I got into robo-brokering lately. I started a wealthfront account last week to diversify in mutual funds at an extremely low cost.
There are other companies that do the same thing, Betterment is another big one. CS is coming out with one as well.
There are benefits to each company. So far happy with wealthfront. If anyone would like an invite so they get an additional $5000 managed for free, PM me.
I have never heard of this, could you explain a little bit to some of us dumb people what this is?
You answer a few questions that help breakdown your appetite (age, salary, savings, risk tolerance, etc.). You then get a strategy by the company of different funds (i’m 35% US stocks, 25% foreign developed markets, 25% emerging, then some in bonds, dividend funds, commodities). This is all based on ETFs, mostly vanguard funds through wealthfront.
I had an initial deposit, and then you can add more weekly, bi weekly, monthly, or another one time. You can change your strategy monthly. If say US stocks outpace other funds, they’ll rebalance (not sure what the break point is).
There are no commissions or trade fees. ETFs have very small fees. The service has a very small fee as well.
They have an IRA setup as well, but I’m doing this in a taxable fund. It’s very much a set it and forget it deal. I’ve done large company stocks similar, but this allows me to diversify.
