SIU POSTGAME

  • Quality, quality W , SIU now 94-7 at home in last 7 years
  • Lutz calls the right play out of the timeout to win
  • Ian came off the bench to give us what we needed - thats his role
  • Phil & Anjuan - awesome games
  • Wilderness POTG. No doubt
  • Lamont Mack shooting that last 3 he took when proper ball movement would have swung the ball to red hot Ian in the corner was unforgivable and almost cost us the game.
  • The color guy said that too. And Who the hell was he? He was great.
-We own SIU - Mullins is a 5th year senior for SIU and I dont think he’s ever beaten us. We have their number.
  • We won a close game on the road. A miracle for us in any recent season
  • Go Niners

Phil’s gotta get more than 5 shots. 19 minutes, 5 shots, 7 points, 4 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 fouls. Unless he got those 2 fouls early it looks like he deserves more minutes. When you have a 6’10" center who is shooting over 80% from the FT line, you need to feed him the ball more.

DOBA. best post this thread will contain.

Mack, Phil did get those fouls early, but he still should get the ball more in the paint, period.

He just has to stay out of foul trouble. Our record may suck, but it’s a joy watching him develop.

The good:

Phil. Wow. He’s on track to have two more yrs too.
An’Juan. Way to step up today. Maybe the set plays will roll more to him.
Finally some other team’s fans can go into meltdown. http://salukitalk.net/st/viewtopic.php?t=24664&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=240
Ian’s offense. most three’s were when he was set, not running like crazy.

The Bad:

Mack. Yuck. Out of position. Doesn’t switch. Looks weak sometimes on rebounds. THREES.

Ian’s defense. boxing out and shadowing a hot shooter are definitely not going to exist.

The Ugly:

Dew. Looked better at the SF position. But he is completely lost at PG. Still think we would be better off having Mack bring it up the court. At least he could not shoot all of those threes and it would clear up the lane for a rebounder like Coleman.

Coleman getting hurt. Hope it was very minor. Harris and Ian would be all that is left back there.

Mack seems to get worse every game. He should be taking 2-3 shots per game at most. Bench all the way.

have heard Lutz say several times that Phil can give at most 25 min/game. Assuming conditioning is the reason

That makes more sense as far as the minutes he played, but does look like he needs more touches, him and Wilderness need to be the centerpieices of this team offensively.

Yes and yes. When Phil gets the ball underneath, he’s unstoppable…made a couple of passes out of double teams to wide open players under the basket. When Iso’d, his hook is great.

Fair enough, I still think he needs to get more shots, he’s going to continue to get hacked and is one of our best FT shooters (and he’s actually good, not just “best” as in a relative term which most years would mean shooting 70%).
you forgot to mention setting piss poor screens. that 3 he took was stupid and was almost very costly too.

Lutz post game pretty much echoing this stuff - the last playw as for wilderness with shooters as 2nd option if help came after Wilderness. Phil needs more offense, but Lutz echoe’d what I said in chat - he fades away on his hook when he’s tired which he did in the 2nd half.

Bobby mentioned one shot that Lamont took which he didn’t approve of - I think we know which one that was. Bobby sounds like he’s trying to get Lamont to buy in and be patient and things will work out for him.

Lutz said Coleman is fine and maybe even could have played.

Thanks NA for the info. hopefully there is more than one of Mack’s shots he did not approve of. Mack should not have to buy-in. If he’s not sold on a system that he should not shoot as much, he doesn’t need to be in the rotation

Lutz pretty much said that Lamont is trying to do too much. Needs to not force things and he’s fine.

Hasn't he already said that? Because the only thing Mack is doing is hurting the team. We'd be much better off right now if all he did the entire game was pass it around on offense (or better yet, sit on the bench).

He said all of Macks 3s were good today except maybe 1 (I think we know which one that was).
- SIU now 94-7 at home in last 7 years
and 2 of those losses are to the niners. or is it 3?

2, 29% of their losses haha

I mean, 1/3 through your senior season is not where you’re supposed to be struggling doing too much…
