Unless he gets the old redshirt of doom…
I like the idea of getting the best players available, even at the expense of current players, but seriously, why do we have 2 2gs coming in when we are only losing one?

I guarantee you Coleman would not be redshirting.

Do you really think Ian or the freshman can replace a 30 minute 19ppg guy? I sure don’t, I’m glad we are getting some depth, every other position is set.

I know he wont. But what about our two other 2gs that are coming in next year. It’s Jerrell Lewis all over again for one of them. This is the reason we have so many transfers.

Until he blew up at the Bojangles last year, he was looking at college strictly from an academic point of view. Plus he's grown a lot and might be used differently than when we first saw him.
I think you’re right, it is just that our recruiting sometimes confuzzles me.

What position do you think we need? We are two deep everywhere but SG.

Yeah, we’re three deep there…and we’re losing two PF/Cs at the end of next season.

Barnett might be a SG on paper but as everyone says, he’s now 6-7 and probably won’t sniff time, Ian is not a starting SG for an NCAA team and I don’t want to throw all my eggs in the basket of a Freshman. I would love to get another PF but I’m sure you know good big men are harder to recruit than guards. If this guy is getting offers from UConn and such we can’t pass on him.

I think you’re missing where I’m coming from, I want to sign him. I have no problem with getting the best player out there, especially if it is better than what you currently have. I have no problem with a person losing minutes to a freshman if the freshman is better.
I do, however, not like the fact that we overload at certain positions. I want a 6’6" guy who can fill it up as much as anyone at any school would, but I hate the fact that we get so many projects that we know aren’t going to play here. Why waste a scholarship on a Tyler Best or a Jerrell Lewis? Why get them here if we know they aren’t going to play. They aren’t even stop gap players or projects, because we never see them on the floor. We recruit starters and then we recruit a practice squad.
I don’t have a problem with a project that winds up being a bust, but we get a lot of them. Or guys that aren’t even projects. Or guys that are just plain bad.

I agree with everything you said, Barnett was a waste of a scholarship, and might still be next year. You said we were 3 deep at SG and I disagree, that was my only point, I’d say we are 1.5 deep right now, and bringing in another shooter should help next year.

I never pass judgement on a player until I see them on the court. I have no idea if he was a waste of a scholarship.

You need to stop talking right there.
I would think that SG is the more pressing need for next year, and PF is for the following year. Bowden is a frosh (can’t depend on consistent scoring from him), Barnett is a redshirt frosh (project + same comment as with Bowden), Ian (God Bless him) is not really D1 caliber although he works hard and gives you everything he’s got), so we are in need of immediate scoring help for next year. Otherwise, the year will play out much like this past season, with us relying heavily on one proven scorer (Lee this year, and Mack next year) and hoping the other unproven scorers can chip in enough night in and night out. If Coleman can score 40+ points, and consistent high numbers at that level, then he should be able to at least give us an average of double digit scoring. This is also showing that Lutz and company are concerned about where the consistent scoring is going to come from next year. A couple guys have shown flashes, but nothing to make you say “yeah, he’s going to really put up the numbers next year”.

Yeah, Lamont Mack is going to really put up the numbers next year.

Welcome to a balanced attack basketball team.

HAHAHAHAHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.
Good one.

Convince me that we don’t have 5 guys on our team who can give us double-digit points a night.
We have a chance at an experienced power forward as well. It will all come together. We landed 8 new guys last year and all met or exceeded expectations. Have faith.
You need to stop talking right there.
Uh, what’s your problem? You think a red shirt freshman that didn’t snif a minute of PT last year is a good use of a scholarship?
