was going to be coach I contacted the basketball office because that’s who I wanted my son to play with”. Then went on to say he played against price while he was at nc state, etc. She did make a point to say it wasn’t anyone on the team currently.

The lack of rim protection has been an issue for several years now, we’ve mostly lacked it since Phil Jones was still playing, though Braswell was able to do it against smaller teams.

I wonder if Van Hook will be able to handle better shotblockers at his height, but I like that it sounds like he works really hard. Smallish college post players can find success if they know how to position themselves and create space in crafty ways.

I also like hearing that Davis sounds like a good ball-handler. Having a point guard that can avoid turnovers against pressure will be really helpful if Davis can give us that.

We got them back 2 years later when we beat them in TWC Arena, but we still owe them. The one-sided officiating was more than just Withers fouling out on phantom calls. Wake’s center fouled out or was in foul trouble every game that year except for the game against us. He had no fouls called on him in that game.

I am willing to bet it was Quentin Jackson Sr. who made those comments. He played at NC State while Price was at GT.

;D

I’m withholding any judgement until there are results. I like what I’ve heard so far, but talk is cheap.

Thought the event was a great idea. Also enjoyed meeting a couple of the new players. A few of them went around and talked with the crowd. In particular, White, made a point to go up to each table and introduce himself and thank everyone for coming out. Like everyone else, I want to see results on the hardwood. But I appreciate and enjoy seeing the effort made by players and coaches to connect with the fans/alums

Was very impressed with White myself. Other players were mixing it up as well but he came and introduced himself to everyone at our table.

Fire the caterer. Who doesn’t bring BBQ sauce for BBQ?
