State of Charlotte Flag

One thing you have to remember: Text will only look right on one side, the other side of the flag will look like a mirrored image.

I’ve started to send in for quotes, using the saltire with the gold trim. Once I start to get a good idea as to how much it will cost, I’ll pass that info on.
Can’t you just flip it horizontally to resolve that problem?
Not sure what you mean…

The flags are printed using ink that penetrates all the way through the fabric, causing the design to be the exact same on each side. Getting a flag made so that ā€œNINER NATIONā€ or ā€œSTATE OF CHARLOTTEā€ or whatever text we were to decide on would actually read correctly on both sides would be very expensive, and supposedly too stiff/heavy to fly properly.

Only way to do what you want is to basically have two flags that are sewn back to back.

I see what you’re talking about now.

Yeah that’s true but even if the text is backwards on the other side, many flags have that same ā€œproblemā€ if that’s what you want to call it.

It’s not really an issue, it’s just how flags work.

That’s why the best flags avoid text.

Well, then since I can’t deflect the issue, it comes to the designer putting his foot down: If it doesn’t say ā€œState of Charlotteā€ it’s not saying anything.

Yup, I’m being that guy now.

Think of it this way: Without the text, it can stand for whatever you want it to stand for.

Sounds good to me. Just the ā€œcrossā€ with the gold trimming and the seal?

Awesome.

Hey Lew - where are we on the flag? Need any help?

Have you considered adding an ATM. To it?

Noticed a Chelsea Flag that did something like this. I dont have any editing tools so this is best I could do with paint. Just a thought…

Putting together an ā€˜interest poll’ as we speak. I got all of the quotes back, and they’re unfortunately far from exciting.

That’d be great, thaaanks.
This isn’t anything official, but I’m pretty sure it’s close. There might be something about it in Sanford’s book, but it’s too late to get up and look.

top part: Kennedy entrance, first building on campus
back-to-back Cs: Charlotte College
pinecone: Bonnie Cone, of course
I always saw that and wondered if that’s what it was.

Figured as much.

The most obvious aspect of it, I never put that together. Thanks for clarifying.

Three things (just some random but sort of related thoughts):

 • I wish we had a motto.
 • I wish our caps and gowns were hunter green (no excuses for this really, the price different has to be minimal, but why form traditions and pride in your colors you know? That’s dumb).
 • Why don’t we have a graduation speaker ever? Charlotte is a big place, I’m sure we can find prominent members of society to talk to our graduating classes every year. I find the little speal by CHP about why we don’t have one during the graduation ceremony kind of pathetic in all honesty.
This!!! I have wanted us to have green caps and gowns since I was in school and realized we didn’t.

This is one area I’m OK not displaying the school colors. It seems very high school-ish to me. Black cap and gown are a college tradition. If its good enough for Harvard its good enough.

Why not stripes? It actually would be a connection to the U.

BTW, made this with powerpoint so excuse the terrible quality. Thought about putting some gold in there, but it never looked right.

It had a connection to the U, and to the city. You were the one that was so against it.

All I’ve done is share some things that vexillologists recommend about flag design. http://www.nava.org/ http://www.nava.org/sites/default/files/documents/flag-design/GFBF_Final_Web.pdf

I’m not against the bars, as some are. Just playing around with my own design.

Gosh, so defensive.

Sorry, I should have used some type of sarcasm tag. Or worded it better. Or something.

My bad.

I offered 60$ for the cross flag. If you want to put a seal in the middle and it does not say University of Charlotte and no reference to anything north carolina then count me out,my sister out and my folks.-Lake49er

Oh yea, and my bro-in law who is also a psl holder as we all are. He will be out also. So Six flags ā€œgone with the windā€ -No pun intended.-Lake 49er
