Rice Postgame

Waste of time

Fire Lambert!

Defense is pathetic. Keep giving them 8 yard cushions and they’ll keep converting. Matt Wallerstedt might be in over his head

I said before the game that if we lost to Rice the season was a failure. I feel more confident in that statement now. I don’t give a shit if we win the next two. Absolute garbage today.

what a loss in momentum

Mullin is a pass-happy moron. Should be fired before Monday.

I forgot to mention, I wasn’t there today. I screwed up my back because apparently I deadlift like I have M.S. The turnout today looked horrible from the stream. We’re screwed. Can’t win winnable games and can’t get people to show up after big wins. This is not a good combo.

Defense played great. While it infuriates us to watch them get those short completions, that bend but don’t break philosophy works. Gave up 15 points today. That’s a good day at the office.

Offense did nothing after half time. Hard to play QB banged up, and it looked like Klugh was. Hope he’s ok. Dropped passes killed us. Rice made us throw it to beat them, and we couldn’t do it. This is the same Jeff Mullens that was calling plays the last two weeks.

Special teams were fine, except that dropped punt. Absolute killer. Someone said in the shoutbox he’s been coached not to fair catch. I sure hope that’s not the case.

Close football games generally come down to 2 or 3 big plays. This one came down to one. The kid knows it better than any of us, so no point flaming him.

People forget that we have been told from the word go with football that when you are starting out, you are going to have moments that look incredible. You are going to have moments that make you scratch your head. Today was a head scratcher. This group of seniors has far outperformed their expectations, and today they fell short of them. This one hurts, but still excited for the next two weeks. We owe UTSA and MTSU one.

Edit: Would like to add, that we (the fans) played no small part in this. Today should have been a sell out. There should have been 15,000 butts in seats. Those kids have given everything to this program, and we couldn’t show up for a meaningful game in November. I would also like to add that I was not there, as I have my own stuff going on (as I’m sure others do). I am frustrated with myself, but those kids deserved better from us. Have to think some noise would have helped on those third downs, and you are just more excited to play in general in front of a packed house.

Lambert should have a big bowl of Cheerios. Thats the only bowl he will see with that coordinator. That was Rice

Absolutely disgusting. I’m not sure what I’m most pissed about…

1. The crowd was absolute dog shit. Student side sucked, the alumni sucked. The stadium had zero energy. Terrible
2. Jeff Mullen is nothing short of a joke. His offense of game calling is atrocious.
3. Matt Johnson. He may be a wonderful kid and a phenomenal representative of this university, but the only way he should ever take a snap of quarterback again is if number 16 and number 2 are both in the locker room gravely injured. His Insertion into the game isn’t a necessary change of pace, it only serves to slow down the offense flow. If Jeff Mullins goal is to completely derail the success of a drive, keep putting Johnson in. Mindnumbing
4. The defense was awful today. Rice has approximately three plays on the offense of playbook, and we couldn’t figure it out the entire goddamn game.
5. Nate Mullen. I need say no more.
6. T.L. Ford. Two simply brutal drops… the first was forgiven because we scored a TD, the second was absolutely inexcusable. He dropped a touchdown pass. We promptly follow that drop up by inserting Matt Johnson for a no value play, followed up by an Austin Duke end around which is Fumbled with a huge loss on. We get no points when we should’ve had seven.

7. Klugh. He was victimized by too many drops, but he was not good today.
8. Last, but by no means least important. Brad Lambert. He’s the coach, he needs to manage how this team responds to adversity, 21–0 and we fall apart like a three dollar suit in the rain. That is 100% on his shoulders. With even adequate coaching, this team is 6-4 and currently sitting in the locker room celebrating locking up a bowl bid

I don’t see why anyone complains about attendance. This program’s home game performance has been horrible. It is like going back to again and again to an abusive spouse. Most people don’t go out of their way like me to watch our away games on some obscure video stream so the Niners at home are all they know.

 1. F*** the loser mentality of this entire program. Soccer, Hoops, Football, Chess, Basket weaving… it doesn’t matter what it is, we will choke. every. goddamn. time.

I left when we still had a sizable lead because I knew what was going to happen. And I was right. F*** everyone involved. Life is too short for this crap.

This was an embarrassment all the way around. What was the attendance-5.000? Jumped with both feet to 21-0, in the first quarter, and lose the game? We have one of the best running backs in the conference, 4,000 yard rusher, and the offensive coordinator keeps calling pass plays? The punt returner calls 3 fair catches with noone within 20 yards of him, then fails to with a defender about to clock him. The coaching staff needs to light a fire under some asses, or maybe they need one lit under them! The talent is there, but calling stupid plays is a waste. Do what got you the wins-run the football down their throat, and then break it up with a few passes, and run some screen passes, Klugh was getting creamed, why not call a screen here and there?! &%^%#$%@&#%^((!!!
Coaches-get it together!

I shouted this week that we’d lose by 17. Half joking, half dead serious. I figured we’d lose.

Bowl possible? .500 season possible?

Did you really think Elvis was still alive?

This program is diseased. It is a loser and worse, THEY DO NOT CARE.

clt says jimmy johns needs to lay off of the mayo on the free sandwiches.

This is kindly called ā€œPulling a Niner.ā€ And yes…we do it all the time in every sport. It is our tradition. We don’t have many traditions…but this is the one we own.

As a matter of fact…I do believe 3 out of the 4 teams playing this weekend ā€œPulled a Niner.ā€

The basketball team tried their hardest to make it 4 for 4 but somehow went on a 30-3 run to ruin it!

Can I get a current student on here to answer my question?

I was a little late getting into the stadium walking from silver lot. There was a mass Exodus of students walking the FROM their tailgating area back to god knows where.

Why are they leaving? Where are they going? Why aren’t they taking an extra 40 steps towards the stadium? Why do they get so done up to tailgate then go home? Wtf?!

We watched a bowl bid slip between our fingers after having a firm grip on it.

The first half, because of the bowl possibility, was perhaps the most enjoyable ever for 49er football. The 2nd half was in many ways the least enjoyable.

If the 2nd half today is indicative of the way we play our final 2 games, we finish with 4 wins.

Did our students and fans not know how important this game was?

Positive
Still bowl eligible

Kalif looks like he could make it to the league

Negative
Why did we call two back to back timeouts at the end once they were inside the 10 right before they scored their last TD? We didn’t do our offense or defense any favors by not giving them some timeouts on their final drive to score or to stop the clock to get the ball back at the end. If you want to call a timeout at the end, we should of did it when they were driving to give our defense a break, not once they get into scoring position.

DBs are suspect. All of the screens they threw and we couldn’t jump one? You worry about the big play, but the only big play they tried to make ended with defensive P.I. It was getting real predictable with Stehling at QB. (Why is it when Rice runs screen plays they work, but whenever we do it is really ugly.)

This team can not play with a lead. Seems like we get real comfortable once we go up in the game: FIU, FAU, and today.

Mullen’s fumble on the punt and Ford’s drop on a slant where he could have walked in the endzone hurt.
