Ron Sanchez Positive Thoughts Thread

Ron seems to keep himself in great shape!

Ron did not lose to Belmont Abbey this year and was wise enough not to schedule them.

Wasn’t the last Belmont Abbey game arranged at the last minute when a team on our schedule cancelled during the covid year?

Yeah it was a late Covid scheduled game that they counted as an exhibition we counted it as a legit game.

As someone that grew up in Belmont and live not far from the campus I still have to hear about that L regularly. It’s pretty depressing.

And as a reminder, Dusty May lost his very first game as FAU coach to D-II Lynn.

Nice to see that the usual haters are alive and well.

Sad that you can’t be objective but at least you have your hate. Good luck with that.

This thread is not filled with hate.

It’s filled with sarcasm and positive thoughts about Sanchez.

That’s a long way from hate.

Eh, idk. Has a better choice in barbers though for sure.

Was it 5 minutes?

I will give Ron the small improvements each year. It is hard to determine how much of the improvements was due to the soft schedule and depleted conference. We still lost too many dumb games and played lots of games closer than they needed to be (see CBI title game), but he managed to make some other games where we lost by the narrowest of margins. I can’t figure out were we actually worse than our record padded by poor OOC and close games we won, or were we better than our record and just got some bad breaks in close games?

All I know is I don’t have a choice but to pull for Ron going into next season. I don’t really think a rebuild should take 6 years, but if that’s what we go with I hope year 6 is the year. What I do know is I am beyond buying in just for the hell of it. After years behind the bench I got tired of watching Ron and spending that much money on tickets so I relocated back to 226 where I was for years. I will be back in 226 this year and I have very very little confidence, just hope. We have to go win some games we shouldn’t vs some good teams or good brands and win something of relevance for me to start getting confident. The slowness of all of this has used up any good will the fanbase had left, which wasn’t much.

Probably some of both. Definitely hurt having Aly out for the two games with Covid & probably recovering for a couple more after that. No excuse for UTSA game, but I’ve seen more than my share of those over the years, bymuch better teams than ours.

Ron will be back so my positive will come from him holding on to the core of this team, hitting the portal lottery and signing a big time 2G and a big time defensive specialist at the 5/ C that can develop an offensive game or signing a freshman 5/ C that can take over for Aly in the future since his offense demands it. I also want him to figure Milicic out and take his game to the next level. Last positive wish would be a hard look at his assistants and make sure we getting the best we can afford/ have.

Igor just needs to go to the big man camp that Aly went to last summer. Work on an inside, post up game and that way be able to slide inside and out. That way it would make him a harder matchup for defenses and make him more versatile in our offense.

It probably was a result of playing better talent in conference than in OOC, but igor seemed to regress from beginning of the season to the end.

Hopefully next year he will grow to be more consistent.

The difference is many of those better teams with WTF losses also managed to pick up WTF wins… that is where Ron hasn’t delivered at all and if we wanna make noise next year he has to start doing.

Did we win any games we weren’t favored to win?

Good question. I’m not sure

There was no one on our schedule that was a game we shouldn’t be able to win - regardless what the line was. There wasn’t even an opportunity for any type of statement game vs a top program or brand. Boise was the closest thing to it in OOC and FAU in conf - but neither of them are the type of games that makes the fanbase or general public or a selection committee take note.

Thats what I am saying - if Ron wants to make noise he has to win those games - not just a game where we were 4 point dogs.

We definitely were not favored to win UNT.
