Starting lineup in 2012/13

I think Briscoe and KJ transfer, go DII get a degree and enjoy there senior year playing for a coach that welcomes their skill set.

Henry
Lester
Mayfield
Clayton
Braz
That’d be disappointing.

Richmond … Cedric Lindsey pg, Kendall Anthony SG (5’8 165 Leading Scorer)

Very interested to see how our BIG guards fair against those two.
FWIW, Anthony doesn’t start.

You’re still on that crap?

But he plays 25+ min and Richmond is not afraid to play small guards at both positions is my point.

KJ is given very little opportunity now on a team with limited post players.

I think his window is going to be even smaller with Clark and Clayton coming to the fold.

There are alot of schools in the N.C. area where KJ could play at least 25+ min which is something that he has been working towards for 3 yrs.

Playing 10-13 min for a NCAA caliber team your senior year is one thing. Playing 10-13 min your senior year for a team that is looking to rebuild with self recruited freshman is not something IMO that KJ is going to be excited about.

Trevin Parks is a perfect example of a very good player who did not fit Majors mold, left and now is having a brilliant career( All American candidate) at the DII level.

I’m sure Briscoe and KJ have more than noticed Trevin’s transition being that they are friends and have been teammates

Often the important thing is not where you play but where you’ll have the opportunity to play.

Especially your SENIOR YEAR.

TRUE

KJ is given very little opportunity now on a team with limited post players.

Anyone might leave, who knows…Are we supposed to be rebuilding next year? I don’t know that we aren’t an NCAA caliber team next year, have to see how it plays out, we certainly have alot coming back.

As for KJ, Briscoe, etc. I’d like to think they like it here and would like to stay and play for a winner and help us get to the NCAA’s. Junior year isnt a good year to transfer either, usually it happens as a frosh or soph. But, like I said…who knows?

Since Briscoe has already transferred once and sat out a year…I don’t believe he can transfer again unless it is to Div II…which I don’t think we wants to do.

KJ just isn’t offensively talented. He can help this team and many more by being a physical defensive presence and rebounding. But I don’t think he goes anywhere else and becomes a major contributor, again…unless it’s Div II.

The reason KJ doesn’t play much is BECAUSE we have limited # of post players. We can’t have one of them foul out or we are in trouble.

Sorry this is bolded, I can’t seem to fix it.

It’d be very disappointing to have either one of those guys leave, but if they don’t want to be here, I’d prefer them to move along. You can be a valuable component of a winning team, even if coming off the bench.

LOL, Trevin Parks? He didn’t even play under the guy that recruited him.

KJ is a strange case that I just can’t figure out.

Towards the end of last season I thought he was settling in and starting to play real well. I thought it would be a good spring board into this year but whether due to lingering injuries or some other factor he just hasn’t provided much in the time he has been given this season. I think both he and Deuce could be important pieces to a good team next year but if they think there is a better opportunity for them out there it would be hard to fault them for moving on.

Totally agree. KJ has just about been the biggest disapointment to me this season. With Clayton and Clark coming in next season, and with Thorne expected to see some time, I think Sherill’s minutes will be limited next season.

I’ll go with this for now:

PG: Henry (the man)
SG: Lester
SF: Mayfield
PF: Clayton
C: Braswell

Obvisously you are starting two freshmen there. I think Clayton will slot it nicely next to Braswell and Lester could take a year to get accustomed to things. My only worry with starting Henry, Mayfield and Nickerson would be the lack of outside shooting. But yeah, the way Green is struggling to shoot the ball this year, their wouldn’t be much drop off.

Either way, I think Clayton holds the key going forward. If he can be another Withers/Braswell type of post player with all the young guards we have, multiple NCAA trips could be coming. I’ve been a die hard fan for 7 odd years now and I want to see us win a tournament game

1: Henry >> Voncina
2: Mayfield >> Briscoe >> Lester >> Lewis
3: Nickerson >> Williams >> Bradbury
4: Sherrill >> Clayton >> Clark
5: Braswell >> Thorne >> Ivankovic

Henry, Mayfield and Braswell are the easy choices, as they are starting now. I think Mayfield moves to the 2 since we will have the depth to go bigger at the 4. I have Nickerson at the 3 only because of his length right now, and the face that he comes in games before Williams at this point. Sherrill gets the nod over Clayton and Clark because freshmen don’t usually start ahead of seniors. I think playing with Braswell opens things up for KJ, but since we’re (apparently) red-shirting Thorne and Ivankovic is just 5-fouls he doesn’t get the chance to.

PG - Henry
SG - Mayfield
SF - EVN
PF - KJ
C -Braz

Deuce first sub off bench.

They do start if those freshmen are good and the senior is not

We beat Tennessee, Georgia Tech, East Carolina, a much better Wright St team, took a Coastal Carolina team (that was better than any team we have played thus far) to double overtime and went on a 4 game winning streak OOC last year with Deuce and Derrio at the guard spots.

This year we are 6-2 but only Davidson is a win that we can really take solace in.

There are alot of prognosticators here but to be honest we dont really know how Deuce and Derrio would have performed this year given the help this team has now.

I think its safe to say just the addition of Mayfield, E. Vic would have made a difference in W’s and L’s .

P. Henry is proving he deserves the bulk of the minutes at the PG spot.I would like to see what Briscoe, Green could do together especially when Henry is in early foul trouble or needs a rest.

Major has yet to experiment with that combination as force feeding of Luka has created a 4 guard rotation. Which in my opinion takes two of your better and most explosive guards off the floor for 15 to 16 min. This could be costly against upper level competition.

After Coppin State the true measure of Major and this team will be exposed. If we go 7-5 OOC as opposed to 8-6 OOC last year, I cant say that splitting the backcourt minutes 4 ways instead of 3 is beneficial for this team. I will also have to re-evaluate my expectation of us finishing in the top 8 of the A-10.

Miami is very beatable in Halton. I expect us to win this game.

not to get off topic but we had better not overlook coppin state. they are probably better than nccu and played uconn and illinois tough. they are really athletic and can shoot the three.
