Like usual, the national media has been butchering our name in the American Idol class stories. Like usual, we as Charlotte grads are almost expecting it, and letting it roll off our backs. I have been doing the same, that is, until watching CNN this morning.
The main anchor turns it over to CNNâs metrosexual entertainment reporter. Entertainment anchor goes on to discuss how the University of North Carolina is offering a class on American Idol, while showing clips of the American Idol show, in which the entire time the UNC powder blue logo is on the bottom of the screen. Camera cuts back to reporter. âOhâŚumâŚIâm told the American Idol class is being offered at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and not the ârealâ North Carolina. Back to you.â

Tee shirts or even nicer gear would be a start.Getting the word out in every way possible in an intelligent insightful way.Explain why it is possible to still be a part of the unc system but represent Charlotte better on a national level. Why this change would get rid of confusion.Mayor Pat is a huge supporter of this change.Enlist his help.Begin right off the bat with the new chancelor.Any others?
I dont know about the rest of you but I am always up for sending out a harsh Email on Mondays. Not that it would really help but here is the link to contact CNNâŚ
UNCC must go! I hate the fact so many people as well media groups confuse us with UNC of Chapel Hill. Iâm with you on this issue. Deploy the sentinals!
Thatâs it. Being called 2nd rate on CNN. Thatâs an all-time low. F#@K that! This should be all the reason we need for even someone without balls to get the name changed. Whose attention do we have to bring this to?
Why donât we undergo an email/mail campaign for all the alumni, shouldnât we have the final word? I am tired of being compared to a university so overrated that the professors rarely teach, they just leave it to the TAs so they can concentrate on getting more grants. Thats why I transferred out of the quote âreal UNCâ.

[b] It would be nice if we can have a running list of mistakes by the press too...

This would be as simple as keeping a single name mistakes thread running (and pinned?). I only wish we hadnt killed the old name change forum and lost the mistakes.
One thing I think would help is to get more political support at the state level.
Itâs one thing to have McCroryâs support. Itâs another to have a series of state legislators on board. Are any of local state legislators UNC Charlotte grads? Probably not, but still would be a huge boost.
If people want to get this done, itâs got to be seriously approached. If itâs just an occassional post on the message board followed by a few passionate emails, itâs never going to happen.
um, guysâŚis this something we really want to take claim to?? Personally Iâm pretty damn embarassed by the school even offering this class. I say let UNC-CH take the fall for a class like this.
