What one thing could UNC Charlotte do to better serve you in the future?
tied for 2nd highest at 17%, Add football

LoL Read the student verbatums.

What do think of when you hear Charlotte

“No football”

“UNC system stepchild”

LoL

as much as i expected most of those results, they really kinda hurt

i’m glad many of you are trying to do something to improve this in one way or another, football for example.
For some time now, UNC Charlotte has been overshadowed in the university system, current students even alluded to the fact that many get Charlotte mixed up with the Chapel Hill campus
Perhaps even Stamats is saying a name change would be nice, without exactly stating it?

Here’s some good ones from the Employee verbatim responses:

•“Suitcase school with no football.”
•“It should be called University of Charlotte.”

greatest weaknesses:
•“The name…it sounds like a satellite or branch campus.”

•“No football means in a lot of ways no school sprit.”

 •“The invisible university.”

I like this one, too:

Study of Business Leaders - UNC Charlotte
http://groups.google.com/group/49erSGA/web/UNC%20Charlotte%20Business%20Leaders%20Results.ppt

Demographics

2 chairman/CEO, 2 presidents, 4 vice presidents, 3 directors, 2 attorneys, 1 manager, 1 representative, 8 unknown

What could UNC Charlotte do to better serve you in the future?

“Very little, it’s 100+ miles from me, others are closer” (Where exactly were they looking for area business leaders?)

UNC Charlotte’s Greatest Weaknesses - verbatim responses

“Doesn’t connect to the city, they don’t promote themselves enough.”
“Doesn’t promote its positive reputation; seems to complain that it’s not recognized instead of telling its own story.”
“Image: part of UNC Chapel Hill, and no football program.”
“It’s on Chapel Hill.”
“Lack of community support.”
“Lack of doctorate program.”
“Lack of visibility.”
“Location, not close enough to larger areas.”
“Needs to become more involved with Charlotte community.”
“Not enough support from the legislature.”
“Not having football.”
“Not well known in Charlotte-hidden gem. Location may be a fact in that lack of awareness.”
“Perceived as somewhat of a community or regional college.”
“Perception.”
“Still seen as a local college.”

Conclusions

"The majority of business leaders surveyed have a high level of familiarity with UNC Charlotte.

Conclusion: Everyone on the planet knows that a name change (and football) is necessary but the university doesn’t want to hear it and Stamats doesn’t want to say it.

Stamats won’t say it directly, but they are letting the respondents say it over and over again. I like how in each of the presentations, they use verbatim responses about the name/name confusion and football.

Where 49orBust when you need him, this is his territory.

well… the way i see it football is already being persued heavily by the students, and bust and i are beginning the organization of some sort of name change ordeal, so maybe we’ll see some change. surveys like this can only help in backing our feelings about the situations at hand.

Perhaps Dubois will ‘read between the lines’ and find some reason why the name confusion is really ‘supported’ by the respondents, instead of what they actually said.

Football responses are good and will help push getting a program along.

Essentially, the University has just spent 250K to get a nice presentation on what we could have already told them: Football and name change. This was such an obvious waste of money that it is histerical.

The good news is that it will be kind of difficult for the University to spend close to 400K (250K stamats, 150K mac everett and gang) on the positive benefits of football and decide not to do it.

THe bad news is, Dubois will do absolutely nothing towards the name change.

I wish I could disagree with you on the name change, but your right.:pout:

It’s true that they probably didn’t learn anything new, but they did just get some good official looking documents which say what we all knew, and that is something they didn’t really have before. If all this stuff is as political as it seems, then they probably had to spend that 250K and get this study done so that they could put some clout behind their arguments when talking to each other, the BoG, and so on. Think that could be it?

This is almost the exact same situation we had with football. He will do nothing, but if we unite the students and alumni and make a big enough stink about it, we may finally be free of our slave name.

This will lead to a major marketing/PR campaign for the University and hopefully also a football team. The name won’t be changed, but UNC CHARLOTTE (not UNCC or UNCCharlotte) and all the great things it has to offer will be marketed and promoted throughout Charlotte and the state. This is just the beginning. Studies like this justify spending, including getting some state system money to help our cause.

Maybe the business leader thought he was filling out a survey for UNC Chapel Hill.

clt says that even if dubois wants to change the name ( and he might), a public organization needs to spend money on surveys before doing such things. it is stupid and wasteful, but it is the way it happens.

Yeah, gov’t. organizations don’t take a crap without doing a study about it first. Some things seem obvious, but they have to have data & quantifiable results/proof to point to if someone wants to argue.

Sort of funny to me that the university explicitly stated “no name change” suggestions in their “framing” of the study, but they still got plenty of quotes back related to it. Go Stamats, go students, go alumni.

Now, the chancellor and the rest of the administration at the university know what the main issues facing us are:

 1. Football
 2. Name change/Identity crisis
 3. Funding/Legislature issues

So, let’s see what they do to fix these issues.

I can’t believe these results are posted in such a public forum. If Dubois knew NNN was looking at all this before it went public (with his spin) to the media, he would have a fit.

Ten bucks says that one of his pissed off errand boys (cumstock) is releasing this stuff to advance his career.

Or maybe his secretary. Or his wife, I get the feeling she is sympathetic to our cause.
