Starting lineup in 2012/13

I agree ninerfan55 Coppin is not going to be a pushover. But if we cant beat them in Halton, at this stage of the season then our progress and direction has to be seriously questioned.

I would like to think we are at a place where we will beat teams that we should beat.

Been a Niner fan long??

We have had issues with losing to teams we should beat… during the early, mid and late parts of the season for the better part of the last 25 yrs.

This may be a good time to reference the 10 Commandments of Niner basketball.

No offense to KJ, I love him as a player, but he’s done being a starter with the talent that Major is bringing in. He’ll be a very good bench player next year. If KJ starts, we’re not going in the right direction. He might start in certain situations if we are playing a team with gigantic guys, but he won’t be a main starter next year.
P. Henry is proving he deserves the bulk of the minutes at the PG spot.I would like to see what Briscoe, Green could do together especially when Henry is in early foul trouble or needs a rest.

Major has yet to experiment with that combination as force feeding of Luka has created a 4 guard rotation. Which in my opinion takes two of your better and most explosive guards off the floor for 15 to 16 min. This could be costly against upper level competition.
I think it’s already slowly happening.

Check out the minutes avg chart on the right hand side of the page.

I’m going to be optimistic with Thorne and say he is progressing at the same rate as the other freshmen. If that is the case then this would be a very formidable lineup. Braswell would then go to center when Clayton is brought in to the game, but I’m showing Clayton as backup center because Ivankovic never sees the court.

1: Henry >> Briscoe>> Voncina
2: Mayfield >> Lester >> Lewis
3: Nickerson >> Williams >> Bradbury
4: Braswell>> Sherrill >> Clark
5: Thorne >> Clayton>>Ivankovic

$10 says Clayton starts over Thorne. You don’t go from playing no minutes in your freshman season to starting as a sophmore, doesn’t work like that. If Thorne improves like we think he will, he could maybe start as a junior. Remember took Phil Jones like three and a bit years to develop.
We beat Tennessee, Georgia Tech, East Carolina, a much better Wright St team, took a Coastal Carolina team (that was better than any team we have played thus far) to double overtime and went on a 4 game winning streak OOC last year with Deuce and Derrio at the guard spots.

This year we are 6-2 but only Davidson is a win that we can really take solace in.

There are alot of prognosticators here but to be honest we dont really know how Deuce and Derrio would have performed this year given the help this team has now.

I think its safe to say just the addition of Mayfield, E. Vic would have made a difference in W’s and L’s .

After Coppin State the true measure of Major and this team will be exposed. If we go 7-5 OOC as opposed to 8-6 OOC last year, I cant say that splitting the backcourt minutes 4 ways instead of 3 is beneficial for this team. I will also have to re-evaluate my expectation of us finishing in the top 8 of the A-10.

Miami is very beatable in Halton. I expect us to win this game.
Why would you want Green and Briscoe on the floor at the same time?

Can’t stop a nosebleed and are turnover machines if the ballhandling falls exclusively to them. Thank goodness Henry is the real deal. 'Bout time we had a toughnosed guard that wants to do more than dominate the ball on the offensive end of the court.
PG - Henry
SG - Mayfield
SF - EVN
PF - KJ
C -Braz

Deuce first sub off bench.
I think this is the best prediction so far. Though, if Clayton is ready I could see him taking that starting PF spot. Either way, this line up is a Size King-special, and will set the tone defensively for the first 3-4 minutes and then bring in Briscoe off the bench for a scoring punch.

As the year’s progressed, though, we’ve seen Deuce handle the ball at point, and he’s getting better, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he became de facto PG #2 as well.

Williams… does Major like him as a SF or a SG?

I expect KJ to get better as this season progresses. Needs confidence.

My 2012/13 lineup

PG: BAMF
SG: BAMF #2
SF: BAMF #3
PF: BAMF #4
C: BAMF#5

Bench: Some more BAMFs.

This.

I think he’ll play 2/3. We’re using a 3 guard line up with the wings doing a lot of the same thing, so we have essentially two off guards.

I think Henry, Mayfield and Brawell are locks to start. EVic, Deuce, and Clayton are probably battling for the next 2 spots.

I’m not sure Sherrill is going to start or that he deserves to start honestly. I really like his hustle and he certainly has gotten better as the season has progressed, but if he were ready to be a starter, he would start now. Our line up would be Henry, Mayfield, JB, KJ and Bras. I think Thorne is probably still going to be a year away from seeing real minutes.

But, all of this is very encouraging. The fact that we’ve got so many guys competing for spots is a huge improvement over where we have been.

So, what I think we will start:

Henry, Deuce, Mayfield, Clayton, Bras.

Next five (as we know major is prone to do):

Luka, Lester, TWill, Evic, KJ.

Thorne, Ivankovic play as foul trouble dictates and Clark may get redshirted. We have 4 scholarships opening up off that team, hopefully we’ll be able to land a legit big.

sokool: Remind me the reason Deuce Briscoe gave for transferring out of NCCU and into Charlotte.

If Deuce is considering transferring, why wait til end of year? He’ll lose a semester of great stats at Shaw or JCSU.

We also lost 20 games last year with Deuce and Derrio at the guard spots as well.

I haven’t seen any of next year’s class play…With that said,i’d be surprised if a guy coming from Oak Hill(which is like a D-1 program) would be redshirted.

Yeah he’s getting starter minutes for the number one team in the nation, and putting up ridiculous rebounding numbers. No way in hell he gets redshirted.

Bobby Lutz and a system that utilizes small guards who have great offensive skills.

That’s not the answer he gave.

EDIT: I do just want Briscoe to be happy. I like him, like his game and I hope he stays. I think if he does stay we could be a tournament team next season.

Deuce and Derrio had to play 30 min with a 7 man roster, and their best player kicked off the team have you forgotten that part of the equation.

How many games would Henry and Luka win without Braz, Mayfield, and E. Victor.

Henry has Deuce and Derrio to go to. Deuce and Derrio had a walkon to go to … lets be serious ::slight_smile:

We just might lose 20 games this year with Henry and Luka and Mayfield.

The jury is still out on this team. Dont get to cocky my friend.

And if we do finish with 18 or 20 losses does that mean the next year we should bring Henry off the bench and start over. CMON MAN
