St Joe's Postgame

What a strange season - Only conf wins are against the top team and the worst team. And a 8 game losing streak to finish out the season. Woo Hoo!

Glad Major got his way - to bad the paying fans didn’t.

Today was a mercy killing. Our season needed to be done.

Looking forward to next year to see how we improve.

[color=green]I disagree. Our season should have continued–we def. should’ve won that game. Foul at the end was phantom, and we just didn’t try hard enough and bad defense. But, I do feel we should significantly improve next year–my hopes aren’t too high tho, w/ 5 new Freshmen.

St Joe’s shot lights out in the 2nd half. I thought we were going to lose when Briscoe didn’t play the 1st half. He did play after awhile and gave us a boost in the 2nd.

Both the players and Major have alot of work to do in the off season. He made a mistake at the end of the game trying to press St Joe’s quick guards with no big men back to guard the rim. To be fair, though, we were lucky to even tie it with Derrio’s shot.

Tough season. Glad its over. Major’s next job is to keep are important players from leaving, recruit another big man, and integrate the recruits. I hope to see alot of improvement next year. From everyone.

What a fitting way for us to end the season than with a 1 point loss. And what is up with the Niner Network broadcasts of the basketball games. The camera was malfunctioning at the end, the basket camera was showing sleep mode or some crap when they cut to it, they cutoff the halftime interview with Coach Lambert, and please learn how to use the replay function or just leave it alone.

SJU killed us from 3. When you have 4 different players hitting from that range, it’s hard to defend all of them. No way they made those all season, or their record wouldn’t be so similar to ours.

Galloway is nasty. Hopefully with the size we have coming in at guard we will have someone that can put the clamps on him.

SJU had 8 blocked shots. 8!!!

We only had 6 turnovers today. That’s the fewest total I remember from this season.

Good luck to Anjuan and Dew in their future ventures in life.

Thank you seniors! Best of luck, and don’t be a stranger.

Thanks An and Dew. I appreciate your guts and drive in the face of much adversity during your careers here.
We were just out of steam and I’m relieved the season is over.
Positively looking forward to next year and supporting our coach and team. We WILL be better.
GO NINERS!!

I’m glad it’s finally over. Good luck to Dew and Anjuan. I just hate both of you had to wrap up your college career this way. I also hate Phil had to sit out his freshman year while paying his own way, only to finish by being ineligible.

If it’s any consolation, St Joes won 4 out of their last 8 games.

Good luck to anjuan and charles. Not the career I wanted for either of these guys. They fought hard til the end though.

This hevaily depeleted team is so frustrating to watch. I love the effort that Deuce gave, but damnit he’s 5’9 and I think I am ready for a change from all the tiny backcourts we have had for a decade or more now, and how little we typically get from them defensively (Deuce does play hard).

Derrio is indicative of that. He drives me crazy to watch play. He totally gets abused on defense far too often, and let’s face it, he pulled that game tying shot out of his ass. Too many times this season, the offense stopped when the ball got in his hands. Yet he is also one of the few guys who will shoot the damn ball. I challenge him to improve his play (e.g. stop leaving your feet as a passer, especially on the baseline), and I hope that he can find a consistent role on this team and excel in it.

Braswell - also maddening to watch play. He works hard on the offensive end, and does get hacked a ton, but too often he just throws the ball up hoping to draw a whistle. His “shots” in those situations have no chance of going in. On defense, we ask a lot of him since our guards are easily passed over and too often beaten easily off the dribble. My challenge to Chris is to become a complete player this offseason. Work on his finishing moves with an eye towards being able to score even when he gets hacked. Stop looking for the bailout and score the ball. The FT should be gravy, not the answer. On defense, improve conditioning, positioning, footwork, boxing out, and timing. Bras can still be an All conference caliber player by the time he leaves but he needs to work on his game.

KJ and Javarris improved this year and both need to keep working.

My thoughts driving home today were that after a season like this, all 5 starting jobs should be up for grabs, with 6 new guys and hopefully a meaningful 7th, and not just a warm body (though its probably wishful thinking). We need some serious changes to get back to winning. After a season full of it, I am tired of watching our zone knowing that we couldnt really play man to man most nights. I want to see a team that plays defense with an eye to making life a living hell for the other team, every night, regardless of the opponent. I doubt that happens next year, but I’d like to see some progress.

I want to see what the new guards can do. Maybe they are not the answer, but more options cannot be a bad thing.

I think Major is going to have a serious challenge next year, with 9 guys who can play the 1-3. Finding the right mix at those positions is going to be the biggest question early, along with establishing our offensive an defensive identities.

Also, the question of what to do with that last scholarship will be interesting.

My challenge to the whole team for next year is: flip the record. I’m not going to go soft with a prediction of 14 wins or something like that. I want to see these guys completely reverse fortunes from this season. 20 wins. That’s the goal.

I really think 4 of them are wide open. Braswell is probably the only player assured of a starting spot as of now. I believe JB will start at the 3, but he’s going to get some competition for sure. KJ will get lots of PT. Him starting or not will just depend on how we set our lineup.

Indeed. If the talent is there though, it’s a good problem to have.

If that player is not a post player he better be at least 6’9". I can’t take much more of getting blocked 8 times per game.

Is it too soon to start saying “we always have a guy that has a career night against us”? Sound familiar?

Special thanks to Dew for coming back as a grad student, and getting injured again for most of the season. That’s a heck of a lot of work for not much PT. Thank you for all your hard work and commitment.

Fitting end to this season, tie the game on a wild shot, lose by one thanks to an iffy foul call (it probably was a foul, but those are rarely called against the home team at the end of the game) and an odd decision on the last heave. Were we out of timeouts?

Hate to see Wilderness and Dewhurst end like that, both of them have persevered through a number of injuries and were great contributors to our teams. I enjoyed watching them play.

Briscoe didn’t look healthy to me. His offense provided a spark, but his man was driving at will on him on defense, it looked like he was having trouble moving laterally.

Braswell will have to figure out how to handle double teams, though hopefully he doesn’t face as many next year (we’ll see).

Now we can begin the speculation of what next year will bring. It’s pretty wide open (from very very bad to pretty good).

They actually shot MORE “lights out” in the first half.

Yes. We used our last timeout without about a minute to go.

Good luck to Anjuan and Dew.

I’d like to know how you aren’t healthy enough to play the first half but are well enough to play in the second half. Did Major bring in Benny Hinn at half-time?

I think/hope we’ve hit rock bottom. I like some things I’ve seen out of Major. He’ll be fine if he can recruit. Hopefully every minute at every position is up for grabs next year.

Have you never heard the term “miraculous recovery”?

They were saving him for the tourney, but when the tourney looked in doubt…well you know the rest.
