Starting lineup in 2012/13

I’m really bored and there’s like a freakin month til the Coppin State game, so I figured this would be a fun topic to discuss.

It’s a hell of a long ways off, but who do you think starts next year?

Spots 1, 3, and 5 seem to be locks with Pierria, Demario, and Braz. SG and PF are up for grabs.

I’m thinking we will see

pg - Pierria
sg - Lester
sf - Demario
pf - Clayton
c - Braz

I’d like to see Deuce start at SG, but I have the feeling it will be Lester.

I don’t think any of our current players or fans will be around in 18,000 years to find out.

lol my bad. Nice catch.

no way e vic starts at the power forward. i think the starting lineup is.
pg henry
sg lester
sf mayfield
pf clayton
c braswell

or it could be
pg henry
sg mayfield
sf nickerson
pf clayton
c braswell

Yeah the more I think about it the more I agree with you. We will have KJ, Willie and Darion who are all true PF’s. EVic is definitely a sf.

Williams might be our starting SG by the time this season is finished. I think the kid will be fine once he learns the offensive sets, defensive assigenments and what Major expects from him in general.

Damn I totally forgot about T-Will! You may be right. He doesn’t seem to be much of a shooter but damn he is fearless and a freak of an athlete.

It could be a lot of combinations honestly.

At SG it could be Mayfield of Briscoe (just don’t see it being Lester)
At SF it could be Nickerson, Mayfield, or Terrence Williams (a lot of season left, he could outplay Nickerson, who knows)
At PF it could be KJ or Clayton. With more post depth, there is no reason we can’t/won’t play KJ and Bras at the same time.

I think only the 1 and the 5 are set in stone, but Henry, Mayfield, and Bras are definitely guaranteed starters.

Yeah I agree I like

Henry
Williams
Mayfield
Clayton
Bras

With EVN, Deuce, Luka, KJ, and Thorne coming off the bench… I like it!

How many college basketball teams start a 5-8 SG?

I think Deuce is relegated to “off-the-bench” status.Major is just not going to start a small Guard.I hope ther’s an open competition for the 2 and 3 as I think EVic and Williams could improve a LOT this year and challenge Mayfield for starters minutes…Amazing how much an excellent game(2nd half, really) can explode our optimism…mine included

Probably seriously jinxing ourselves to do this at this point, but…
For starting, I’d say:
pg: Henry
sg: Briscoe
sf: Mayfield
pf: Sherrill
C/pf: Braswell

Even with Henry’s starting from beginning this season, I just don’t think a freshman is likely to come in and take over the starting spot next year based on what I’ve seen so far. But I wouldn’t assume anyone has a position “nailed down”, because Major has clearly shown he’ll play the new guys if they perform. I could see shifting Mayfield to sg and Briscoe off the bench to start Nickerson, but I’m not sure that’s the best team to put out there. Need some outside shooting at either sg or sf, if Henry is busy at pg. Mayfield and Nickerson have been inconsistent from 3, but check out Henry (46%) though shooting at a low rate. That all could change by next year of course.

Assuming no one transfers (big if with this kind of depth and Niner history):
Depth chart:
pg: Henry, Voncina, Briscoe
sg: Briscoe, Williams, Lester
sf: Mayfield, Nickerson, Williams
pf: Sherrill, Clayton, Clark
C: Braswell, Thorne, Ivankovic

That is some awesomely even depth by the way. Really like how the classes have been filling out last two years. Need a center and a pg next year?

I can’t bring myself to count on the new guys until I see them play.

PG Henry
SG Williams
SF Mayfield
PF Nickerson
C Braswell
KJ, Briscoe, Voncina 1st 3 off the bench

PG - Henry
SG - Mayfield
SF - Nickerson
PF - Clayton
C - Braswell

First 4 off bench
KJ, Deuce, Lester, Luka

I think you’re underrating Lester as an immediate impact scorer and Clayton as an immediate impact rebounder.

I tend to err on the side of caution with freshmen and am optimistic about how much current players will develop. I’m also hoping that Sherrill gets to avoid playing center next year, and that any nagging injuries go away. If he got to play alongside Braswell more, I think he’d be doing better this year.

I could see this^^ But I imagine KJ will start over Clayton, at least initially. I also foresee many minutes by Twill mostly at the 3 spot. I can’t imagine Thorne getting more than 15 min/game, but who knows. Lester will probably get the same treatment Twill is getting this year (5-8 min/game) with Mayfield, and Briscoe ahead of him.

I think Briscoe and KJ transfer, go DII get a degree and enjoy there senior year playing for a coach that welcomes their skill set.

Henry
Lester
Mayfield
Clayton
Braz

Richmond … Cedric Lindsey pg, Kendall Anthony SG (5’8 165 Leading Scorer)

Very interested to see how our BIG guards fair against those two.

I could see Briscoe leaving, but do not think Sherrill will leave. I think he likes playing close to home and he does get 10-15 minutes per game.
