“I don’t want to go anywhere else. If I get another offer, I wouldn’t go because Virginia Tech is where I want to be,” said Bowden. “I like Virginia Tech and they were the first school to recruit me”

“Who will pick up the scoring load next season when LeemireGoldwire has graduated? Here’s a good sign: Shamarr Bowden, a shooting guard for The Miller School in Charlottesville, Va., who has signed with the 49ers, scored 28 points – including nine 3-pointers – in a loss to Oak Hill this week.”
Wow. 9 3 pointers vs Oak Hill? If he can’t do anything else, at least we know the kid can shoot. Much like Lee, he needs to work on getting some diversity to his game as he only scored 1 free throw other than the 3’s, but at least it seems he will be able to take some pressure off of our outside shooting. Thats impressive for any level.

It may depend on what oak hill was doing on defense a bit, if they really packed it in a zone, that might explain both the low fouls drawn and the good outside shooting. The quote above mentions a "thunderous dunk", which is a good sign that he has athleticism to go with the shooting touch. He's also 6'3", which if that's close to legit, means he has 3-4 inches on Lee. He may need to add strength/muscle (160 lbs), which could limit his playing time (sure would be nice to redshirt him, but not sure we will be able to afford it). We also haven't heard what his defense is like. Even so, this guy may turn out to be quite the steal. :shades:
I’ve been looking at Bowden’s progress every now and then - and it looks like he has been upstaged recently by a 6’7" forward that’s been beastin’ it up: Marshawn Powell. Powell is a recent transfer to the Miller School and is ranked #7 at his position for 2009 (Karron Johnson is, of course, #1). He likes Clemson & Virginia - but I’m not sure if either has offered yet. Richmond is in the mix for him, too.
Thought it might be worth mentioning. I’m sure the coaches will continue to watch Bowden progress, so I figured they’ll be in contact with his teammates as well.
