Sad to watch...

I’m ready for the losing records, regardless of coach, to stop.
Really? You sure? 2002, we had been to 5 of the last 6 NCAA tourneys (only missing in 2000) and had 1st round wins in 3 of them. If you were “done with Bobby” then, that makes 1 of you.
2002 was Bobby’s 4th year. He had taken us to the tourney 3 of those 4 and had first round wins in 2 of those 3. We made the NIT in 2000.

If you wanted rid of him then yes you were in the minority but I dont think bringing Melvin’s two years into the argument is relevant.
You do realize Bobby was on staff since 95, right?..I’ll let it go at that.
Since I have never heard anyone say “we should fire the assistant coach” I would assume he was done with Bobby as HC…I’ll let it go at that.

Yeah. Title it “All Things Lutz” and sticky it so the rest of us can move on and anyone that wants to pine, wallow, bitch or what ever can do it there. Maybe an “All Things Judy” sticky would serve the same purpose. Thanks.

My comments didn’t imply that it wasn’t time for a change.

My point was that you want people to support the new coach. Bashing the old coach doesn’t seem to be the best way to go about that. You’re only feeding fuel to the fire IMO. That’s why I put “maybe that’s what you’re going for”.

And it does go both ways. I didn’t see the need for posting a video of the former coach, and saying sad to watch either.

People should also move on from posting this same statement constantly. It is NORMAL for current coaches to be compared to the previous coach for atleast a few years until he establishes his own identity.
Comparing coaches is one thing. Longing for the return of Bobby Lutz while remaining bitter over the coaching change is another.

I hope you’re not talking to me here------because despite what some here have labeled me, you won’t find one “bitter” post of mine, atleast not toward Major. I hope Major turns it around big time, I have too much money and years invested in this program to give it up.
I am not saying you’re bitter towards Major, I really have no idea how you feel about Major. What I do believe you and others are bitter about is that Bobby was fired and remain very sensitive over any criticism of Bobby. I am actually surprised you’re disputing that fact, but whatever works I guess. I think Bobby and Major have strengths and both are open to criticism.

I agree with the idea that you can think Bobby getting fired was the right decision and question if hiring Major was the right hire. If we don’t improve much next season I will question the hiring of Major even more and possibly join the camp that he wasn’t a good hire and should go. Rather Major fails or not doesn’t change my belief that it was time for Bobby to go and some need to move on from him.

I am glad to see some posters start emphasizing it’s ok to like or dislike both coaches. The 2 are not mutually exclusive.

QFT

I’m bitter.

About not getting to see India Lucas in that red sweater again.

I heart India Lucas.

Why is everyone so uptight about Bobby Lutz. He did some good things and did some bad things, but he represented the University he loved well. All you got to do is WIN and nobody will give a flip who the previous coach was. Would I like 19-12 back right now, HELL YEA. But just because someone is bitching about how terrible Major is doing doesn’t mean they want Lutz back. Everyone was ready to move on from Lutz, now lets F’ing win or move on from Major.

This post is pretty spot-on to me. I loved Bobby and celebrate him as a good person and proud that he was and is a part of the Niner family. I do, however, think it was time to move on and breathe some fresh air into the program. I’m not saying Major won’t work out, BUT if he doesn’t, it doesn’t mean moving on from Bobby was the wrong decision, it just means that we missed on the next coach. Again, I’m not saying that is the case- just IF it is the case, the decisions to let Bobby go and to hire Major should be looked at separately.

AGREED 100%!!

I was as big a Bobby fan as there was in Niner Nation. He was a great person and fantastic ambassador for the school. And those who judge Major based on some illusion of where they thought we were when Bobby was fired are deluding themselves.

It’s worth pointing out to those pining for the 19-10 of Bobby’s final year that with that 19-10 we were sitting exactly where we are now at this time. At home watching many other teams playing post season ball except us.

I was a huge Bobby fan throughout his tenure, as my first year as a student was also his first as head coach here. Hell I still have my Lutz bobblehead that they gave away at Halton once. That being said, for those pining for Bobby’s last year, might I remind you that his 19-12 campaign was highlighted by:

 1. Our win total inflated by a bakery full of OOC cupcakes
 • Yes I know our OOC scheds haven’t been all that tough since then either, but that season our “signature” OOC win was at a Louisville team that was missing 2 of its best players at the time. Basically the equivalent to Oral Roberts “signature” win vs Xavier this year while they had their suspensions from the brawl.
 1. Screaming into the house mike at Halton about how “THE NINERS ARE BACK!!!” after beating Temple and then promptly…

 2. Blowing 7 out our last 8 games en route to 19-12 and missing the Dance and NIT and…

 3. Forgetting how to count to 5 during our very uninspired 1 and done at Halton in the A10 tourney.

Yeah I don’t pine for another 19-12 like that. I’m happy for any future success that Bobby achieves, but after all that went down, along with being 5 years removed from the Dance. it was time for him to go. I really hope Major can turn things around in year 3. I have supported him throughout these rough 2 years. But as has been said by many, next year is make or break for him. We shall see.

AMEN!
…and yes, I think the previous post was DOBA as well. That is no reflection of how I felt about Bobby as a person and supporter of our program. It was just time to part ways and the win/loss record should not be used to discredit Major or to put Bobby on a pedestal, for the reasons noted by “scott.”
