Program's future

I probably should have put this here instead of the shoutbox:

[1 Minute Ago] NinerAdvocate: Here’s the real problem though - money. Whether Lutz is right or wrong is immaterial. The plain fact is that we are too poor to do a damn thing about it, so really Im just whining for no reason

I guess I’m the only one that didn’t gush over Harris after the games at Halton. Guys, I just don’t see it. His ball handling skills are minimal. He dribbles with his head down. He doesn’t look for his shot. He struggles to get the half-court offense set up. He doesn’t put extereme preesure on the ball like some have claimed. I’ve been hard on Gerrity before I’ve seen him play. I take all of that back. We had better all hope Gerrity can play just a bit or it’s going to be a long, long, long, long season.
Wonder if Lutz has earned the extension yet…hmmmmmmm
by the time this is over lutz will wish he had taken the s alabama job. the next offer may come from the likes of lenoir rhyne or cpcc.

Next time, let’s not hire an alumnus (Bobby is). It really, deep down, hurts
to see one of our own go through this nightmare.
I want to see Coach Lutz get the chance to develop this team and add some more key pieces.
I didn’t see the last 3 games, so I may be going on a flyer here…but I’m not quite sure how many more chances Lutz can expect to get.

Hopefully, Saturday and today’s games were bumps in the road…but right now, the path looks scarily similar to one I’ve been down before with this ole’ ball coach.
Agreed and maybe at some point, some of the people here who are newer to the program, will see where you’re coming from. Despite stating we needed 6-7 games to judge this team, I admit I got a little giddy after the two early wins. But not to the point where I feel crushed after losing to Monmouth. Actually, it just further fuels my apathy, which has grown substantially over the years. I just don’t really care. And to me, that’s far worse than being pissed, from a fan’s perspective.

We grabbed 3 wins against mediocre teams and lost two, to one below-average game and one to an abysmal team that we had no business losing to, regardless of how many new faces we have on our team. Yes, we’re 3-2 and maybe some of you feel we should be happy considering the expectations. But that’s not the point. Our record has nothing to do with how I feel right now. It’s seeing a pattern over the last several years that has gradually regressed our program. A pattern many of us thought would be broke this year as Lutz employed a new mentality. He hasn’t. He never will. Same stuff, different season.

I hope we turn it around. I’d love nothing more than to see us go on a tear. But I’ll stand by my comments in the off-season thread where we all made our predictions on this year’s record. I had us finishing under .500 and the mediocrity of our conference may be the only reason we overachieve with that. I look at our next 8 games and I just can’t see us winning more than half of them. Actually, winning half would be a surprise at this point.

Oh well…thank goodness for the desensitization. It certainly helps with embarrassing losses like today’s.
Apathy is starting to set in here too. I have never been a fan of any team like I have the Niners over the past 15 years but I can’t continue to support something like this. To see our program continue to regress is disheartening. Most of us are realistic in our expectations. I’m not thinking we should go undefeated or anything but to lose to Monmouth? Wow.

Something has got to change…either Lutz makes changes…or Judy and Phil make changes. WFU is now a must win. It may be our only chance to beat someone with a name. And suddenly I am afraid to play G. Webb and F. Dickenson. Wow again.

By the way…did anyone hear Bobby on the post game? Would love to know what he said.

I wanna be 9-5 in OOC. So the next 9 games we gotta go 6-3 to satisfy me. If we could steal the Wake game, it gives us a chance.

I don’t know. In true Niner form, we could beat Wake and then lose to GW or FD.

Whatever happened to games that we knew we could win? I don’t know about you guys but I was nervous when they played Ottawa.

That’s how I see it…

That's how I see it....

sav- I agree your take is more likely
That’s how I see it…
Sadly I think you’re right. People are taking for granted that we will beat Davidson and SIU, no question. SIU will be a very difficult game as well Davidson.

Lutz’s chances for an extension just got a lot tougher. He fell back into his old habits tonight, too many 3’s, not going inside and attacking the basket. It’s been a consistant story the past few seasons.

If they win this game, I believe there would have been a contract extension under the tree before Christmas just by playing consistently. As much as I want to forget this game, I think it was a potential turning point.

I do agree with this IF we don’t learn to play against teams like this. I do think if WSU had beaten Monmouth then it would have been a much different game against WSU. We do not play well against a half court slow down team…especially since we have NEVER played against this style with this team.
This board go to gloom when we drop a game we shouldn’t have.
I remember almost everyone saying before the season began that they just want to see improvement from the last two years REGARDLESS if we have a loosing record.
I would say we have taken MAJOR steps in the right direction. Defense is much better, intensity is much better, Bobby is more passionate, and the guys play their tale off. We basically had NONE of this the last two years.
We struggle against teams that slow it down, that’s all this loss is in my opinion. Basketball is ALL ABOUT MATCHUPS, the name of the team you are playing against is irrelevant.
I think we will be much better against Wake because of the style they play.
People need to relax, we have a long season with four new players starting…JUST RELAX, and let things play out before you start going crazy. Go crazy in early February if we are struggling, and have not improved.

Also, if we had been beating the teams we should have been beating for the past 2 seasons, there would have already been a contract extension and this wouldn’t even be an issue.

justifying a Monmouth loss because we did not ā€œmatch upā€ is laughable. sorry

that is not why we lost

I think Judy should just sell the team and close up shop…

Ooops… wrong thread… that was supposed to be about JR and the Panthers.

As one who played organized sports, I could not agree with you more, Metro!

This ain’t bseball. Lefty vrs righty doesn’t play into it much. Personally I’ve never seen Princeton beat Duke, I may have missed it.

Boys and girls- I thought I would feel better this morning. I don’t, I’m still pissed. I thought we may have turned the proverbial corner not because we won a couple of games but b/c of the way we played.

I thought that maybe, just maybe, Lutz realized jacking 3’s without conscience just does not work. I was wrong. We will be what we are as long as he is here.

We’ll win some games when someone is on fire (ie, Goldwire vrs App) and get embarrassed by well-coached teams on a regular basis (ie, Davidson last year).

I hope you guys are happy with that, I’m not.

My feelings in a nutshell. Plenty of blame for this situation. Bobby Lutz for AD.
